Chapter 24 - The Holy Light in the Restricted Section

After hearing Penelope's explanation, Victor was dumbfounded. Wait, I told her the mirror was a reminder, not to stare at it! And even if Penelope did, why are all the other Ravenclaws doing the same thing? Are they all really just a bunch of weirdos?

Victor felt that if he didn't tell them how to fly with the Levitation Charm right now, the entire Ravenclaw House would remain in this strange state of learning until they figured it out for themselves. There was no way out of this. Victor sighed helplessly, having already decided to teach them the trick.

"You all want to know how to fly with the Levitation Charm?" Victor asked the students.

"Yes, yes!" the Ravenclaws nodded eagerly.

"Alright then, I'll explain it to you all in detail," Victor said, pulling out his wand and adopting a teacher-like persona. "Everyone, put your wands away. We won't need them for this lesson."

As soon as he said that, the students put away their wands and pulled out their notebooks and quills.

"Listen closely, I'll only say this once!"

"In this world, we have two pairs of eyes. The first pair is our physical eyes, the ones on our faces," Victor said, pointing his wand at his eye. "The eyes of the flesh see what is near, not far; what is in front, not behind; what is light, not dark."

"Our second pair of eyes is our mind's eye. This pair of eyes doesn't grow on our physical body but exists in our consciousness. Just as the Levitation Charm can only control objects within our sight, we can only feel our own body because of the existence of our mind's eye."

"Like this!"

With that, Victor touched the hand of a nearby Ravenclaw with his wand, and the student's entire body instantly went limp.

"Can you feel your body?" Victor squatted down and asked.

"No, I can't feel anything," the student replied, muffled, his face pressed against the floor. But he wasn't angry; his eyes were shining because he seemed to have understood what Victor was trying to say.

"Alright, you can get up now."

Victor patted the student on the shoulder, restoring control to his body, and continued. "To fly with the Levitation Charm, you must first learn to cast the spell wandlessly. After that, you must cast aside your previous understanding of the spell and no longer rely on your physical eyes to help you cast it."

"To be more specific, after you learn to cast it wandlessly, you must also learn to cast the Levitation Charm with your eyes closed. During this process, you must remember the feeling of making something fly, and then apply that feeling to yourself!"

"This is not easy, but it can be done if you put in enough time."

Victor looked around the common room and saw that at some point, the entire room had filled up with people. Many Ravenclaws had joined in to listen, some having just returned from dinner, others having run down from their dorms after hearing him speak.

"Does anyone not understand?" Victor asked.

"Victor, are you saying that we have to remember the feeling of casting the Levitation Charm and then apply that feeling to ourselves?" Penelope asked.

"Bingo! That's exactly it!" Victor nodded.

"Ohhh," the Ravenclaws said, finally understanding. Victor's lesson was over. He soon saw the Ravenclaws in the common room starting to practice wandless casting, and he let out a silent sigh of relief.

But then, he realized something. It felt like he had just stolen Professor Flitwick's job. Victor shook his head. He couldn't stay in the common room now, so he decided to take a stroll in the Restricted Section. He quietly left the common room with that thought in mind.

The Restricted Section was an area in the Hogwarts library on the fifth floor of Hogwarts Castle. The books in the Restricted Section were separated from the regular library books by a rope and typically contained information on dark magic or other topics unsuitable for young people or the general public. Older students might use books from this section for their Defence Against the Dark Arts classes.

To enter the Restricted Section, students had to have permission from a professor and present a signed note from them to borrow a book.

But for Victor, permission didn't seem to matter. He simply made himself invisible and slipped under the rope that divided the section. He looked around and saw a few older students walking around the Restricted Section, seemingly searching for the books they needed.

The Restricted Section was very complex and dangerous. In a way, it was one of the most dangerous places in Hogwarts Castle. It not only contained books on dark magic and hexes, which could have curses or spells attached to them, but also many unknown traps and hidden areas.

Victor had heard from a ghost that before Voldemort's rise, the entry requirements for the Restricted Section were not so strict. Back then, students in their fourth year and up could enter freely, and only those younger than fourth year needed a professor's permission.

But after Voldemort was seriously injured ten years ago, perhaps Dumbledore feared that another student with ill intentions would learn dangerous dark magic and his mind would be severely twisted. So, he raised the entry restrictions to the level they were at now and moved many books related to dark magic from the regular section into the Restricted Section.

This was why Victor had only been able to find books on things like History of Magic and biographies in the second-floor library.

After sneaking into the Restricted Section, Victor wandered between the bookshelves. He wasn't interested in books on dark magic and hexes because he had already mastered dozens of destructive spells and didn't need to waste his time on those.

Victor was looking for books related to curses. The reason he wanted to understand curses was because this type of magic was incredibly bizarre, essentially a form of causality weapon.

In the world he came from, magic was used either for combat or in service of combat, and its magical abilities were almost entirely focused on the power branch, which was why Victor was so incredibly powerful in a fight.

But in the world of Harry Potter, the magical abilities leaned toward the mystery branch. Within this mysterious magical system, no matter how powerful Victor was, he couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't run into a situation he couldn't handle.

The sky outside the library window had gone from a deep blue to a pitch black, and a thick layer of clouds was completely hiding the crescent moon. The library had been closed for a long time, and the lights were already out, but for a person who could do magic, reading in the dark was no trouble.

Victor had been in the Restricted Section for several hours, and it was almost midnight, but he was still holding a book on The Power and Principles of Curses and studying it. Just then, an incredibly jarring sound of a door opening suddenly interrupted his thoughts.

Was Filch patrolling the library this late?

Victor looked in the direction of the sound, but it seemed to be a student, not the caretaker, because they weren't carrying a lamp, and they were sneaking toward the Restricted Section.

Which little lion is out of bed and adventuring in the Restricted Section this late?

Victor was curious about the person who had just entered, but he didn't want to get involved and continued to read his book. But a moment later, he heard a bloodcurdling sound.

Victor's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately knew something was wrong. Not only was it the sound, but he also smelled a nauseating scent of blood in the air. The student must have been hurt in the Restricted Section!

Without a moment's hesitation, Victor dropped his book and ran to help.

Following the sound, Victor arrived at the deepest part of the Restricted Section. He saw the student standing stiffly in the darkness in front of a hidden door that had been opened. On the floor were shards of a glass bottle. The student's veins were bulging all over his body, and his eyes were completely black, all the white replaced with darkness. At the same time, a strange hissing sound, like that of a snake, was coming from his throat.

"What in the world?!" Victor was shocked and ran over to check on the student. When he got close, he was hit with a strong, pungent, bloody smell that made him want to vomit.

"Mate! Mate! Ugh!" Victor quickly used magic to block his sense of smell and tentatively shook the student's arm.

Something is terribly wrong! The student's arm felt like it was covered in scales and was a chilling, heart-stopping cold. The hissing sound coming from his throat was also getting louder. Facing this bizarre situation, Victor didn't know what had caused it, and he had no idea what to do to stop it from getting worse.

"I can't do anything for now; I'll have to seal him!"

With a clap of his hands, a giant golden magic circle covered the student, and the pattern of a fairy's wings in the center of the circle slowly began to spin.

"Fairy Sphere! Activate!"

A dazzling golden light lit up the entire fifth-floor library, penetrating out into the corridor and through the windows.

Meanwhile, Filch, who was patrolling in the corridor, was stunned as he watched the holy light dispel the darkness in the distance. After standing there for a moment in a daze, he quickly grabbed his lamp and ran toward the fifth floor.
