MHGA Chapter 231 – Blow Open a Steel Hatch for Smasher!
Amid Adam Smasher's taunting, two high-explosive shells—thrown from who-knows-where—detonated right in front of David.
He only had time to slightly raise his shield and shut his eyes—yet the sheer destructive force of the blast still seared his face badly. Even his angler eel helmet was shredded in the explosion. The melted helmet material fused with the burns on David's face, disfiguring him in an instant.
The shockwave struck David's head, leaving him dazed as he was blown out of the building by the blast. And Adam Smasher didn't intend to let him go that easily—he leapt right out of Konpeki Plaza after him.
As David tumbled backward, his mind went blank. Echoes of the explosions still rang in his ears. The sky itself seemed to flip into the ground… while a new sky—the earth—rushed toward him fast.
David snapped back to awareness with a jolt—realizing he was in free fall.
And Adam Smasher was accelerating downward with him, gravity on his side, aiming to stomp him into bloody pulp…
It reminded David, involuntarily, of how Rebecca died in Edgerunners.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"
With a roar, David twisted his body and flipped his stance mid-air, angling his Gunlance downward. He lifted his head and locked eyes on Adam Smasher above him.
He clearly remembered—he had just loaded the Gunlance not long ago.
Right now, the chamber held three shells and a Wyvern's Fire. The barrel had already cooled and was ready to unleash its most powerful burst.
"You ***ing Adam Smasher! You ***!!!" David cursed loudly and fired the Wyvern's Fire.
Designed to mimic a monster's breath attack, the Gunlance's built-in Wyvern's Fire unleashed a massive force after a short charge, halting David mid-air.
People inside Konpeki Plaza, already in a panic, clearly saw a monster-like figure hovering outside the building, wielding a massive shield and lance.
Then came the second burst—a charged Shelling blast—launching David upward like a reverse meteor streaking toward the falling Adam Smasher.
"ADAM SMASHERRRRRRRR!!!"
David screamed his name as he rocketed upward. Adam Smasher, seeing the oncoming challenger, responded without mercy—his modified body opening up as dozens of micro-missiles launched toward David in a swarm.
The next moment, David collided with Smasher mid-air. But with no additional propulsion left, David was ultimately overwhelmed—Smasher's downward strike slammed into his abdomen. Simultaneously, the swarm of missiles peppered David's body with continuous explosions.
As the two fell, engulfed in blasts, shockwaves shattered Konpeki Plaza's glass windows floor after floor. Screaming civilians ran for safety—only a few dared stay to watch from the windows.
With both combatants running Sandevistan, time slowed into a drawn-out duel… but to the onlookers, it looked like a chain of explosions cascading from the rooftop downward, devastating one whole side of the skyscraper.
With a thunderous crash, Adam Smasher stomped David straight into the parking lot below Konpeki Plaza. The reinforced concrete cracked under the impact, spreading webs of fractures from the crash site.
Jack, who had been watching from a nearby window, almost fell out as the glass burst. Fortunately, Rakuro Hizutome reacted quickly and grabbed him.
"Holy SHIT! That's insane!" Jackie gawked at the spiderweb-pattern crater below, swearing nonstop. "Dude! Is the guy fighting him even still alive?! Did they really fall all the way from the roof?!"
"Bro—that wasn't one of your people, was it?! He's not really dead, right?!" Jackie turned to Rakuro.
"Uh… probably not," Rakuro replied, unsure how to explain.
After all, even if a Hunter gets burned to ash, that rainbow-colored expert Palico can still drag them back to camp or base in perfect condition…
"Another piece of trash," muttered Adam Smasher.
He could feel it clearly—David's gut and spine had been crushed under his stomp. Like popping a balloon, the outer membrane was shattered, and everything inside spilled out…
The battle was over.
So thought Adam Smasher.
But when he looked down, something felt… off.
"Hah… the so-called Legend Killer of Night City," said David from the crater Smasher had smashed into the ground.
His breaths were shallow—barely more in than out. Yet with his right hand, he let go of the shield and raised a middle finger at Adam Smasher.
"Next time… I'll… beat you…"
Smasher narrowed his eyes. He lifted his foot, intending to crush David's skull.
But then he felt something behind him.
Between his two cybernetic legs—unnoticed until now—was a planted explosive Wyvernstake… aimed directly at his rear.
David's left hand had never let go of the Gunlance.
That middle finger? It had bought enough time.
The Wyvern's Fire—powerful but with a cooldown—had finished charging.
"Let me blow a hole in your mechanical ass… with my Wyvern's Fire!"
David, his face burned beyond recognition, forced a grin.
"You pile of scrap getting used by Arasaka!!"
Adam Smasher's cybernetic eye contracted violently.
But before he could move—
BOOM—BOOM————!!
Two back-to-back explosions erupted under Adam Smasher.
When Konpeki Plaza's security finally rushed to the scene, what they saw left them speechless.
The living legend of Night City… the mechanical tyrant… the battlefield meat grinder…
Now had a massive hole in the rear of his cybernetic lower body—blown open to reveal wires, circuits, and inner machinery.
