Chapter 92: Target: Razor Fang
"From the Royal Palace to Mt. Silver is about 100 kilometers... so my speed is about 1,200 kilometers per hour?!" Alan did some quick math on the ground, a calculation that startled him. His speed was now faster than a civilian airliner, reaching the minimum for a supersonic aircraft.
"Okay, first I'll take Gligar to get the Razor Fang, and then I can start traveling back and forth to Dragonite Valley to learn moves," he finalized his plan.
With war imminent, there was no time to wait for Gligar to become strong enough to defeat the Gliscor leader on his own. Evolving into a Gliscor would cause a qualitative change in his combat power.
Without a word, he found Gligar, grabbed him by the tail, and prepared to leave. But first, he had to see Liz. The journey to the island off the coast of Cherrygrove City was long; he wouldn't be back in a day.
He arrived outside her second-floor study and tapped on the new, extra-large window. Liz immediately got up to open it.
"Alan? Why are you holding Little Scorpio like that?" she asked, looking at the fainted Gligar in his hand. The sudden dizzying speed had been too much for him.
"Uh... it's fine. What are you here for?" Liz asked, hugging him as if it were a daily routine.
"I need to take Gligar to Cherrygrove City," he explained, pointing to the ocean near the city on the map. Liz understood immediately that he meant the isolated island where Gligar's colony lived.
"How long will you be gone? You won't be gone for a long time again, will you?"
"Three days at most," he said, holding up three fingers.
"Alright then. Go quickly and come back quickly. Oh, and could you take a letter to Elder Maeve for me?" she asked, retrieving a letter from her desk. It was undoubtedly about the impending war.
She placed the letter in a satchel and hung it around his neck. "Got it," he nodded.
First, he took Gligar to the Pokémon Research Institute to get treated with a new, highly efficient herbal ointment they had developed. By afternoon, Gligar was fully recovered.
"Let's go. I'll take you to get the Razor Fang," Alan said.
"Gligar?" the Pokémon tilted his head, feeling he still couldn't win.
"I'll fight him," Alan stated firmly. "There's no time. We are about to go to war. With your current strength, you can only watch as Liz and the others die."
"Gligar?!" The Pokémon had never heard this before. The thought of Liz in danger filled him with a new courage, and he nodded obediently.
What would have taken a horse five or six days, they flew in one. They arrived at Cherrygrove City the next morning. Elder Maeve was already outside sweeping her yard. She recognized Gligar and, having heard the news from the capital, correctly deduced that the chubby dragon was Alan.
"Long time no see, Alan, Little Scorpio," she greeted them warmly, spotting the bag around his neck. "Does Liz have something for me?"
"Mhm." Alan handed her the satchel.
"Thank you for your trouble... It seems you've eaten quite a bit these past two years, hehe. Being able to eat is a blessing," she said, reaching out to pat his large belly.
"Uh... Elder Maeve, we need to go," Alan said, trying to leave.
"Leaving already? Won't you stay for a meal?"
As soon as she said this, Gligar immediately ran over and grabbed Alan with his pincers, refusing to let him leave.
"Gligar~"
