Caelion's eyes lifted briefly toward the clear sky. He smiled and turned back to look at Vaelric. "Because word travels strangely in our circles, and not always by speech. As for your... little journey through the River of Memories..." He glanced sideways. "I became aware of it because word reached me."
Vaelric frowned. "Word? From whom?"
"The God of Time and Space."
Vaelric's footsteps halted once again. "The..." He blinked. "...there is a God of Time and Space?"
"There is." Caelion's expression remained perfectly composed. "He governs the currents through which past, present and future flow. The River of Memories lies within the boundaries of his authority."
Something about the ease of that answer threatened to unmoor what remained of Vaelric's certainty. He huffed a disbelieving breath and paced two steps away, then back again.
