Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Periwinkle

『Hakari Kotaro』

"Ugh... everything hurts..."

I cracked my neck and groaned as I felt the ache and exhaustion radiate through my body. I properly hurt.

"You did pretty good brother, pretty damn good for your fist ever fight. I was actually almost pressed a few times."

Izuku lifted his head off the ground and gave me a look that spoke to lengths about how he felt without him having to say anything.

"Almost...? You're kidding me."

I shrugged, enjoying the pleasant ache of a hard workout.

"Hey, this is your first day. You should be happy that you pushed me to actually try and keep up rather than overreach. That is not something many in class can say for themselves."

I walked over to his prone body and nudged it with my foot while using Minor Healing Light on the limp soggy man, causing a magical soft golden wash over his body and make the bruises recede. Once it as done, he let out a soft groan of relief.

"What you should focus on from now is technique and limit. Try working out, and trying to include Full Cowling little by little into your workout. Mostly runs and weighted runs. Take the rest of the day off, come here every second day, and the days where we don't spar, you'll be training your ass off, got that, Brother?"

He managed to push himself to his feet finally and gave a weary nod. The flame in his eyes may burn, but so did every muscle in his body. I was not holding back on him. Fighting him was fun, and I wanted to see if he could even defeat me in a spar.

"Y-Yes brother!!!"

Frowning just a little I covered my ears. He could work on the volume.

"You didn't have to shout it, but good spirit. Now go, you'll have a long schedule ahead of you. I'll make sure you go from a horse to be beckoned, to a force to be reckoned with."

His brows furrowed, but he nodded nonetheless and we both went to the changing room and changed out of training uniforms before going our separate ways. He was probably going to study or sleep, but unlike him, I still had my duties as a dammed nurse. Though my mood was pretty damn good. Why? Because I just got a good exercise and still had these two tickets on me.

The silver advantage skill for getting Deku to full cowling and this bad boy.

Feat Achieved! Defeat 3% Full Cowling Deku in hand to hand

+1x Silver Advantage Ability Ticket

While I felt like it was a bit light, it made sense. Deku was pretty strong, but he was an untrained basic enhancer with just 3% of his Quirk available to him while I actively had to hold back my bag of tricks to make it a fair fight.

Without further ado, I might as well roll the ticket before I start my nurse shift.

Rolling Silver Skill Gacha with advantage...

[Intermediate Hand-to-Hand Combat]

Uncommon Skill

You are a seasoned fighter, you know how to move your body to hurt people and can pick up most martial arts far faster than other people. You would completely thrash the average man in a fight.

or

[Sign Language]

Trash Skill

You know how to use the basic sign language of this world as well as you can speak your native language.

Sign language? The only language I need my hands to sign ever is pain. I'll get that Intermediate Hand-to-Hand Combat thank you very much.

I closed my eyes as I felt an influx of information settle in my brain, the experience was nowhere near as bad as Intermediate Biology, probably because I already was an Intermediate or even above in Hand-to-Hand combat. But it was not fruitless, it definitely covered some gap and experience in my repertoire.

Now then, let's see what I got from beating Izuku.

Rolling Silver Ability Gacha with advantage...

[Soul Arrow]

Common Ability

Darksouls - Draw energy from your life and soul and shape it as a weapon, taking the shape of a simple arrow projectile that can curve in the air towards targets. As the origin of the arrow is linked to the soul, it's power scales with the might of one's soul in addition to their energy levels.

or

[Iron Skin]

Uncommon Ability

Allows the user to increase the toughness and density of their flesh, causing their skin to turn into hefty armor comparable to metal. But maintaining this ability can slow the user down due to the added weight and mass.

My decision was quite decisive, Soul Arrow looked pretty neat. But I already Slicing Exorcism, Supernova and Piercing Blood to rely on as my ranged options thanks to Greater Hemokinesis.

Iron Skin on the other hand was something that I really needed, a reliable defensive option that stacked with my other defenses. Not to mention, the increased Density was not exactly a disadvantage in a fight. At least not always.

It is good to be able to take an attack and NOT be flung away. And it would come in especially handy when grappling.

Hmm, can I...?

I let a bit of blood slip out of my wrist with Hemokinesis while pulling on Iron Skin. And I felt it just... click together.

"Oh yeah."

The blood turned into a silvery hue and got considerably denser, like liquid metal but still just as versatile. Though much more hefty on the energy consumption in exchange. Still, I couldn't walk out of here without testing it at least once.

More blood flowed out until it turned into the shape of a chakram that spun at dangerous speeds midair. The difference was very obvious by how it was kicking up air, but it was also way harder to control.

"Slicing Quicksilver!"

Wooosh!

Crash!

I couldn't help but whistle as I watched the chakram rip through several trees like paper before splattering. It was not as good as Greater Hemokinesis alone due to the lack of speed, but it definitely had potential for blockbuster moves.

I don't even want to think about how unwieldy it would be to try and pull off a piercing blood with it.

Speaking of blood, I better get to my shift before granny beats to till I bleed with that cane of hers.

Do not underestimate her because of her size. That cane hurt no matter how you tried to defend against it.

『Hakari Kotaro』

Being a nurse was boring and annoying.

What else did you expect?

It was mostly sitting here and studying about the exams or playing with Hemokinesis while people came and went. Twisted ankles, burns, whatever. Nothing I couldn't treat, and if there was, it was my job to use Door Crossing to retrieve Recovery Lady from her tearoom.

Sports Festival on the horizon meant a lot of people beating the tar out of each other, and unlike Izuku, they did not have a healer on standby. At least thing kind of infirmary wasn't one you would dawdle in unless I had to perform surgery which I was uhh...

On paper, I'd be pretty good at it due to my intimate knowledge of biology and my ability to prevent people from bleeding out. But at the same time. I was NOT experienced in performing that stuff at all.

Eh, whatever. If I ever need to do it, I'll figure it out.

At least something to take solace in was that I had already gone through high school, so even if it could get a little confusion. It wasn't exactly unfamiliar ground.

Except history. Fuck history.

I grumbled while chewing on the but of my pencil trying to remember who was the American Vigilante Hero responsible for Code 67 becoming widely used before-

Knock! Knock! Knock!

I released a deep breath.

Whoever was at that door better be either dead or I will make sure they are.

"Recovery Girl-san~ are you there? Mirio-kun roughed up his nose while training too enthusiastically."

"Hahaha! It's nothing, though I'm pretty sure it is broken! And my arm is also bruised from getting caught in the tail end of Nejire's beam!"

Hearing a pair of voices I did not recognize, I lifted my head from the book and spun around to face the two new visitors.

The first was a tall boy that was built like a brick shit house holy shit. Dude was built like a mini-All Might with the face of Tintin, minus the awful red and blue nose. His exposed arms were also covered in scars that were somewhat like my own but less severe.

The second person caught my eye far more, it was a beautiful, dare I say almost angelic looking girl with blue hair that reached her calves and crystal like inquisitive eyes. She had an incredible dead drop figure that did not lose out to even the likes of Momo.

"Are~? You aren't Recovery Girl-san? Aren't you that freshmen that everyone has been talking that? Intimidating eyes, tall, muscular, and tired."

She didn't need to add on the tired part there.

"I'm Hakari Kotaro, first year and the Nurse Assistant, I got saddled with this job because of my healing quirks." I spun around in my chair to face them fully, my white coat making me look a bit silly. "You said broken nose and bruised arm right? Sit over there."

The guy, who I did not remember the name of but vaguely recalled the existence of put his hand on his hips and laughed loudly.

"Ah you're that freshmen! I'm Mirio Togata, your Senior! Nice to meet your Hakari-kun!"

"And I'm Nejiro Hado, also your senior! You said Quirks, as in plural right? That must mean the rumors are true since I heard the kiddies talk about you using claws and such things as well. Your hair looks like a lion's mane, is that a part of your quirk? Are you using a lion transformation right now? Are you?"

Without waiting for me to even respond, she stepped right into my personal space and grabbed a lock of my hair and inspected it curiously like a child would. So nonchalantly that even I, in my infinite stoicness felt a bit self-conscious.

"...Lion's mane? That's just how my hair normally looks." It doesn't look that messy right? Combs just don't agree with me, and Toga gave up trying to wrestle with it after a while, she herself was on the team that it looked pretty cool on me. "Anyways, yes, I can indeed use multiple quirks. I am just shy of 20 currently."

Her mouth gaped open, and she did not stop playing with my hair as she gasped in amazement.

"Woow~ incredible, I've never even heard of a quirk like that! That sounds so unique, can you grow horns? A tail? Can you manipulate gravity? Spit slime? Turn into lion?"

She got close with each word, making me back off with my back almost reaching the wall until I put a hand to my mouth and coughed.

"Ahem, I should probably heal Mirio-senpai first."

Man, she threw me off my game so bad I called the guy senpai.

She backed off with a tiny frown that suited a pout more than a genuine offense.

"Fine, I'll watch.'"

I shrugged my shoulders while Tintin sat down in front of me with an inscrutable expression.

"Wow, what an amazing quirk, it sounds like a very strong quirk Hakari-kun. No wonder you are the top of your class."

He exclaimed as I raised a hand and channeled Minor Cure and Minor Healing light towards his nose, fixing it slowly while I pursed my lips and thought back to Shigaraki.

"It is an amazing quirk alright." I moved onto his arm. "But a quirk with such potential does not mean anything if you cannot put in the work achieve that potential. It's a can of worms and I have to figure out what I can do with each worm. Otherwise, it is a mediocre quirk."

A multitool where you barely understood how to use each knife could only measure up to a normal knife that has been mastered, not surpass it. If I hadn't broken my ass off since I started, I would be in the grave, and I wouldn't be any better than the likes of Bakugou or Todoroki.

Of course, that does not mean the Chaos Gacha is not the embodiment of practically infinite potential, but potential is nothing if you cannot reach that potential.

Ask Megumi.

The moment I finished on his arms, Tintin looked at me with a new light in his eyes and Nejire looked pleased with herself.

"Right... you are so right, Hakari-kun! Indeed, even a strong quirk is useless if you cannot use it properly. Your words have gotten me pumped up to go even harder! Nejire, let's go!"

"Ehh? But I wanted to chat with Lion-kun some more." ...Lion-kun? "Fine, see you later! I'll definitely be back!"

With that, the two seniors left as suddenly as they appeared, making me question my reality.

A/N: Brother comes bearing gifts for hakari, they are a delight to write together for sure. Izuku has made Hakari harder than ever, quite literally thanks to Iron Skin. It is a great addition to Hakari's bag of tricks and perfectly complements his fighting style. It will definitely be fun to write.

What's that? A new face? Nejire Hado waltzes onto the scene baby! She is very fun to write and Hakari has absolute zero idea how to handle her at all, she is a complete anomaly for him and it is fun to write him being on the backpedal when interacting with someone for once. Did you guys like her introduction? I'd love to know.
