Chapter 148 - Training with an Elder

Chapter 148: Training with an Elder

In the blink of an eye, Ryu and Floragato had been staying with the Dragon Tamer Clan for over half a month. During that time, the two of them became like elders on the plain, guiding the younger Pokémon and the clan's human descendants.

Ryu, being rather self-centered, spent most of his time guiding his own apprentice, Floragato. Unfortunately, she lost seven or eight out of every ten practice battles. This wasn't because she was weak, but because Ryu would only pit her against opponents who were at least five levels higher and had a type advantage.

She never complained. Even when she was lying on the ground, unable to stand, she would grit her teeth and not make a sound. This perseverance surprised the ancient Dragonite, who praised Ryu for raising a good apprentice. Whenever that happened, Ryu's face would show a proud expression, and seeing him like that, Floragato would feel that all her hard work was meaningful.

The battle ended. The loser, once again, was Floragato.

"It's a pity I couldn't teach her any Fairy-type moves," Ryu sighed. Between him and the ancient Dragonite, neither knew any. Looking for a Fairy-type specialist in the Dragon Tamer Clan was a bit of a joke.

Of course, Ryu didn't just spend time on Floragato. He glanced down at his personal panel.

[Sceptile]

[Level]: Lv. 53

[New Moves]: Rock Tomb, Aura Sphere

In half a month, his level had increased by four. Rock Tomb he had learned from observing the Gligar on Scorpion Island, but the remaining time was all spent on Aura Sphere. It was a special Fighting-type ultimate move, perfect for his stats.

"Do you want me to spar with you?" the ancient Dragonite asked.

"Yes, please," he nodded without hesitation. He knew that even though she was old, her strength was still firmly at the Elite level. He had just learned Aura Sphere and couldn't grasp its true power yet. Against her, he wouldn't have to worry about holding back.

As they took their positions, all the other Pokémon and people on the plain gathered to watch.

Boom!

Ryu stomped the ground, and sharp, giant rocks erupted from the grass. He wasn't aiming for her; he was creating a battlefield, a forest of stone that would allow him to utilize his species' natural advantages.

[Extreme Speed]!

He shot forward, bouncing between the giant rocks, his body a green shadow.

"So fast!" the onlookers exclaimed. "I can't see him at all!"

To the ancient Dragonite, however, his speed was still within the range of her vision. In less than two seconds, he had crossed twenty meters, shattered four stone pillars, and appeared before her, a golden, spiraling [Aura Sphere] aimed at her chest.

Boom!

She extended her palm and caught it. She didn't even use a move; she simply extinguished the attack with her raw power, leaving only a few faint black marks on her hand.

"...You're a bit too strong," Ryu said, dumbfounded.

"It's already very impressive," she encouraged him with a smile.
