Chapter 47 - Helena and the Acromantula

The Swooping Evil's massive venomous breath hit the Rho Aias shield, making no progress, and the scattered venom completely corroded the surrounding plants.

After more than a minute, Victor stood there, watching the Swooping Evil's blue-green venom become intermittent, and decided to stop wasting time and subdue it directly.

He clapped his hands and shouted, "Soul Contract!"

A massive golden magic circle instantly covered the exhausted Swooping Evil. A few seconds later, a small, blue-green, spiky cocoon lay in the center of the now-vanished magic circle.

Victor stepped forward and picked up the Swooping Evil, which had returned to its original state. The giant form it had taken earlier must have consumed a lot of its energy, so now it could only tightly wrap its body to slowly recover and was in desperate need of food.

Speaking of which, the Swooping Evil's favorite food is human brains, so what should I feed it? Victor was at a loss. He couldn't possibly kill people and dig out their brains for this little guy; he wasn't a zombie!

Just as Victor was worrying about his pet's food, an incomprehensible message suddenly came to him. He heard the Swooping Evil ask, "Master, can I eat your brain?" This question instantly made a few hash marks appear on Victor's forehead. I'm trying to solve your food problem, and you want to eat your master's brain?!

"Fine, I'll find some animal brains in the Forbidden Forest for you to eat later! And since you're all blue-green and you look like a girl, I'll call you Helena!" He chose this name because the Swooping Evil's butterfly-like appearance and the blue-green glow it emitted reminded him of the butterfly known as the most beautiful in the world, the Blue Morpho, also known as the Helena Morpho.

After giving his pet a name, Victor hung Helena around his neck and continued his journey into the Forbidden Forest.

As he continued deeper into the Forbidden Forest, Victor finally found the main target of his trip…

Perhaps the commotion from Helena earlier had scared away all the surrounding animals, so Victor walked for a long time without seeing any new magical creatures until much later when he suddenly heard some strange sounds.

"Hmm?!" Victor pricked up his ears and listened in the direction of the sound. He heard a series of rustling sounds coming from a distance. It sounded like a large number of them, possibly a group of reptiles, and they were constantly approaching him.

A guess suddenly formed in Victor's mind. He flew into the air and controlled a small light sphere to fly into the darkness in the distance. Under the light of the sphere, a large group of giant spiders covered in thick black hair continuously moved their long, slender legs and crawled out of the darkness.

"Aha! Acromantulas!" Victor happily pumped his fist. The main reason he came to the Forbidden Forest was to find Acromantulas. Before he came, he had gone to the Room of Requirement to get two standard 225-liter oak barrels, specifically for the Acromantulas' venom.

This stuff could sell for 100 Galleons per pint on the market, and it was often sold out. The price in the black market was even higher.

"Hehehe!! My little money, all of you, stay here!" Victor looked at the countless Acromantulas gathered under the light sphere. He waved his hands to his sides, and two crimson magic circles engraved with runes appeared in his palms.

"Fire Dragon Slayer Magic: Crimson Red Wall!"

A golden-red wall of fire instantly surrounded all the Acromantulas.

"Petrificus Totalus!" A huge grey magic circle then appeared and covered all the Acromantulas inside the wall of fire. In less than ten seconds, except for a very small number of stragglers, all the thousands of Acromantulas of varying sizes were petrified and scattered on the ground.

Victor took out a giant syringe from his pocket dimension. After sending out dozens of Thought Projections, he began to extract venom from these walking Galleons. Because there were so many of them and he wanted to follow the "sustainable development" principle, Victor only extracted venom from the adult-sized Acromantulas. He couldn't deal with the smaller ones.

A little over ten minutes later, Victor had successfully extracted approximately 226 pints of venom from this group of Acromantulas, which meant he had earned 22,600 Galleons in a very short time.

To be honest, this was faster than robbing Gringotts… Victor looked at the half-empty oak barrel and then at the Acromantulas around him. He knew where he could fill the barrels…

Victor first dispelled the light sphere around him, then he removed the spell from all the Acromantulas, and began to follow the spiders around the Forbidden Forest. He wanted to find the giant spider from the original story!

After following the spider group for a while, Victor was led by a dozen Acromantulas carrying food to a giant cave. At the entrance of the cave, countless Acromantulas were moving in and out like ants. This was undoubtedly the lair of the Acromantulas.

Victor flew into the cave at an extremely fast speed. He hovered in mid-air, looking at the mountain of animal bones and the dome-shaped webs below him. The air was filled with the stench of rotting meat and ammonia.

"Is that you, Hagrid?" In the depths of the cave, the master of the Acromantulas, Aragog, suddenly smelled a human and slowly crawled out from behind a giant rock, moving its bus-sized body. Its fur was now grey, and its eyes were a milky white from blindness.

"You're that person… what was his name…" Victor scratched his head as he looked at the giant spider in front of him. He had already forgotten the name of this Acromantula.

"You are not Hagrid…" Aragog said in a deep voice. "Human, you should not be here. I promised Hagrid not to eat humans, but my children do not have such good patience. But I can give you one minute. You can…"

Before Aragog could finish his sentence, a crisp snap of Victor's fingers echoed. A green magic circle appeared under his feet, followed by a green wave of light that spread out at an invisible speed. In the blink of an eye, all the Acromantulas were hit by the power of Stupefy and knocked out. At the same time, the younglings on the ceiling of the cave fell like rain.

"What did you say just now?" Victor asked teasingly.

"…" Aragog didn't respond. Although it was blind, it could still feel its surroundings. It slowly moved its huge spider legs, scratching white marks on the rocks, and tried to retreat.

"Come on, you don't really think you can get away from me, do you?!" Victor said irritably, and then he took out the half-empty oak barrel. "Don't worry, I won't kill you! But do you want to do it yourself, or should I do it?"

"…" Aragog silently walked to the oak barrel, opened its fangs, and began to inject venom into the barrel. It wasn't that it didn't want to resist; the power disparity was just too great!

After some time, Victor contentedly put the full oak barrel back into his pocket dimension, then sat down next to Aragog and casually asked, "By the way, what's your name again?"

To Victor, he only remembered this old Acromantula appearing once in the Chamber of Secrets, and he had long forgotten its name.

"Aragog. Hagrid gave me the name," Aragog answered, trembling.

"Hmm… Aragog, why can you talk?" Victor asked, not just out of curiosity. Even though Acromantulas are a 4X-class magical creature, they don't have the ability to speak, either in terms of their intelligence or their physical structure. So Victor wanted to know if there was a way to make magical creatures talk like humans from Aragog. If there was, he wanted to use this method on Helena.

But it was clear that Aragog's intelligence wasn't high enough to answer such a question. He just replied, "Hagrid taught me. It took a long time…"

"How did he teach you?"

"Just by talking."

"…I'll rephrase. How did you and Hagrid talk to each other?"

"We talked while eating venison."

"…"

After this conversation, Victor was speechless. It was clear that Aragog's intelligence wasn't very high, probably only equivalent to a ten-year-old child's, and he couldn't remember things from the past very well.

"Oh well, I'll just ask Hagrid about it," Victor said, getting up from the rock. He threw out the dozen wild bulls he had slaughtered for Helena and said to Aragog with his back turned, "Thanks for the venom. Here's your payment!"

After that, he walked out of the cave.
