Chapter 149: Lugia, Seriously Injured?!
After the battle, Ryu and the ancient Dragonite sat together to review his tactics.
"Your idea of making the Aura Sphere spin is really good," she said. "Is it your own idea?"
"Hmm? Oh, no. The idea came from a human story," he replied, thinking of Naruto's Rasengan. Humans were skilled at developing 'techniques,' deriving ever-changing routines from the same basic moves.
"Speaking of which, how strong was your old leader?" Ryu asked.
"A little stronger than I was at my peak," she replied after a moment's thought. At her strongest, she was already a very powerful Dragonite, likely around Lv. 75. That meant the old leader must have reached the ceiling of the Elite level, perhaps even touching the realm of a Champion.
"Yes, very powerful," she nodded. "But even more powerful were the two large birds that appeared several hundred years ago. Many people still regard them as 'Gods.'" She recalled the scenes from that time with lingering fear.
"Right! I remembered," Ryu said. "Why did that Lugia attack the Dragonite Valley?"
"Lugia?" she tilted her head, unfamiliar with the name.
"Yes, the big white bird. It usually sleeps in the ocean trenches."
"Well, it was because the Tyranitar fought with it," she explained. "At that time, Tyranitar was next to Mt. Silver. Its attack caused Lugia's attack to deviate, and it landed in our territory."
"That's really unlucky. Did anyone die?"
"No casualties. At that time, the leader blocked the attack and then quickly led everyone to run away. The plain was only leveled by the aftermath."
"Then why did Tyranitar and Lugia fight?"
"The human war was too vast. Lugia and that red bird were sweeping across the battlefield with hurricanes and flames. The commotion affected the Silver Mountain Range, and that overlord's temper isn't very good. It attacked the closer of the two, Lugia."
"Then Tyranitar died in battle?" Ryu asked, recalling the historical records.
"Yes, the overlord died. Lugia was seriously injured. And the war..."
"Wait?! You said... Lugia was seriously injured?!" Ryu's eyes widened.
This was the most explosive news he had heard since coming to this world. Lugia, the "Sea God," was a legendary beast known for its incredible bulk and its ability to use Recover. For the overlord Tyranitar of Mt. Silver to have seriously injured it meant that Tyranitar's power was undisputed. It was at least at the pinnacle of the Champion level, and more likely, had even entered the realm of a Master. No wonder one of its Earthquakes had been enough to permanently block the road between Kanto and Johto.
"Yes," the Dragonite confirmed. "After Tyranitar fell, Lugia immediately flew back into the sea with a grim expression. That should be a sign of serious injury, right?"
"Most likely," he nodded, still a little disbelieving.
"Have you seen those two large birds since then?"
"Well, I've seen the red one a few times," she recalled. "It seems to fly around a lot."
Ryu nodded. That sounded like Ho-Oh. A "street bum," as some fans in his old world called it, always making appearances. "As for Lugia," the Dragonite continued, "it seems to have never appeared again."
That was also normal. A serious injury could take centuries to heal, and Lugia was a homebody anyway.
"What are you planning to do next?" she asked.
"Well," he thought for a bit. "I'll train Floragato for a while longer, and when she evolves, I'll probably have to leave." It was time to set off and fulfill his two promises.
"Oh," she nodded, her face showing no joy or sorrow. She had known this day would come. She wanted to go with him, but she was old and had her own responsibilities to her family and friends here. It was best to have him accompany her, but she had been walking this path alone for a thousand years.
She couldn't leave. There were more things here that she needed to cherish and protect.
