Chapter 115: The Thief's Cheeky Move
The next morning, Ryu awoke in a pitch-dark cage. He wasn't panicked, just surprised. With his vigilance, he should have woken up if someone had approached.
Peng!
"Cor! Cor!" A familiar, angry sound came from the cage next to him. It was Corphish, furiously pounding on the bars and cursing. Hearing his voice, Ryu relaxed a little. It was clear that neither Corphish nor Tom were responsible. This could only be the work of a Ghost-type or Psychic-type Pokémon, and a powerful one at that.
After some time, a roller shutter door was pulled up.
"So energetic~ What good luck," a sharp male voice rang out. The cloak over the cage was pulled off, revealing a man with long, sea-blue hair standing in the warehouse of a ship.
"Hey, genius," Ryu said, sighing at Corphish's silly, friendly wave. He looked around. Tom was nowhere to be seen, but there were dozens of Pokémon eggs in glass containers.
"Pokémon poachers?" he wondered.
"Oh my~ What a strong and powerful Grovyle," the blue-haired man said, approaching the cage. "It makes my liver tremble just looking at it."
Creep, Ryu thought, a chill running down his spine. Thankfully, the man's attention soon turned to Corphish.
"Hmm~ Looks like a blockhead. Won't cause any trouble."
"Cor!" Corphish immediately became furious.
"Medicham, explain the situation to these two and tell them to behave," the man said, pointing behind Ryu before leaving.
Ryu turned and saw a pink Pokémon that had been dancing silently behind him the whole time. It was a Medicham, and it was using its dance to train its psychic energy, eliminating its presence. A wave of telepathic communication entered their minds.
This blue-haired man was a professional thief. He stole Pokémon eggs from Leagues and Nurseries in one region, then had his subordinates in other regions turn them in for a reward. They didn't harm the Pokémon; if a baby grew out of its infant stage, they would simply release it into the wild. It was a cheeky, and surprisingly non-violent, criminal enterprise.
Medicham explained that they would be left on a nearby deserted island, and then the thieves would spread the news that they were stranded so they could be rescued.
"Cor? (Where's Tom?)" Corphish asked, his only concern being his trainer. Medicham responded that the human was locked in another room and was not in danger. Hearing this, Corphish calmed down and immediately fell asleep.
Ryu examined the 46 eggs. 'There must be at least 46 people on this ship,' he thought. Just the Medicham, which was at least Lv. 40, was enough to handle Corphish. There was no way he could fight them all. He decided to just wait.
That night, he was awakened by a rhythmic glow. A green egg was about to hatch.
