Chapter 142: First Round of Testing
Finren Village. Seraph stands before an old man to take the qualifying test.
Seraph's right hand touches the crystal ball in front of him.
A root in Seraph's hand pierces the crystal ball, testing the qualification.
The crystal ball emits a bright green light.
The crystal ball uses the Kisen staff as a measure of Seraph's qualification.
The bright green light catches the eyes of the crowd.
The crowd stands in shock at this phenomenon.
The villagers are talking, "Look! He's even more talented than my son!"
"Who is this kid!?"
"With his clothes so torn, he still has such abilities!"
"Baa... Don't tell me this young kid will pass the test!"
The villagers express their shock at Seraph's passing the test.
The old man in charge of testing the ball looks on with a calm expression.
He turned to look at the person initiating the test.
When he saw Seraph's face, he looked so young that the old man didn't think he'd pass.
[This is crazy! At this age, he can create such bright green light!? This child will one day be a genius. I must flatter him and not let him change his mind and refuse the test. I'll be the proctor. At this age, he can demonstrate his qualifications for training. He has a bright future ahead of him.]
"What's your name, young one?"
Seraph nodded. "Kisen." [Good. I'll use that name to take the test. At the very least, I have to keep my name a secret for safety. If something comes up that you're from Seren Tenshin Academy, which is under the Tenshin School's control, it'll be a much longer story.]
"Very good. My name is Richard. Nice to meet you, Kisen. I'll guide you into the test and introduce you."
Seraph nodded. "Thank you very much."
Richard led Seraph. Seraph followed him along the path.
The path was lined with trees.
Seraph followed at a leisurely pace. Kisen's staff sent a psychic message, "Why use my name instead of yours? What do you mean, Seraph-junior?"
Seraph brought Kisen's staff closer to speak quietly, sending it to Richard, who was walking in front of him.
"Actually, I think I should use the name Kisen-senpai, to prevent any detection of false positives. And most importantly, I don't want to claim to have passed the test if it wasn't my fault. So, I want Kisen-senpai's reputation to spread far and wide. I don't want to accept things that weren't my fault, okay?"
Kisen laughed. "Haha, great, junpai. You've saved my life, right? Alright, I'll break the test entry record."Pherenin Academy, pass and you'll get the highest score. Trust me, senior! I won't disappoint you."
After a while, Richard and Seraph arrived at their destination.
It was the sign for the Pherenin Academy. Surrounded by water, fish were swimming around.
In front of the sign, three blue fish, as big as a house, were swimming above the school.
Richard led Seraph into the academy. The door opened, revealing a large crowd of people waiting to take the test. Each of them was noticeably older than Seraph.
The room was blue, with flowing water patterns, and the air was refreshing. Fish were swimming beneath the ground.
People looked at the newcomers to the test bot.
Seraph followed behind Richard. [Hmm, there are so many people. Don't mind me. Mind the others!]
Richard said to Seraph, "Kisevan, go wait in your groups. The test will begin soon."
Seraph joined the crowd.
Richard walked straight to a chair, waiting for the entrance exam to start.
People were shouting, "Look! A kid this young dares to come and take the exam?"
"You have no shame, do you think you're better than us?"
"That's ridiculous! I haven't passed three rounds already, so how could a kid this young pass?"
"You little brat, hurry back! It's embarrassing for us to compete in the same age as a kid like you."
The gossip was loud, trying to intimidate Seraph.
Seraph walked unconcerned until he reached the wall, waiting for the competition to begin.
[Do these guys think I want to come? They've never even taken the Sect Master's exam. I haven't even trained at all since the beginning?]
Kisen spoke up, "Calm down, Seraph, you little brat!" I'll stomp them for you. Rest assured.
"Thank you very much." [Why aren't you allowed to bring anything in yet? Well, I'll tell you later.]
Time passed, and people started to walk into the testing room. The room started to fill up.
Richard looked at the clock and stood up.
Richard took out a stick the size of his arm and placed it near his mouth. A golden light shone through it. "Alright, all of you who will become members of the proud Flairin School. My name is Richard, the proctor for this round. This competition for Flairin School Master has one rule: No killing of any other person will result in disqualification from the Flairin School entrance exam. Do you understand?"
A resounding response: "Yes!" "Yes!"
"Then, the first round of the entrance exam. The race is headed towards the finish line. The number of places is limited to one hundred. You must all run through obstacles to advance. The race begins!"
The entrance doors closed immediately. At Richard's voice, "Ding!"
The large door to the test opened, revealing numerous boulders floating in the water. The water was brown mud.
The silver-colored boulders formed a path that people had to hop over and over to reach the finish line. It was a race across the muddy water on the ground, using the boulders as stepping stones.
The crowd shouted in encouragement and began running forward, stepping on the boulders. The sound of the boulders hitting the ground was deafening.
Yaaaaaa! Yaaaaaa! Yaaaaaa!
The crowd was filled with the sound of running.
The ceiling was covered in brown mud.
The area was so vast that people could turn around without worry.
Some people had fallen into the mud pit. When they emerged from the mud, they began running along the boulders.
The sound of the boulders slamming against each other began.
The shouts of insults gradually intensified.
Richard looked at the competitors. Showing off his skills to compete for rankings. "This is what it's called. Try your best to enter the sect. If you want something, do it to the best of your ability."
Richard turned to look at Seraph, who stood motionless.
Richard was shocked to see Seraph running towards the muddy river, his expression calm as if he wasn't nervous.
"Damn it! Has Kisen not even started yet? Why is he starting so slowly!?"
Richard stood looking at Seraph, who was running at a normal speed.
Seraph ran up and saw a lone rock standing in the muddy water.
Seraph turned to look at the countless rocks, stacked in the distance. To reach the finish line, he had to jump over them. There were so many of them, it could be said that...
Not sweating or not being tired is unbelievable. Except for martial artists, who have more strength than normal people.
[I'm dead. Telling me I have to jump on each rock to reach the finish line would be like having a heart attack. Who would be able to do that? Let's test it out!]
Seraph leaps and steps on one rock. Thud!
Seraph leaps and steps on a second rock. Thud!
Seraph wipes the sweat from his forehead. [Okay, about thirty more. He'll probably be out of breath. Who invented such an energy-consuming competition!? Is this tester a monster or something? Jumping around, not even thinking about conserving energy. Where does he get his energy from?]
Richard stares at Seraph for a moment, then sighs. "Boring, Kisen kid. What are you doing here? With such a skill, you dare test me? How ridiculous!"
Richard ignores Seraph and flies forward to wait for the finish line to be counted. Whoosh!
Seraph looks up, Seraph's position in last place.
