Of course, Ye Chen wasn't doing this out of guilt. If Xiao Yan weren't the so-called "Son of the Plane", protected by fate itself, he wouldn't have gone through all this trouble.
"Hmph. Even without you, I doubt Nalan Yanran would've stayed engaged to Xiao Yan much longer," Ya Fei said with a little snort. "She's always been proud. How could she possibly marry someone the whole city calls trash?"
She let out a small sigh and added, "You're too soft-hearted, Brother Ye Chen."
Ye Chen chuckled quietly. Soft-hearted? That was a new one.
Many people thought that of him lately. But deep down, he knew better. He wasn't doing this to be kind. He was simply being cautious. With someone like Xiao Yan, who had the protection of the heavens, it was smarter to avoid unnecessary trouble. This approach—quiet and respectful—wasn't weakness. It was strategy.
Still, he didn't correct her. If she wanted to think he was gentle and kind, that was fine. Sometimes, a harmless image was the best disguise.
"Really?" he smirked. "Someone once said I'm anything but kind…"
Before Ya Fei could ask what he meant, he suddenly leaned forward and pushed her down onto the soft couch beneath them. His body hovered over hers, eyes sparkling with mischief.
"You're asking to be teased again, aren't you?" he murmured with a wicked grin.
Ya Fei rolled her eyes, her cheeks turning pink. She gave his chest a soft push. "Stop it. I'm serious, Brother Ye Chen. I… I really can't go another round…"
Her voice dropped into a whisper, sweet and pleading.
Seeing the tired yet flustered look on her face, Ye Chen finally let her go. He gently pulled her back into his arms, and the two of them simply held each other in quiet comfort.
Later, they bathed together, their bodies entwined in the warm water. No more teasing—just the gentle intimacy of two people who knew each other deeply. They didn't leave the room until the sun had already begun to dip below the horizon, casting an orange glow across the windows.
By the time Ya Fei returned to her office at the auction house, it was already late afternoon. She walked in looking fresh but slightly tired, her steps a little slow.
On her desk, a stack of elegant gift boxes was neatly arranged.
"What's all this?" she asked, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
A steward stepped forward and respectfully explained, "These were delivered by the noble guests attending tonight's auction, Miss Ya Fei. They heard you were feeling unwell, so they sent these tonics and herbal supplements to help you recover."
Ya Fei blinked. Unwell?
She immediately understood the misunderstanding. No doubt word had gotten out that she hadn't shown up earlier in the day—and now everyone assumed she'd fallen ill.
Before she could respond, the door opened and Master Gu Ni walked in with a teasing smile on his face.
"Miss Ya Fei, you've finally decided to show up," he said with a chuckle. "Did you forget there's an auction tonight? We were starting to wonder if you were avoiding us."
Her face turned bright red.
Forget? Not at all.
But after what Ye Chen had put her through earlier… she had barely managed to walk straight, let alone prepare herself to host an auction.
Fighting to suppress her embarrassment, she quickly composed herself and reached into her sleeve, pulling out a sealed envelope. She handed it to Gu Ni with steady hands.
"Master Gu Ni, please deliver this to the Xiao family. It's a personal invitation—from me."
Gu Ni raised an eyebrow in surprise. "A direct invitation from Miss Ya Fei? That's quite rare. I'm sure the Xiao family will be flattered—maybe even a little shocked."
Ya Fei said nothing. Her gaze drifted out the nearby window, where the golden sky was beginning to fade into twilight. The soft lights of Wutan City began flickering on, one by one.
Change was coming.
And she had a feeling this little city—quiet, simple, often overlooked—was about to be swept into something much bigger.
Whatever happened next… Wutan would never be the same again.
Ye Chen pulled his lips from hers, trailing slow, burning kisses down the curve of her neck. His breath was hot against her skin, teeth grazing just enough to make her shiver.
"Ah! Ye Chen-!" Her fingers tightened on his shoulders, nails pressing into his skin.
"You like that?" His voice was a rough whisper, teasing yet possessive. He lingered at the base of her throat, lips sealing over her pulse point in a slow, deliberate suck.
Her breath hitched, back arching off the bed. "Y-Yes! Don't stop-!"
A dark chuckle rumbled in his chest as he marked her skin-gentle yet claiming. His tongue soothed the spot before he lifted his gaze, eyes blazing with hunger.
"You're mine."
His hands slid up her body, fingers tracing the curves hidden beneath the thin fabric of her dress. The heat of his touch seared through the material, drawing a gasp from her lips.
"Ye Chen-!"
With a sharp tug, the fabric gave way, baring her to his heated stare. The cool air made her shiver, but his hands -rough yet worshiping-chased aw? any chill.
"Perfect," he growled, fingers kneading, thumbs circling in slow, torturous motions.
She cried out, back bowing as pleasure shot through her. "AH! RIGHT THERE!"
His mouth descended, lips sealing over one peaked bud, tongue flicking in relentless strokes.
"OH! F-!" Her words dissolved into a moan, hips lifting off the bed.
Ye Chen groaned against her skin, teeth grazing just enough to sting before his tongue soothed the ache. His free hand continued its torment, pinching, rolling-driving her wild.
"So sensitive," he rasped, watching her writhe. "Every touch... every sound you make-it's all for me."
She panted, skin flushed. "B-Because you-AH!-know exactly what you're doing!"
A smirk curved his lips before he switched sides, lavishing the same attention on her other breast. His mouth was relentless-sucking, licking, biting just enough to make her gasp.
"HARDER!" she begged, fingers raking down his back.
He obeyed without hesitation, pulling her deeper into his mouth, fingers twisting in tandem.
"YES! YES! DON'T STOP-!" Her cries rose, legs trembling violently beneath him.
"You love this," he growled, pausing just to watch her fall apart. "Love when I take what's mine."
"Y-Yes! Please-more!"
With a dark laugh, he squeezed her curves, tongue dragging over both peaks at once.
"Then let me hear you."
