Lira: "I don't believe in luck young master."
Why would someone in this age would not believe in luck when I was at her age me and my friends were trying to pull gacha, trying to get lucky in a video game just because the characters were pretty or powercrept.
Gilbert: " Why? Is there any reason?"
Lira: "I think that even things we call coincidences are linked to another events and choices made by living in collectivity."
I can't deny her. She was telling the truth in a sense. If someone stopped you from crossing the road when a car was going as fast as it could, preventing you from hitting the car. Would you call it luck. Or if you decided to get one step back for no reason and suddenly a bird shit fell from above. Is it luck or is it the results of our own decisions.
It forced me to think about it for awhile. It was a type of question that we can never get straight answer from. Maybe luck was something influenced by our own actions. Maybe luck was something waiting us to grap and get it, not the other way around.
Gilbert: "You might be right?"
Nonetheless, I couldn't believe she was the same age as me. Well I'm techniquely an older college student but she sure uses a lot of complicated sentences for her age. What kind of life she had to endure I wonder. But I can understand the hard reality of having to mature at a young age.
I wanted to keep my parents together. Only god knows what lira had to endure to get here. It wasn't something that should happen to any child. If only...
Lira. "Young master. Please come, we are close to where we can eat."
Yeah we were going all this road to eat something, I was lost in my thoughts for a bit and I even forgot I was getting hungry. I must admit that all this thinking was even making me hungrier.
Gilbert: "Okay Lira. Let's go."
I said as I continued following her. These city was sure interesting in many ways. I am going to solve everything about this city, together with this world itself. I can't contain my excitement if it is filled with this much determination.
I wonder where she is taking me, I was imagining delicious meals that are special to this world while thinking about the question. Though most of the stuff I could come up with was the made-up meals from the video games I played before.
Lira: " We are almost there young master."
Just where is this place. I was walking for at least half an hour. While I was wondering, she stopped in front of a shop.
Lira: "This place young master."
I looked at the shop from outside. It felt like your typical small business restaurant. I lifted my head. " Laura's marine flavor" was written on the shop's sign. Honestly… With all my thoughts. Who the fuck even came up with the name idea?! It sounds ridiculous! There's no one in the whole earth that will think of coming in shop after seeing this, not a chance.
Lira: " Young master. This place may look small but they have the best marine food in the whole Aetherium."
I can pretty much understand the marine part but being tasty is questionable after that kind of naming. But whatever… I lose nothing by trusting her. I was thinking about some kind of tavern but we were in this age. Already developing and a new class recently started to rise. It wasn't an isekai adventure I could get my hands on a sacred sword to slay the magic lord dragon.
In fact nothing seemed like a fantasy I could imagine before. I wonder if someone wrote a book resembling this world. Even if there were I doubt it could sell well. People like to read their fantasies not an imaginary world where they could feel no different.
Lira: "Let's enter the restaurant young master"
I gulped before entering. I rely on you on this journey my stomach, please do not abandon me today. I folded my hands together, looked up to let the gods hear my prayer. If I am going to die today let it be at least by the hands of a beautiful woman. Whatever god exist here. Please hear my prayers, I beg you. Do not let me die in a foreign world!
Lira opened the door. I hesitated to walk in a little bit, holding myself back. I thought a lot about going back and convincing lira to choose another restaurant. But regardless of my actions, I probably can't convince her otherwise. I had no other choice but to go in.
Behind the door there was a humble looking shop owner, some desks for guests, a counter and a door behind probably leading to a kitchen. The space inside the shop felt cozy.
Shop owner: "Welcome! I have 2 free seats. One is near the windows and one is in front of the painting. Where would you like to sit sir."
He was quite a bald man, wearing an apron with full of probably oil stains on it. Other than apron he was wearing casual clothes, with brown sleeves and dark trousers. But he seemed like just as humble and kind as his shop was. Greeting guests with a warmth smile and giving them the freedom of choice. It all was the elements of why his restaurant feels so safe like home
I gazed my eyes at the places he pointed out. The painting he mentioned was a mediocre one. A knight was pointing out his sword to the sky as a white light was falling towards his swords. The Dragon was desperately standing in front of ruins, while having scars.
It sure looks like a old classic fantasy with full of cliche's, nothing I've never seen before. On the other had, The evening light coming from window was making a quite relaxing and enjoyable scenery. It looked like the perfect spot for a date. Too bad I'm with my personal maid, Lira right now.
Gilbert: "We would like to take the seat near the window please."
Shop owner: "As you wish mister."
While we were going for the seat, the owner came with us to help us take our seats. Before going back he handed us the menu. I did not expect to be menus in restaurants, I must admit. I grabbed the menu in curiosity. I wanted to see what was in the menu.
Lira: "Young master."
She grabbed my attention before I could see the ingredients.
Gilbert: "Yes, Lira."
I wondered what she is going to say.
Lira: " You thought, this place has a weird name right?"
What? How could she?
Gilbert: "What? No I didn't."
What are you? A mind reader? Where did she come to that conclusion. I thought I was pretty good at hiding my emotions and thoughts.
Lira : "You made that kind of judging face. Young master."
Are you serious, she is reading me like a book. Wait...Was she reading me this whole time. How much does she know. She doesn't think of me as an alien, I hope. Otherwise I would be forced to explain every...
Lira: "Young master. I actually am able to use mind-reading magic."
What?.. Is she really? Impossible. She can't know everything, right? Did she tell my parents? If she didn't I can't let my mask to be revealed. I know nothing about this world. What if they leave me on streets. Or worse... What if they kill me for possessing their son's body. What should I do? Should I interrogate her? Maybe I should take zero risks and then...
