Chapter 29 - 29

Mayuri stood with his back facing Unohana and the others. In the deep blue space around them, darkness stretched in every direction. Only Mayuri's figure stood out, highlit like a carving against night.

"How's it coming?"

He had only studied for one night, but his eyes were already bloodshot, as though he had worked for several nights straight without rest.

He spoke in his usual eerie, grating tone: "You all know that after the body in this world dies, the soul turns into either 'whole' or 'Hollow'."

"The Shinigami guides the soul to the Soul Society through soul burials and other methods."

"So then, when a spirit body in the Soul Society dies… where does that soul go?"

"The answer is: this world."

"After investigation, Mouse No. 79 soul has already returned to the living world."

"In other words, Yuta's 'resurrection' is not a 'reversal' of time that 'rejects' events already set in motion."

"But rather... a form of 'creation.'"

"However, it's not possible to confirm whether the soul Yuta used was something developed through artificial spirit-soul technology."

"The only thing certain is that this 'created' soul is identical to the original."

"Which means…"

Unohana responded in shock: "In other words, Yuta's manipulation of the soul has become so refined he can perfectly duplicate one."

"This means Yuta's Kaidō can repair any injury. Even with only a head left, or an arm-or a single drop of blood-as long as the soul isn't completely destroyed… he could restore it."

Finishing her statement, Unohana remained stunned at the implications hidden in those words.

She sighed softly. "Yuta's Kaidō has likely reached the pinnacle that technique can attain. It's no longer something I can analyze."

Isane Kotetsu followed quickly, clearly excited. "Captain Unohana! If someone with his talent joins our Fourth Division, wouldn't that be incredible for our medical team?"

Unohana nodded slightly and smiled. "It would be. We should visit Shino Academy immediately."

Mayuri interrupted: "Hold on. There's no guarantee he'd belong to your Fourth Division."

He sounded bitter. "You're all focused on his healing abilities-but what I see is Yuta's potential in scientific research."

"His ability to develop spirit, soul technology with this level of sophistication could seriously advance our work with souls."

"Even now, I don't fully understand how he created the soul. If it was based on the principle of the Gikongan Pill… that would make sense."

"But If it's something beyond the Gikongan Pill…"

Mayuri trailed off. His face was hidden beneath his mask, but his gaze had turned severe. "…then Yuta alone would be enough to represent the 'history' of Soul Society."

Fifth Division Barracks

From outside it looked plain-the kind of utilitarian building built for function over flash. Inside the wooden corridor, Hinamori Momo walked at her own pace. Members of the Fifth greeted her as she passed.

"Hello, Vice-Captain Hinamori."

"Hello."

She smiled and nodded naturally. The mood was light; warm camaraderie floated between steps.

Just before reaching the captain's room she hesitated at the door, then knocked twice with care.

"Come in."

The gentle reply came from within.

Hinamori pressed her hand to her chest and entered the room.

The floor was covered in straw mats. Hanging scrolls decorated the walls, filled with calligraphy written in black ink and thick strokes that exuded patience and precision.

Behind a desk sat Captain Sōsuke AIzen. He wore his black Shihakushō and over it, his white haori with the number "五" on its back painted inside a diamond frame.

The man with neat brown hair and dark-rimmed glasses smiled lightly. "Hinamori-you're late today."

She clutched her hands together and pulled her toes inward nervously. "There was… an accident."

"Can you tell me what happened?"

When she looked up again he hadn't criticized her once-not that she expected him to. Captain AIzen would probably rather hurt himself than ever cause her pain…

She quickly explained meeting Yuta.

"Yesterday I sold some fresh peaches and was about to return to the barracks… when I ran into Matsumoto and Yuta."

"Yuta?"

"Yuta's one of the students from Shino Academy. Captain Aizen probably hasn't heard of him before."

AIzen smiled and nodded. "That is indeed the first time I've heard that name."

What she failed to notice was that as soon as he heard it, his hand stopped moving over the documents he had been writing on.

"Matsumoto pulled me aside to have a drink and offered me wine Yuta had made himself. Matsumoto got drunk after only one glass."

AIzen raised a curious eyebrow. "What kind of drink would do that? Even Matsumoto doesn't go down that easily."

Hinamori recalled what she saw then and replied slowly: "I think Yuta did something with the glass before pouring it… but there wasn't any obvious movement. According to him… it might've been some kind of magic."

"Magic?" AIzen repeated thoughtfully as he raised his brow slightly higher. "That sounds… interesting."

Hinamori giggled softly, relaxing slightly as she spoke again: "If we get another chance to invite Captain AIzen for drinks-we'll make sure you try it too!"

She wasn't fond of alcohol herself, but she would drink anything the moment AIzen showed interest.

"Hmm." He handed her a folder from his desk. "Here, take care of these files for me."

"Yes!" Momo took them immediately and headed out with energy, closing the door behind her carefully.

Once alone, AIzen picked up a cup of tea nearby and tilted it in his hand-the surface swaying first left, then right.

For Matsumoto Rangiku to get drunk from one glass-it confirmed one thing: whatever Yuta created wasn't wine known within Seireitei.

The spirit-soul tech originated from Hikifune Kirio-the previous Twelfth Division Captain and now Royal Guard member.

Its core functions hinge on inserting foreign spiritual pressure into one's body to enhance output power; foods Hikifune made could temporarily raise spiritual power after consumption.

That ability… resembled whatever "wine" Yuta had crafted perfectly.

If it was done using known spirit-soul tech… then it was within expectation.

If not…
