Chapter 107: Taken Away by Officer Jenny
The Pelipper had just landed when a group of children gathered around.
"Why is there a Treecko in that Pelipper's mouth?"
"I don't know. Look, it's coming out by itself. They must be friends."
Ryu climbed out of the Pelipper's beak. The children's presence was another confirmation that this was indeed the Alliance Era. In the past, children were forbidden from casually interacting with unknown Pokémon.
"Thank you. You can go on your way. I'll wander around by myself," he told the Pelipper, who nodded and flew off toward the harbor.
"Ah, the Pelipper left the Treecko here."
"What should we do? It's so small. Should we take it to the Pokémon Hospital?"
Ryu looked at the kind-hearted children. The term "Pokémon Hospital" instead of "Pokémon Center" told him that this was an early period of the Alliance Era, likely before the establishment of the official Pokémon League tournaments.
He ducked into a nearby alleyway. A lone baby Treecko would attract too much attention. If he was seen, he'd surely be taken to Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny, and he needed to get to the Johto region to see how the Dragon Tamer Clan was doing.
"?"
Suddenly, a woman's voice sounded from behind him. He immediately bolted.
"Treecko!" he yelped in panic as something snatched him up. With his reaction speed, it could only have been a Pokémon.
"Woof!"
A dog's bark sounded, and he was transferred into the hands of a human. It was a Growlithe. And the human holding him was... Officer Jenny.
"Little guy, why are you here alone? Did you sneak out of a Breeding House?" she asked in a gentle but firm voice.
"Speak of the devil," Ryu muttered loudly to himself. "What should I do now? I won't really be sent to a research institute, will I?"
"Hmm? What are you chirping about?" Officer Jenny poked his belly. "It's a little boy."
"Hey, have some boundaries!" he squawked, struggling wildly.
"Oh, don't move. Be good, and I'll get you some Moomoo Milk when we get back to the station."
Hearing about food, Ryu immediately calmed down.
"You calmed down when you heard about food. You're definitely going to be a foodie," she laughed, placing him in her bicycle basket.
"Is the police force this shabby in this era?" he complained, looking at the bicycle. He then noticed that while most people used simple transport, there were still some horse-drawn carriages on the street, likely belonging to nobles. The Pokémon world's technology had always been strange.
The police station was a simple three-story building. "The Pokémon Alliance still has a long way to go," he sighed.
"Don't just sit there like a little young master," Officer Jenny said, picking him up. He looked down at the Growlithe's fluffy head and, on an impulse, jumped out of her hands and landed squarely on top of it.
"Okay, let's go," he said, grabbing a tuft of fur.
"You child," Officer Jenny shook her head helplessly, while the Growlithe just bounced happily, not minding at all.
When they entered the second-floor office, Ryu immediately became the center of attention.
"Oh, Officer Jenny, where did you arrest this little Treecko?"
"He must have been separated from his Trainer."
"Little baby, come to Auntie. Auntie has fruit here."
Baby Pokémon were a rare sight, their infancy lasting only a week or two. The police officers all found him quite novel and gathered around.
