Chapter 116: The Angry Corphish
"Poor little guy," Ryu shook his head. A newborn Pokémon being released into the wild would have a tough life.
The next morning, the blue-haired man was holding the now-hatched baby Pokémon, looking troubled. "The closest place is the Indigo Plateau, but we just went there. We have to go to Sinnoh this time, which will take at least four or five days. This little one won't last that long."
He looked at Ryu. "Grovyle, I'll leave this egg's sibling to you. Take it with you when we get off the ship." He opened the cage and handed the green Pokémon egg to Ryu.
"Taking it is fine," Ryu thought, a bit distracted as he recalled incubating Zubat on Mt. Silver.
Next to him, Corphish woke up and saw his friend incubating an egg. He stared blankly, his expression growing sad and indignant. He turned red like a boiled lobster.
CLANG! CLANG!
He frantically hammered the iron cage. "COR! COR! (You scoundrels! What did you do to my friend last night?! He's not even a month old!)"
"Hey, you're too noisy. Calm down," Ryu said, stroking the egg.
"Cor~" Corphish cried bitterly before promptly falling asleep again, snot bubbles popping from his nose.
After some time, the ship stopped. "Time to get off the ship, little friends," the blue-haired man said.
Medicham used its psychic power to float their cages out of the warehouse and onto the shore of what was less an island and more a huge, barren reef.
"Cor! Cor!" As soon as he landed, Corphish saw Tom, unconscious but unharmed, in another cage. The blue-haired man and Medicham then opened all three cages. Corphish rushed to Tom's side, and after confirming he was okay, he angrily chased after the thieves.
"Cor?! (Where's the speedboat?!)"
"...Not good," Ryu thought, recalling that the speedboat was nowhere to be seen on the thieves' ship.
"Hmm? That speedboat? Of course it was destroyed," the blue-haired man said nonchalantly. "If it were discovered..."
Whoosh!
Before he could finish, Corphish's eyes turned red, and he unleashed a Bubble Beam. Medicham easily deflected it with Psybeam, but the commotion attracted the attention of the other thieves on the ship, who began to rush over.
"Stop it!" Ryu yelled, running to Corphish's side. "It's just a ship! Be careful they don't attack Tom!"
"I kindly let you go, but you attacked me?" the blue-haired man said, his expression hardening.
"COR!!" Corphish pushed Ryu aside and charged forward, pincers raised.
The next moment, seven or eight attacks—Flamethrower, Razor Leaf, Thunderbolt—shot out from the ship. If Corphish took that hit, he would be seriously injured.
Ryu put the egg down and shot forward with [Extreme Speed]. His target wasn't the man, but Corphish.
Thump!
He slammed into his friend, tackling him out of the way just as the attacks hit the reef in a small explosion. Ryu ignored the blast, enduring the recoil pain from using Extreme Speed with his still-developing body to stand up. His nerves could react, but his body couldn't quite keep up.
