Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 : Detective Conan World!!

In the Detective Conan world.

Ren opened his eyes to a familiar ceiling. The sudden surge in his strength proved that everything that happened before was not a dream.

"Ren, why are you up so late today? Come eat," Miyano Akemi's voice called from outside the door.

After washing up, Ren walked into the living room, where Akemi and Miyano Shiho were already seated.

"Why so late?" Shiho asked, her tone questioning.

"Last night I was thinking about the next steps for artificial intelligence, seeing if it could actually be developed," Ren replied casually, giving an excuse.

"Artificial intelligence? That requires powerful data processing capabilities, otherwise it'll easily turn into artificial stupidity," Shiho answered seriously.

"Um, Ren, Shiho, I have no idea what you two are talking about. Can we just eat first?" Akemi looked completely lost. She would rather attempt another ten-billion-yen heist than follow this conversation.

"Oh." The two dropped the topic in unspoken agreement and accompanied Akemi through breakfast.

"Alright, time to head to the lab. Akemi, just stay home today," Ren instructed.

"Sis, Gin will only let you go once," Shiho said with quiet pleading in her voice.

"Do I look like the kind of woman who doesn't know the bigger picture? I'll stay inside," Akemi sighed.

"That damn man… to think he used my sister to join the Organization and nearly got her killed," Shiho muttered, her dislike for Akai Shuichi evident.

"At least you survived, Akemi. That's what matters most," Ren said with a faint smile. He knew that some time ago, Akemi had planned to rob ten billion yen to buy her sister's freedom.

Unfortunately, with the little reaper of death — Conan — present, failure was inevitable.

Before Akemi was shot, Ren had struck a deal with Gin, trading his newly invented lie detector to save her life.

With his invention, Ren helped the Organization weed out spies in its operations. In return, Gin spared Akemi — but she would live under the Organization's constant watch.

At home, any attempt to contact strangers on her phone would trigger a verification process that required Gin's approval.

If she wanted to leave the house, her phone's GPS tracking and audio surveillance would activate, and she would have to disguise herself first.

If either safeguard failed, a sniper would be dispatched to eliminate her immediately. It was, in effect, house arrest — though with Ren and Shiho living there, Akemi wasn't too lonely.

Ren's invention had also eliminated many undercover agents within the Organization.

The lie detector worked on two main principles: one was monitoring changes in a person's heartbeat, and the other was detecting hormonal changes in the body when lying.

If both readings failed, the person was confirmed to be an undercover agent with one hundred percent certainty. If only the heartbeat monitor failed, they would be observed further.

But if the hormone detection failed, the member would be executed on the spot — and not a single one was ever innocent.

The device was originally designed to monitor unconscious hormone changes in the human body.

Since it was the first time such an instrument appeared, it exposed many codenamed spies, which led to those involved being shot on the spot.

Of course, if the heartbeat monitoring showed someone was unqualified, Gin would kill them too—he was too lazy to wait and confirm.

Because of Ren's invention, Gin finally understood how many undercover agents were inside the organization.

His face darkened like the bottom of a pan.

The organization was full of holes, and any spy could slip in easily.

Now, he was busy investigating and clearing out the inside.

As for Miyano Akemi, after Ren made his request, Gin spared her for Ren's sake, but her fate was sealed—she was destined to be imprisoned.

In the laboratory, Shiho's biology lab was on the third floor, while Ren's research lab was on the fourth.

They only ate together; other than that, they spent most of their time in their respective labs.

It was hard to imagine they were a couple.

In reality, their fate started back in university.

Both were geniuses in the organization—Shiho in medicine, Ren in technology.

Then, during the billion-yen robbery case, Ren saved Akemi.

Though he never made a fuss about it, Shiho noticed.

The two, who already had feelings for each other, grew closer after the incident.

Everything naturally fell into place.

When one finally asked if they should try dating, the other nodded in agreement.

"Hello, Rain."

"Hello, how can I help you?"

"I need all the information about Conan."

"Okay."

Soon, all information about Conan appeared on Ren's screen, including his life story and details about Edogawa Conan seen in newspapers.

The system directly searched news, books, and all online sources for information related to Conan.

"This isn't enough," Ren frowned.

He thought of Sawada Hiroki, a leader in artificial intelligence who could even project human consciousness into game worlds.

Just then, the phone rang.

"Hennessy, what's the situation?" Gin's voice came through.

Ren instantly felt the air around him grow cold.

No wonder Gin was the coldest and most ruthless man in the organization.

Even the environment seemed to chill under his intimidating presence.

"It's done. The source files have been sent to you and the BOSS. You can make modifications directly," Ren said, unfazed by the other's intimidating aura.

"What's this improvement about? Just tell me the results," Gin's voice was calm.

"Keyword monitoring. Since full-time recording of conversations inside the organization caused issues during missions, we changed it to keyword-based. Whenever a member makes a call and triggers certain keywords, their conversation gets monitored. The scary part is, no one knows what the keywords are or which words will trigger them," Ren explained with a smile.

"Good. Did you set the keywords yourself?"

"No, I didn't. I'm just a researcher. I'm sure you're more familiar with this kind of thing than me," Ren replied straightforwardly.

"What's your next step?" Gin agreed with the plan, knowing only he understood which keywords the moles inside the organization would use.

"Next, I'm planning to work on artificial intelligence. About the keywords, I have a suggestion based on Conan's logic — if a certain numeric pattern is triggered, monitoring will also activate," Ren responded.

"Hmph." Gin hung up the phone.

"Phew, acting like a superior even though we're equals. I have to say, that's typical of the execution team — troublesome," Ren muttered as he continued his research.

"But come to think of it, my current strength seems pretty strong," Ren seriously thought about this, then gave up. Unlike the warriors in other worlds, he cared more about developing new things.

As for Conan, Ren never tried to approach him even once. He was truly a traveler who crossed into Conan's world but never sought out the main character.

After work, Ren left together with Miyano Shiho. Unlike before, they didn't control her movements, but arranged for some people to monitor her remotely.

Their phones also used the organization's latest system, making any suspicious actions difficult. Plus, with human supervision, even handwriting was impossible to slip by.

"What do you want to drink?"

"Just coffee," Miyano Shiho yawned.

"Suddenly remembered, let's go buy ingredients and make milk tea at home," Ren recalled his experience in the Akame ga Kill world.

"Make it ourselves?" Miyano Shiho was a little surprised. She didn't remember Ren knowing how to make milk tea.

"It's just a drink made by mixing ingredients in certain proportions. It's very simple for us," Ren said casually.

"Ah~"

At that moment, a sharp scream was heard.

"Shiho, let's go first," Ren's mouth twitched. The only bad thing about this world was that many people were mentally unstable and liked to kill over trivial matters.
