Chapter 40 - A Page Just for You, Chris

Hey Chris,

I wrote this page as a small reminder from the past—just to see if you remember. Maybe it'll help you find a little piece of yourself too.

Do you remember…?

That one argument we had, when you raised your megaphonic voice and said,

"Don't argue with me."

That exact sentence stuck with me.

It became a part of me.

Congratulations, Chris. You gave me a mini trauma.

It's been 18, maybe 19 years… and I still hear that sentence like it was yesterday.

Do you remember the time you suddenly crashed your red car into another from behind?

I was there.

You tried to send me home, but I insisted on staying.

I even went with you to the mechanic.

And what about that time your roommate was dating a career-driven woman, and you said,

"He doesn't even like her—he's just with her for status."

We gossiped so much together, didn't we?

Do you remember the night I wanted to stay in a hotel even though we had a house?

We booked a room.

It was a hotel that started with the letter "M."

We spent the night there.

Do you remember the photo I took near your place?

I was wearing a blue T-shirt and glasses.

You always said that was your favorite picture of me.

Every time you visited, you reminded me,

"If neither of us gets married by 35, let's marry each other."

Now that I think about it… I believe you got married around 33 or 34.

Do you remember how attached you were to your sister?

How much you loved my cooking?

How you gave your red car a funny name?

How much you loved reading books?

How intellectual you tried to seem?

In my eyes, back then…

You were the most charismatic, the sexiest, the coolest man in the world.

Did you never feel how deeply I loved you?

More than you ever loved yourself?
