BOOM! BOOM!
Several smoke bombs exploded near the TV station. Thick white smoke spread out, blocking the view of the Team Rocket members inside and drawing their attention. Knowing this usually meant the police were starting their move, they didn't dare let their guard down.
Sure enough, seeing officers begin to attack the main entrance, Team Rocket gathered most of their forces in the first-floor lobby, intending to fight to the last man. A fierce battle broke out. Although the police officers were well-trained, the Team Rocket members fought with the desperation of those with nothing to lose. The assault continued for several minutes, but the officers couldn't break through their defensive line.
In the midst of this chaos, no one noticed a Dragonite carrying a man and a woman circle high into the sky, then dive down, smash through a top-floor window, and burst into the TV station.
CRASH!
Glass shattered and scattered everywhere. Natsui jumped off Dragonite's back. Without even looking around, he threw two Poké Balls. With a flash of blue light, Gardevoir and Jolteon appeared to his left and right. Gengar materialized in front of him, and Dragonite, after letting Erika down, stood behind him. The four Pokémon vigilantly watched their surroundings, protecting Natsui and Erika from all sides.
No matter who the enemy was, they would have to get through them first.
The area was quiet; no enemies appeared. Only then did Natsui have a moment to look around. They were in the tower high above the main TV station building, connected by a spire-like structure. From the layout, it looked like a circular observation deck. It was completely empty, showing only traces of a hasty evacuation. It seemed the staff here had been captured by Team Rocket and were being held elsewhere.
But this was good. It meant they had successfully gotten inside without being detected.
Looker's voice crackled through his earpiece. "...static... What's your status?"
Natsui whispered back, "Everything's going smoothly. Team Rocket hasn't spotted us yet."
"Great!" Looker sighed in relief. "I've cut the internal power lines, so they won't see you on the cameras. The attack on the front door will continue for a few more minutes. Use this time to move freely."
"Understood!"
After ending the call, Natsui had Gengar scout the nearby area. Once it confirmed there were no grunts, he and Erika began to move to the lower floors. Erika also sent out her Leafeon and Bellossom. Their combined Pokémon were a force to be reckoned with. This was why Looker had been so happy to see him; a champion like Natsui was as effective as an entire elite squad, but much stealthier.
With Gengar leading the way, its ability to phase through walls meant Natsui didn't have to worry about being discovered. They did run into one or two patrolling grunts, but before they knew what was happening, Gengar had easily knocked them out. Natsui tore strips from their uniforms to gag them, used the handcuffs he got from Looker to secure them to a railing, and continued downward.
Because Team Rocket was short on members and focused on the front entrance, the operation was going surprisingly well.
They passed through the tower and into the main building below. They soon found the captured staff members in a conference room. However, even with the battle raging in the lobby, there were still over a dozen Team Rocket members guarding them. Rescuing the hostages without alerting everyone was almost impossible.
But it didn't matter now. They were already here.
He and Erika quickly discussed a plan. They split up, each going to one of the two doors of the conference room. When Erika was in position, Natsui took out his Gengar mask and put it on for the first time in a while.
With a single word, "Go!", their Pokémon burst through both doors at once. Before the Team Rocket members or their Pokémon could react, a flurry of moves flew through the air. In a storm of explosions and sparks, the opposing Pokémon were sent flying.
It all happened in a flash. The terrified hostages screamed and ducked for cover. When the smoke cleared, the Team Rocket members and their Pokémon were all on the ground. A few grunts who were lucky enough to still be conscious saw that someone was rescuing the hostages. Horrified, they quickly used their radios to alert the others.
Hearing the news, Team Rocket finally realized that someone had snuck into the building during the chaos at the front. Damn it, are all these cops this cunning?
At the same time, Looker, who was commanding the operation from the front, saw the commotion in Team Rocket's defensive line and immediately knew what had happened. Without even contacting Natsui, he made a split-second decision and ordered an all-out assault.
With the police throwing all their forces forward and a surprise attack from the rear, Team Rocket's line, which had seemed so strong, crumbled in an instant. They fought as they fell back into the building. The police pressed forward, quickly taking the first floor and beginning their push to the second. Natsui could hear the sounds of the fierce battle even from the conference room.
After freeing the hostages, he and Erika didn't leave. They stayed to protect them, in case Team Rocket tried something desperate. Finally, when Looker and his team burst in, they lowered their guard.
"You've worked hard. Is everything okay?"
"What could happen?" Natsui smiled slightly. "They were just ordinary grunts. It was no trouble at all."
Looker nodded. "Rescuing the hostages means we no longer have to hold back. But the remaining Team Rocket members have retreated to the top of the tower. The tricky part is, we've spotted several other executives among them!"
Executives!?
Hearing that, Natsui's interest was instantly piqued. The last time he had faced a Team Rocket executive was in the warehouse on the Seven Islands, where he, Sabrina, and Lorelei had encountered and captured Petrel.
