Chapter 177 - The Grinding Ravenclaws

While giving his lesson to the Ravenclaws, Victor suddenly became intensely curious about the physical structure of Dementors.

In the films, aside from their terrifying abilities, these bizarre creatures were never described in much detail. According to all the existing magical literature, Dementors aren't classified as magical creatures, and their non-biological appearance clearly indicates they aren't carbon-based life forms.

And so, out of sheer curiosity, Victor had a sudden idea to dissect a Dementor.

Without a second thought, he went for it!

As the Ravenclaws watched in shock, Victor used his hands to pry open the Dementor's circular mouth. He peered inside and, finding nothing of interest, proceeded to stick his hand in the Dementor's mouth and stir it around.

The Dementor, utterly subdued by the powerful Patronus Charm, couldn't even struggle. A strange silence fell over the entire Bronze Tree Palace.

"..."

"Wisdom Lord?!" a second-year Ravenclaw asked, poking Victor's arm with his wand.

But Victor didn't move, so the student poked him again.

"Hold on, don't distract me!" Victor waved his hand, signaling the student to leave him alone.

"What does it feel like, Wisdom Lord?" the student asked.

When they heard this, the first-year wizards looked horrified, their eyes wide as they stared at the second-year.

You weren't worried about him at all, were you?!

"Uhh... how do I describe it?" Victor pulled his hand out, a slight look of disgust on his face. "There's not much feeling to it. It's like sticking your hand into a pudding that's just come out of the fridge, and it's a bit sticky!"

"Speaking of which, does anyone want to come up and give it a go?"

With that, the Dementor's mouth was pried open a little wider.

When they heard there was a hands-on activity, the Ravenclaws who were already a little restless all raised their hands, scrambling to get a chance to try.

"Me!"

"I want to try!"

"Get back! It's my turn!"

The Bronze Tree Palace erupted into chaos. The new first-year students stared, dumbfounded, at the scene before them, asking themselves the three universal questions: Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to be doing?

"Alright, alright! Stop fighting, are you trying to start a riot?!" Victor's voice cut through the cacophony, halting the competition. "After we're done here, I'll hold the Dementor still, and you can each take a turn. Now, let's get back on topic!"

The lesson on Dementors continued...

"The current belief in the Wizarding World is that Dementors are invincible, but I'm here to tell you that this theory is absolutely wrong."

"In this world, if a creature can exist, it cannot escape the natural law of life and death."

"Then, Wisdom Lord, how can we kill a Dementor?" a student asked, raising his hand.

"I'll teach you two ways that you can manage," Victor said, and with a flick of his wand, a ball of purplish-blue Fiendfyre appeared in the air.

"Fiendfyre is one of the forces that can kill a Dementor. But remember this: normal Fiendfyre has no effect on a Dementor, like this."

With a command from his wand, the fireball shot toward the Dementor and dispersed, leaving the creature completely unharmed.

"The Dementor's body is a single entity, including its cloak. If even a small part of it is destroyed, it will quickly begin to disintegrate and die."

"So to kill a Dementor, you must learn to compress Fiendfyre and shoot it like a bullet, piercing a specific part of the Dementor."

As soon as he finished speaking, the re-formed Fiendfyre fireball shrank from the size of a basketball to that of a Golden Snitch. The high compression and concentration of energy made the fireball glow brightly.

With a wave of his wand, the fireball pierced the Dementor's body, and the pitch-black body began to slowly dissipate as the small hole grew wider.

In a short time, the Dementor that had been captured for the lesson was reduced to ash.

Scribble, scribble, scribble!

The Ravenclaws below were frantically taking notes.

Then, a student asked another question. "Wisdom Lord, how do we compress the Fiendfyre?"

"Do you remember what Professor Flitwick said? 'Magic is a reflection of every wizard's heart in reality.' If you can imagine it, you can do it," Victor replied, adding a reminder. "But when you practice the Fiendfyre Curse, you must first learn Finite Incantatem. If anyone accidentally burns down the Bronze Tree Palace or the common room, I guarantee I'll make them taste hell!"

Hearing these words, the Ravenclaws shivered.

Although they didn't know what the taste of hell was, based on Victor's previous devilish teaching methods, they could fully imagine the consequences.

And so, everyone present, except for the new students, made a silent promise to themselves: Never practice the Fiendfyre Curse in the common room or the Bronze Tree Palace!

This odd self-imposed rule, however, caused chaos throughout Hogwarts for a long time afterward...

Getting back to the lesson, Victor continued.

"The second way to defeat a Dementor is the Patronus Charm, which many of you know. This is the most powerful protective spell in the magical world and can repel Dementors. Listen carefully, repel, not kill!"

"That the Patronus Charm can repel Dementors is common knowledge. But few people know that if a Patronus Charm is powerful enough, it can also kill a Dementor!"

"However, achieving this is incredibly difficult. Right now, including myself, there are only two people in all of Hogwarts who can use a Patronus Charm to kill a Dementor. The other is Professor Dumbledore!"

With that, Victor summoned his Patronus, the Bifang, and also called Luna up to the stage.

The Ravenclaws watched them with curiosity...

"Luna, you first. Demonstrate by having your Patronus attack the Dementor," Victor instructed.

Luna nodded and, facing the Dementor, tilted her head cutely. She gently waved her wand. "Expecto Patronum!"

A wisp of silvery-white light slowly drifted from her wand and quickly transformed into a rabbit.

With a thought from Luna, her Patronus circled around her before leaping into the air and rushing straight toward the Dementor.

Like a stone falling into a pool of water filled with silver dye, the Patronus rabbit suddenly dissolved into streams of light upon hitting the Dementor. Even with Victor's restraints, the Dementor struggled frantically to escape but was not harmed at all.

"Luna's Patronus is an exceptional one, even among adult wizards. But even so, it can only do this much at the moment," Victor explained. "Now, I want you all to think about why the Patronus Charm makes Dementors afraid?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the students below began to chatter.

After a moment, a fifth-year Ravenclaw raised his hand and answered, "It's emotions! Dementors feed on negative emotions. To put it simply, a Dementor is a collection of negative energy, and casting the Patronus Charm requires concentrating and thinking of your happiest memory. That's why Dementors are afraid of a Patronus, because a Patronus is its complete opposite!"

"Bingo! That's exactly right!" Victor said, snapping his fingers in praise. "So, now that you know the principle, how can you give your Patronus the power to kill a Dementor?"

"We just have to imbue the Patronus with more positive emotions than the negative emotions the Dementor possesses to kill it!" a quick-witted student immediately answered.

"Exactly!" Victor nodded and looked at the girl beside him. "Luna, try again. This time, think of the scene from the train today when the Dementor tried to hurt your friends."

"Okay," Luna nodded and summoned her Patronus again.

She closed her eyes and recalled what had happened on the train. The Patronus rabbit in the air became more solid, and the holy light it radiated became more brilliant but not blinding.

A moment later, under Luna's control, the Patronus rabbit suddenly leaped into the air and, with the speed of an arrow, shot straight at the Dementor.

A silvery-white ripple of light spread like water. The Dementor didn't die, but it was visibly weakened.

"Well done, Luna," Victor reached out and affectionately stroked the girl's head before letting her return to the crowd.

"You all just saw it. To destroy a Dementor, your emotions must be powerful enough!" Victor said, and his own Patronus, the Bifang, which had been hovering beside him, suddenly flapped its wings, instantly turning the Dementor to dust.

Then, he captured a new Dementor and brought it into the Bronze Tree Palace.

"I'll leave this Dementor here. Feel free to come by and observe it in your free time. The more you look at it, the less you'll fear it. That will help you cast the Patronus Charm more effectively."

With that, Victor secured the Dementor in a corner for the students to study.

At the same time, no one at Hogwarts knew that outside the castle, the Ministry Aurors were sweating profusely as they tried to calm the Dementors that had gone berserk again.

Because just a moment ago, they had inexplicably lost one of their kind.

And why only one?

Because the Dementors could feel that the other one was still alive; it was just being used as a teaching tool in a certain room.

And so, as the night deepened...

The Slytherins were already asleep, the Gryffindors were snoring, and the Hufflepuffs were still sneaking snacks. But only the Ravenclaws were still in class...

The Ravenclaws' motto was: Ravenclaw, the highest tower! The farthest to the Great Hall, and no midnight snacks! Strive to be the Kings of Cramming at Hogwarts and outshine everyone else!
