Chapter 9 - System Online

Xavier lay on the wet ground, not moving. Just staying there in silence. Where was he? He didn't know. Then he remembered. Dennis said something about Carragis. That must be where he was.

No use crying over it, He thought. He groaned and picked himself up. He looked around. This place was just like the dungeons he had seen in anime and animations. Dark, grimy, and eerie.

The walls were slimy and etched with blue substance that smelled like blood. Jagged rocks hanging above, sharp and deadly. Rainwater was pouring from the ceiling. Insects crawled over the walls, and Xavier noticed a reptilian-like animal crawl into a hole in a small boulder.

"Monsters should be here." He muttered. "I'm really going to die."

Suddenly, a loud chime sounded in his head, making him wince in pain.

[Ding! Host Detected.]

[System initialising....]

[Error!!!! Error!!!]

[Rank too low for the system.]

[Recalibrating...]

[Rank changed!]

[F>SSS!]

[System initialising....]

[System online!]

Xavier stared at the notifications in his face, his face in shock.

"Unreal." He whispered in shock.

[Good day, Host. Welcome to the Summoning System. It has been activated to allow you to fulfill what you desire.]

"Okay." Xavier nodded.

[Please will you open your stats?]

Xavier took a deep breath then imagined it showing.

[Summoning System Online!]

[Stats]

Level: 1

Strength: 16

Stamina: 15

Speed: 20

Endurance: 17

Xavier looked at his stats. Basically, he had the idea of what was going on. He had read some light novels that had portrayed this. He also worked out so his stats were a big better.

"System?" He asked. "How do I increase my stats?"

[By completing daily quests and long-term missions. You can also increase your level by eliminating potential threats.]

Xavier wiped through soil that streaked to his face. It was just like he had expected. He could get stronger by fighting. Nobody had this golden finger. Only he was going to maximise the use of it.

He was going to get stronger and when he was done, he would give his revenge. Whatever it takes.

"System?" He called out. "My ability is summoning, right? That means I can summon beasts, right?"

[Incorrect. You're not summoning beasts.]

Xavier was confused. "Then what do I summon?"

[Ding! Newbie gift package available]

[Do you wish to open. Y/N]

"Yes," Xavier answered in his mind.

[Ding! Gift Opening]

[Zenrokushu Gauntlets(D-rank), Burning Lion Shield(B-rank]

Xavier stared at the notification in surprise. "Wait, are those weapons?"

[Yes host. The system has been created to summon ancient weapons from different dimensions. The higher you level up, the more powerful weapons you summon. You also gain weapons from completing quests and missions.]

"Alright," Xavier spoke, agreeing. "How can I equip it?"

[The weapons are in your inventory. Please will the inventory and it will open.]

Xavier did as he was told. A holographic image appeared in front of him. He clicked on the Gauntlets that were in the image. Xavier gasped as the gauntlets appeared on his hands.

They were red in colour, big but they fitted his hands very perfectly. The gauntlets were etched with intricate yellow symbols, and they pulsed gently.

"Who created them?" He asked the system.

[Zenrokushu Gauntlets were created by a famous warrior known as Dabiri Zenrokushu of the extinct planet known as Phorous. The fanatic warrior detested using swords and spears to fight, as was the custom here on the planet. In a burst of imagination, he created the gauntlets as he preferred hand-to-hand combat.]

"Then why is it D-rank?" He asked.

[This weapon is not as powerful as the other weapons that will be summoned as you get stronger.]

Xavier flexed his hands and stretched. His system was meant for him to get stronger. He needed to test these gauntlets and figure out their ability. He also had the shield waiting for him.

He had also forgotten that the dungeon was waiting for him. He needed to get out. If he wanted to be strong, he needed challenges. And challenges won't be much in this dungeon.

He took a deep breath and began to move deeper into the dungeon. He couldn't see clearly but it was far better than not seeing at all.

"It's time to move." He said to himself as he walked in the darkness.
