Just like its name suggested, Flygon's appearance was quite similar to a dragonfly, but it was definitely not an insect. It was a genuine Dragon-type Pokémon.
Most of its body was a light green color. It had two green antennae on its head and two pairs of green, red-rimmed wings on its back. Its long tail was divided into eight segments, alternating between light green and dark green. Because it mostly lived in dry, hot areas, its eyes were covered by red, dome-like shields to protect them from the sand.
Since it wasn't a native Pokémon of Kanto or Johto, Natsui didn't know much about it. He took out his Pokédex and aimed it.
Pokédex:"Beep. Flygon, the Mystic Pokémon. A Ground- and Dragon-type. Flygon whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings and hides itself in the middle. Because it is always flying in a sandstorm, it is rarely seen by people. Sometimes, it lets Krookodile hide in its sandstorm to share the prey they catch. It is said that the sound of its flapping wings sounds like a beautiful woman singing, which is why it is also called 'The Desert Spirit.' Any prey mesmerized by this sound will be drawn into the sandstorm and become its food, leading to many people getting lost in the desert."
Putting away the Pokédex, Natsui looked at the large dragonfly-like Pokémon and rubbed his chin, clicking his tongue. From that description, this thing was a high-level hunter. Not only did it team up with other Pokémon, but it also used sound to set traps and lure in its prey. No wonder it had "dragonfly" in its name; not only did it look similar, but its habits were also very insect-like. After all, insects were far more ruthless than humans or animals.
Since this wasn't an official match, there was no referee. As soon as both Pokémon were ready, the battle began.
Flygon flapped its thin wings rapidly, lifting its nearly two-meter-long body into the air. Dragonite, not to be outdone, also flapped its small wings and flew up to face it. Without any commands from their trainers, the two Pokémon were already locked in an aerial battle.
If the fights against Sunny and Santos were just appetizers, then the battle against Monica was the delicious main course. The intensity of the battle and the strength of the Pokémon were on a completely different level.
"Flygon, use Supersonic!"
"Dragonite, use Safeguard!"
Flygon's Supersonic was a sound wave attack that could confuse its target. To counter it, Natsui had Dragonite use Safeguard, which created a protective barrier against status conditions. The visible sound waves of Supersonic passed over Dragonite, but thanks to Safeguard, it was completely unharmed.
Knowing such a move wouldn't work, Monica ordered again, "Flygon, use Sandstorm!"
As Flygon used its ability, a sudden storm of yellow sand appeared out of nowhere. The sand covered the entire area behind the Pokémon Center, blocking everyone's vision and surrounding both Pokémon. She's trying to create a favorable environment to defeat Dragonite.
Natsui remained calm and simply gave his own order. "Dragonite, use Rain Dance!"
Dragonite let out a great roar, and the clear sky suddenly filled with dark clouds. With no thunder or lightning, huge raindrops began to fall in an instant. If you want to change the weather, then I'll play along.
The rain mixed with the sand, creating a downpour of mud from the sky. Natsui, who had anticipated this, had already sent out his Gardevoir. It used its psychic powers to create an invisible shield over him and Erika, blocking all the mud.
The Weekday Siblings and the kids watching, however, weren't so lucky. As the commander, Monica stood her ground, and her face and clothes were soon splattered with mud. Her two younger brothers were so focused on the battle that they didn't move either. Only the other children ran for cover under a nearby awning, but they were still hit by some of the mud. For them, who had only ever seen intense battles on TV, this was a chance they didn't want to miss, no matter how bad the weather got.
But the ones most affected by the mud were the two Pokémon in the center of the field. They were completely surrounded by the falling sludge, which severely blocked their vision. Even with its special eyes, Flygon was very uncomfortable.
Worst of all for Monica, Flygon's large, thin wings were now caked in mud, making it too heavy to fly. It was forced to land on the ground, which was now a slippery, muddy mess.
Luckily, the muddy weather only lasted for a short while before it disappeared. When the sky cleared again, apart from the mess all around, there was no sign that the weather had changed at all. A Pokémon's power was limited; they could change the weather for a moment, but they couldn't change nature forever.
In the air, Dragonite was also covered in mud and was struggling to fly. Natsui immediately shouted, "Use Dragon Rush!"
Dragonite shot upward. As the wet mud fell from its body, it circled a few times in the air and then dove at high speed toward Flygon.
"Flygon, fly, quick!" Monica yelled.
But Flygon's wings were covered in a thick layer of mud, making it hard to move. By the time it managed to shake the mud off and try to take flight, Dragonite was already upon it, crashing into it with immense force.
BAM!
The blow sent Flygon flying. The impact also managed to shake most of the remaining mud off Dragonite's body. After the successful hit, Natsui ordered Dragonite back into the air. He wasn't about to let his Pokémon fight a strong Ground-type on the difficult, muddy ground.
