Think about it - did anything unusual happen yesterday?
Although it doesn't have to be yesterday, let's tentatively set the time as yesterday.
The time is set. The next step is to determine the location.
Mikami Asui thought about yesterday's experiences.
Thinking carefully - she had class first, then went to the library to read the Book of Kidō.
Was it Kuchiki Rukia's Kidō class?
Kiyota Kuranosuke's Sword Zen class?
The Asauchi in the Hidden Sword Pavilion?
Or… was it the library where Yuta and I read together?
Mikami Asui looked at Yuta's back as he left with the others and fell into deep thought.
...
Seeing Yuta leave, Kuchiki Rukia looked worried.
She clenched her teeth. Even in the worst case scenario, she would use the power of the Kuchiki family to protect him.
"You all continue practicing. Sensei needs to step out for a while."
After giving simple instructions, Rukia Kuchiki walked out of the Kidō classroom.
She followed Yuta in secret.
Only a few people walked toward a balcony with a wide view.
Rukia Kuchiki could only hide behind a pillar and watch them.
She was too far to hear clearly.
She saw the captain of the 12th Division, Mayuri, holding Yuta's hand with surprising friendliness and saying something excitedly.
Fourth Squad leader Unohana Retsu squinted her eyes, crossed her arms over her chest, and listened with a smile - though there was something tense beneath it.
...
"This must be the one. He really is a talented one."
"First time meeting - I am Mayuri, Captain of the 12th Division."
Yuta nodded lightly. "Yuta Hideki."
Mayuri narrowed his eyes slightly. Yuta's calm demeanor wasn't something ordinary civilians could ever replicate.
Most civilian students had only recently entered school. They had rarely seen a Shinigami from Seireitei - much less someone of captain rank.
Two captains appearing in person at Shinō Academy, inside a classroom no less, to meet one student - that alone would overwhelm most students with fear or nervousness. At minimum, they should have been shocked or cautious. Yet Yuta simply stood calm and composed - as though this was normal for him.
"You've probably already guessed why we came."
"With your level of scientific aptitude, you're completely wasting your time in Shinō Academy. These people aren't qualified to teach you."
"Why don't you join my 12th Division? The salary is adequate - food and board are both included."
"So? What do you think?"
Mayuri laid out her proposal and watched Yuta closely with interest.
If she could bring Yuta into Division 12, their research would advance dramatically in no time.
"Captain Mayuri flatters me. The technologies of Division 12 are indeed amazing... but I'd prefer to wait until graduation before joining any division," Yuta replied after some thought.
Mayuri nodded. "I was being too forward. It's good to polish your strength first in the academy. However, whenever you're ready to join Division 12 - we'll offer you the best conditions."
Unohana smiled. "It's not only Division 12 - our 4th Division would welcome you too, Yuta. And… we have many young and lovely female Shinigami who would love to chat with you."
As she spoke, her eyes flicked over toward Kotetsu Isane.
Kotetsu Isane immediately flushed red. She stamped her foot, embarrassed beyond words. "Captain!"
...
Kuchiki Rukia saw Yuta shake his head and say something brief in return.
Unohana accepted it without protest.
Mayuri seemed disappointed for a moment before recovering quickly. She offered some final words, waved to Yuta, then turned and left.
Unohana also gave a wave as she followed him out - her white haori fluttering with every step. She left as gently as she appeared - not disturbing a single breeze. Truly worthy of being Captain Unohana.
After everything settled down, Yuta walked over calmly.
Kuchiki Rukia couldn't help but step forward and ask with curiosity, "What did those two captains want with you?"
"They came to invite me to join their squads."
Kuchiki Rukia felt tension take hold in her chest and clenched her hands tightly. She didn't believe that reasoning so easily. She suspected that Yuta was holding something back - possibly not wanting to drag her into it.
Even so… no matter what it was… I would absolutely come save you.
Her gaze trembled but remained firm.
...
After the two returned to the Kidō classroom-
The students had all kinds of questions swirling inside them, but no one dared to speak during class. They focused on listening instead.
Rukia Kuchiki stepped forward once again and cleared her throat before continuing on with the lesson.
"The so-called Kidō is essentially advanced spiritual spellwork used for attack, defense, and healing..."
Officially speaking, this was the first-level Kidō class for new students.
All of the civilian students soaked up knowledge quickly - eager to catch up and prove themselves useful.
Ding ding ding-
When the bell rang, everyone realized class was over at last.
Rukia Kuchiki announced clearly: "That will be all for today."
"Goodbye, Kuchiki-sensei!" the students said in unison - all except for one boy leaning lazily against the wall: Yuta.
He hadn't moved at all during class. He had slept straight through it without paying attention from beginning to end.
Kuchiki Rukia walked over beside him with a smile. She didn't scold him or wake him up - instead she flipped through her teaching notes beside him, double-checking for anything she might've missed earlier during class delivery.
The other students slowly filtered out after the bell rang...
Except for Mikami Asui - who stayed seated in place long afterward.
Yurika called out to her from near the door: "Mikami? Is something wrong?"
Mikami Asui smiled gently. "It's nothing... I'm waiting for Yuta."
She looked over toward Kuchiki Rukia and Yuta once again.
Those two were among the only people she had interacted with yesterday... If anything really strange had happened then-it must have begun with one of them...
She got up and walked over to Kuchiki Rukia's side and spoke politely:
"Teacher Kuchiki… I was having some trouble during class today understanding some parts of the Abandonment Chant..."
Kuchiki Rukia smiled kindly in return. She tucked some loose strands of hair behind one ear and nodded patiently before launching into another explanation.
