~Annalyn POV~
Blood still clung to Matteo's fingers, the copper tang refused to leave the air. My chest ached with a silent question I dared not voice: now that he killed the only man who might have known something, how were we supposed to find Lucas?
I spoke anyway, voice trembling, "Now that you've killed him, how do you want us to find Lucas?"
Matteo's smirk faded, his expression turned impatient, almost mocking. "Come on, Annalyn, he didn't know anything about Lucas. Do you think trash like that could hide something from us?"
But my throat tightened because his words offered no comfort. "So what do we do then? Enter the Black Wolves' territory and look for Armand? Do you even know how dangerous that is?"
Celix's eyes narrowed, his lips curving into a smile too calm to trust. "We can't do that, there are millions of them in there, waiting for a chance to tear us apart. But…" His tone deepened, playful yet chilling. "It seems I know how we can get that stupid Officer Leo."
