Chapter 2 - chapter 2

Kaitlyn

Noctis was what they called it. A far away land where their people lived in isolation and said to have tremendous wealth and power. There were other rumours, saying the place was a dead man's land with darkness while others said the people there weren't even human. As they arrived at Alucard's manor, it wasn't as she expected. It was like they were in the middle of nowhere, a vast land of green and tulips. Surrounded by tall dark walls was the manor. It looked old with grey walls and dim lights. Yes it looked eerie but it wasn't exactly as the rumours said.

" This isn't what I expected." Kaitlyn said. Theresa nodded in agreement.

" I do love the tulip field." Theresa said.

" It is beautiful. It's quiet and old, the manor doesn't look so bad." Kaitlyn said.

" My lady?" A man spoke. She had seen him around Alucard and he didn't look like a maid. He was Lean with silver hair, his peculiar eye colour caught her attention. It was a very light shade of blue, it almost looked white.

What is it with these people and fascinating eyes? She thought.

" This place is pretty quiet for a kingdom, I expected a more populated region."

" We aren't in the kingdom now, your grace, we are on the outskirts of the Noctis, this is one of the lord's manors. He says we will stay here for a few months before he finally takes you to Noctis." The man explained. Kaitlyn's brows furrowed in confusion, why stay here for a few months, she wondered. She looked back at the man and smiled politely,

" Thank you. I did not get your name, are you a relative of Alucard?" she asked. A shocked expression crossed his face for a second but went so quickly. He smiled politely and shook his head.

" No your grace, I am Salvador, lord Alucard's adviser." He bowed his head slightly and she returned the gesture.

" The maids are done settling your things, we may go in now." Salvador said and led them in the manor.

The inside was as expected, nothing fancy. Plain grey walls and old paintings, the furniture and lights looked new, maybe recently arranged. It wasn't pretty, but it wasn't ugly either. After a quick detour, Salvador showed her to their room. The inside left her dazed. It was completely different from the other parts of the manor. The walls were painted white with navy blue curtains. The floors were covered in maroon coloured rugs which matched the furniture. The large king sized bed was covered in navy blue and maroon sheets and blankets. There was a white wall paper on the walls behind the dresser and in the bathroom. It had a beautiful embroidery of her favourite flower, cornflowers.

She gasped at the beauty of the room and turned to Theresa who also had the same expression.

" I see you're pleased with this room, My lady." Salvador said from the door.

" Yes I am, it's very beautiful. And it smells good too." Kaitlyn smiled, the sweet scent of fruits dazed her.

" The lord made sure it fits perfectly with your taste." Salvador said. His words made her silent for a second. How did he know my favourite flower and colours?, Was it a coincidence? She wondered.

" Theresa will be taken to her room now" he said, Kaitlyn frowned in confusion.

" I thought she'd be staying here with me."

" Oh no, this is the master's bedroom, for you and lord Alucard."

Kaitlyn's heart raced in realization. Of course she was going to have to stay in the same room as he was, they were married. Unfortunately. Theresa smiled at her,

" I'll just drop my things my lady and we'll get you out of that gown." She smiled and nodded before Salvador led Theresa out of the room.

She kept herself busy, walking around the large bedroom and acknowledging the beautiful colours and embroidery. The fact that everything was exactly as she liked still bothered her.

Maybe he's just trying to buy me in some way, she thought. She walked to the tall glass door that led to the balcony. There was a small couch by the side next to the railings with a small table. The view from the balcony overlooked the tulip field and beyond. She noticed a small town in a far distance, relieved that they weren't in the middle of nowhere after all.

As she took in the view, she thought of home, her father and Julian. She still felt heavy in her heart that she didn't end up with him. Her fingers grazed a charm bracelet on her wrist, it was a gift from Julian on her birthday last year. It reminded her of his presence and a thought came to her head.

Maybe I should write to him?, he might be able to get me out of this.

She wondered for a while before Theresa came in.

After a warm bath, she decided to go for a tour of the house with Salvador.

" Are you sure you're not tired, My lady? The manor is pretty big." Salvador asked.

" I'm fine, I can manage. Where do we start?"

" There's a large garden at the back, I hear you like gardens." He suggested. Kaitlyn smiled and nodded. She wondered how he knew that.

He led her to the side of the manor, the field looked even larger from that angle. There was a small ranch with a few horses grazing at the side. They followed a small path which led to the garden. It was a large space filled with only flowers of different kinds, some she hadn't seen before. She stood with her lips parted in awe at the beauty of the place.

" Let's go in for a closer look?" Salvador asked.

" Yes, please."

Kaitlyn couldn't help but smile at all the flowers inside, especially her favourite corn flowers.

" How did you know I loved flower gardens?" She asked.

" Well, the lord insisted we got this information from your father. Prepping the garden was part of making the place comfortable enough for your liking." He explained.

Kaitlyn felt surprised at that information, she wondered if that was how he knew her favourite colours too. She scanned through the garden and noticed it was mostly filled with cornflowers.

He went that far?, she thought. She smiled at the thought of him going the extra mile just to make her comfortable, she felt grateful.

She made her way through the garden and decided she'd visit everyday.

After a quick tour of the ranch, it was dinner time, but she had no appetite.

" Are you sure you're not hungry?" Theresa asked,

" Yes, I'm fine. I just want to sleep now." Theresa nodded and helped her in bed and she dozed off, wondering how her life would be from that moment.
