As Yuta snapped his fingers, he fell.
Immediately, a barrier was erected. The barrier separated the inside and outside into two distinct spaces, ensuring that any battle within and bursts of spiritual pressure would remain unnoticed by the outside world.
Ishida Uryū was startled to find himself enclosed by a barrier during his performance of Reishi Subordination. Under normal circumstances, if his collection of Reishi had reached such a high level, he would have easily broken it down. Yet this barrier was different. He did not understand what material it was formed from, but it was strong enough to burn away his Quincy powers. Its ability was so abnormal that it remained unaffected even by his control over spiritual particles, though he was unable to focus on analyzing it while still engaged in battle with Mayuri Kurotsuchi.
Although Ishida Uryū's spirit arrow had pierced Mayuri's body, he had been poisoned by Mayuri's toxins in the process. Black poison now spread across his skin in layers. If it reached his heart, he would undoubtedly die.
In those moments of life and death, Mayuri's lieutenant, Kurotsuchi Nemu, struggled on the ground. Although one of her arms had been destroyed and she had taken countless blows, she was still alive. "There is an antidote in my armband," she whispered.
Ishida Uryū was stunned. For a brief moment, he had believed his life was already over, but to his surprise there remained a chance for survival. He quickly retrieved the antidote and drank it down.
Nemu leaned back against the wall. A faint smile appeared on her normally cold face. "If you fire one shot at Captain Mayuri's head, he will surely die. Thank you."
Ishida Uryū spoke quietly. "That was no mistake. I truly wanted to kill him."
He then asked, "I don't understand. With a man like that as your father, why don't you run away?"
Resting against the wall, her long eyelashes lowered slightly as she blinked. "I… I don't know. When I know he's alive, I feel relieved… Just leave after drinking it. If you stay too long and are seen here, others hiding in the area may come. I'll be fine-the other squad members will come to save me…"
"Then I'll leave now… Thank you for the medicine." Ishida placed the bottle aside.
At that moment, Yuta descended from the sky and landed on the ground.
Ishida Uryū, upon seeing him, was visibly surprised. He had not once sensed Yuta's spiritual pressure. For someone of his ability, that should have been impossible. Did that mean Yuta's strength surpassed his own by far? Could it be that the barrier resisting his Quincy powers earlier had been Yuta's creation?
In truth, Ishida didn't know Yuta very well. They had not interacted much in the past. However, he could tell from their actions that Kurosaki Ichigo, Inoue Orihime, and the others placed great value on Yuta. This gave Ishida the impression that Yuta was no ordinary figure.
He bowed his head. "Thank you, Mr. Yuta, for bringing me to Soul Society in the first place. I suspected for some time that my grandfather's death held unanswered questions, and I wanted to investigate here. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance until now."
Nemu, catching sight of Yuta, attempted to rise and salute, but her body was too damaged to move properly. "Forgive me, Great Kidō Master. Nemu is too injured to stand and greet you properly."
Yuta waved his hand dismissively, his tone calm. "There is no need."
He turned to Uryū. "Do you want to see your grandfather again?"
The words made Uryū's entire body freeze. Even though he was wounded and exhausted from battle, his heart began pounding rapidly. His eyes brightened with disbelief as he stared at Yuta. "M-Mr. Yuta… What did you just say?"
Yuta did not elaborate. He stretched out his hand into the air, and a spatial crack opened. On the other side appeared what looked like a research chamber, shelves lined with bottles and containers. Yuta reached in and pulled out a jar filled with liquid.
Floating within the jar was the preserved head of Ishida Sōken, Uryū's grandfather.
The moment Uryū saw it, tears welled in his eyes. His knees gave way and he collapsed to the ground, kneeling before the head as his tears overflowed. "Grandpa… Grandpa!"
He accepted the jar from Yuta with trembling hands. Though the weight was light, it was heavier than anything he had ever carried. Even the hands that never shook while drawing his bow now shook uncontrollably.
Never had he imagined he would see his grandfather again. He clutched the jar tightly, recalling the memories of his grandfather's guidance and warmth. At the very end of his life, even while poisoned and tormented by Mayuri's schemes, Ishida Sōken had not shown pain but passed with peaceful acceptance. To him, sacrificing himself for peace was the highest honor.
Yuta's voice cut through softly. "I'll send you away from Soul Society. When you return, you can lay your grandfather to rest properly and grant him peace."
Uryū's tears fell freely. "Thank you… Thank you, Mr. Yuta. I cannot repay such kindness. If fate ever binds me to your cause, I would not dare to disobey."
Yuta gave a slight smile and waved a hand. "It's nothing of importance. There's no need for thanks."
He paused briefly, then added, "I could even resurrect your grandfather, if you wish. The decision is yours."
Uryū froze in place. Resurrection? Was such a thing truly possible?
At first, his heart leapt with hope. The thought of seeing his grandfather alive filled him with joy. But as the thought settled, he pushed away his tears and answered solemnly. "Thank you, Mr. Yuta… but no. Since my grandfather has passed, let him rest in peace. For his descendants to disturb his sleep would be wrong. Only by letting him rest can he reincarnate with peace of mind. I am already grateful beyond words that I was able to see him once more and to lay him to rest."
On the other side, Nemu watched. Though she claimed not to understand emotions, the corners of her lips lifted faintly, as though some quiet relief had settled inside her.
Yuta gave a small nod.
The next moment, he opened a Garganta. Ishida Uryū followed him, stepping onto the road of Reishi within it.
Uryū's expression shifted as though something weighed on his mind. Yuta glanced back slightly and spoke calmly. "If you have something to say, then say it."
Uryū hadn't expected Yuta to see through him so easily. "I do have something I wish to ask, Mr. Yuta… I asked my master this before. I want to know-" His eyes drew cold with resolve. "Between the Shinigami and the Quincy… who is the righteous side?"
