Sakura, Shikaku Nara, Choza Akimichi, Inoichi Yamanaka, Kakashi Hatake, and Shisui arrived at the border dividing line. Might Guy was training hard back at the camp, determined to recover the youthful moments he had missed recently, so he didn't come along.
"This is it," Shikaku Nara stopped walking. "Going past this point would mean crossing into enemy territory! If we step over the line, it'll be our fault should a war break out."
"The night sky is unusually clear tonight—perfect for watching meteors!"
Sakura took a deep breath. Purple and red energy coiled around her right hand. As she slowly lifted her right arm, Kakashi and the others around her tensed up, sensing imminent danger.
"I found it."
A few seconds later, Sakura's eyes flashed with a glint of sharpness. She tightly clenched her fist and swung her arm forcefully downward.
Shikaku Nara and the others looked up toward the sky, wanting to see the results for themselves. They didn't have to wait long before several brilliant streaks of light lit up the sky.
"With so many meteorites falling all at once, areas hundreds of miles wide will be destroyed. Hurry and get everyone ready to evacuate immediately."
Shikaku's face turned pale with fear. A small meteorite wouldn't be much of a problem, but so many falling together definitely would affect Konoha as well.
"Don't worry, Uncle Shikaku. I've already made preparations. The meteorites' size will shrink considerably after friction in the atmosphere, and I've also limited the damage they'll cause when they fall—I promise Konoha won't be affected!"
After explaining, Sakura waved off his concern and shouted toward the Cloud Village camp.
"Yugito, hurry out and make a wish on the shooting stars! You might just find your dream guy sooner than expected!"
"You damn brat—who wants to find their dream guy by wishing on a star?!" Yugito angrily roared from inside the Cloud Village camp. Like hell anyone wanted to wish for a boyfriend by watching meteors!
Chapter 35 – Cloud Village Concedes [Third Update]
Above, the sky grew increasingly brighter as the fire caused by the meteorites' atmospheric entry caught the attention of everyone.
"That doesn't look good—it's meteorites! Meteors are falling straight toward us!"
The Cloud Village headquarters burst into chaos. At first, people thought the lights across the sky were just ordinary meteors, but as time went on, the meteors kept growing larger and brighter before their very eyes. Finally, everyone realized the horrifying truth—the meteors were directly plunging toward them.
"Damn it! Why did meteorites suddenly start falling?"
Fury painted Yugito's face green. If all these small meteorites hit, every ninja gathered near the border line would be dead.
"Get ready! I'll use [Tailed Beast Ball]s to attack—I've downsized them to limit collateral damage. We must destroy all the meteorites before they hit the ground. Then other ninjas can finish off the smaller fragments afterward—let's minimize the damage as much as possible."
Matatabi lost her cool too. While Tailed Beasts could indeed regenerate, the sensation of death felt painfully real. She wasn't one to enjoy dying just for kicks.
"Okay."
After barking out orders and issuing a few commands, Yugito immediately activated her tailed beast transformation. A massive monstrous beast appeared at Cloud Village's campsite—primarily blue in color with black flame-like patterns across its body, revealing itself as Two-Tails Matatabi in her transformed state. Behind it, two tails twitched restlessly, stirring up gales of wind.
As Yugito entered her tailed beast form, other Cloud ninja sprang into motion as well, rushing to their designated positions and bracing for an instant counterattack.
"Here it comes!"
Once the meteor descended low enough, Matatabi gave a warning shout before gathering a large amount of chakra within her mouth. Soon, a small black chakra sphere formed—a compact version of the Tailed Beast Ball. Though weaker than a full-powered Tailed Beast Ball, it used far less chakra and allowed her to rapidly fire multiple shots.
The dark-colored Tailed Beast Ball shot forth, flying straight toward the incoming meteor. As soon as the two collided, an intense explosion erupted. The small meteor shattered instantly, its shockwave strong enough that Sakura and the others could feel the shockwave all the way over there.
Matatabi continuously gathered one miniature Tailed Beast Ball after another, rapidly aiming and firing at the meteors. However, despite Yugito's ability to achieve complete tailed beast transformation while cooperating with Two-Tails Matatabi, Matatabi's chakra reserves were limited. Unlike Eight-Tails or Nine-Tails, she couldn't keep launching Tailed Beast Balls indefinitely. After creating over a dozen of them, Matatabi had completely exhausted her chakra supply. Most of the meteors had been blasted apart, and the remaining fragments were destroyed by other ninjas' attacks—but now only one meteor was left, hurtling straight down.
"Yugito, sorry about this, but my chakra is no longer sufficient to create more Tailed Beast Balls!"
Matatabi apologized regretfully, her voice already showing signs of exhaustion. Although Tailed Beasts possessed large chakra reserves that regenerated faster than humans', such efficient and frequent use of so many Tailed Beast Balls was simply too draining. If given a bit of time to recover, she could keep going—but now the meteor was right on top of us. There was no time left.
"No problem. We should be able to handle this last one," Yugito replied quickly, panting heavily. Matatabi's heavy chakra consumption had placed a significant strain on her as well.
Looking up at the fast-approaching meteor, Yugito's face hardened with tension. It was true that Cloud Village specialized in Lightning Release techniques, but most Cloud ninjas preferred combining Lightning Release with swordsmanship or Taijutsu—close-range fighting styles. Effective long-distance attack options were limited, making it quite difficult to destroy a rapidly descending meteor. Moreover, the ninjas stationed at the Front Lines here weren't particularly strong, increasing the challenge significantly.
"Wait a second—the impact point of this meteor isn't directly inside the camp!"
Matatabi suddenly shouted just then.
"Yugito, get someone to use Earth Release and protect the Camp — a meteor's about to hit nearby! Just block the shockwave after impact, and we'll be fine!"
