"A Rainbow Wing and a Silver Wing?"
Kurt frowned when he heard the names. As a master Poké Ball craftsman, he knew exactly what they were. Professor Elm and Erika didn't know as much, but they were smart enough to guess where the feathers came from.
Only little Chie looked at her grandfather with confusion.
"Grandpa, what are those? Are they feathers from a Pokémon?"
Erika, fond of the innocent little girl, decided to explain. "The Rainbow Wing is a feather from Ho-Oh, and the Silver Wing is from the sea god, Lugia. Because both of them are Legendary Pokémon, even their feathers hold amazing power."
"Ho-Oh... Lugia..."
The little girl whispered the famous names, her eyes full of wonder as her thoughts drifted off to faraway places. As someone who grew up in Johto hearing stories about these two Legendary Pokémon, she knew how much people respected them. A Poké Ball made from their feathers must be something incredible.
But while the girl's thoughts were simple, Kurt and Professor Elm's were much heavier.
When making a Poké Ball, it wasn't about using the rarest or most expensive materials. It was about finding parts that worked well together. If the materials clashed, not only would they fail, but it could even be dangerous.
Kurt sighed. "One of these feathers represents Ho-Oh's fire, and the other represents Lugia's ocean. They are like fire and water. To be able to combine them shows just how skilled the maker of this Poké Ball was."
He kept another thought to himself: even though he was called a master craftsman, he could never make a Poké Ball like this one.
Elm looked at Natsui. "Are you saying that the special Poké Ball you heard about is this GS Ball?"
Natsui didn't answer directly. Instead, he said slowly, "I heard that the Poké Ball has two letters on it. One stands for Gold, and the other stands for Silver."
Professor Elm and Kurt looked at the GS Ball again, their eyes stopping on the two letters. It had to be the one he was talking about.
Kurt thought for a moment. "Gold... Silver... but why? Are they the initials of the maker's name, or do they refer to the material of the ball?"
Natsui just shook his head vaguely. He couldn't exactly tell them that the letters stood for the Gold and Silver game versions and that they were all characters in a story.
Professor Elm frowned. "Why would anyone go to so much trouble to make a Poké Ball like this?"
"To catch a powerful Pokémon, of course!" Kurt said. "Isn't that the whole point of making Poké Ball? But... Ho-Oh and Lugia are already at the peak of the Pokémon world. Just getting their feathers is nearly impossible. What kind of Pokémon would be worth all this effort?"
Professor Elm saw that Natsui was quiet and had an idea. "You already know, don't you?"
Natsui nodded. "It's a ball for catching time."
Kurt and Elm both gasped. "Catching time!?"
"That's right," Natsui explained. "Using the feathers of two Legendary Pokémon as a medium to capture a Pokémon that has the power to control time."
Except for Chie, everyone in the room knew enough about Pokémon to realize which one Natsui was talking about.
"Celebi..."
Chie looked back and forth, then turned to the pretty lady. "Miss, what's a Celebi?"
Erika thought for a moment and told the girl what she knew. "Celebi is one of the Mythical Pokémon. They say it has the power to travel through time and wanders through different eras. It's also known as the god of the forest. It can heal injuries and make plants grow."
"Mythical Pokémon?"
Chie caught that detail, her little eyes full of confusion. At her age, she only knew a little about the world and had only ever heard of Legendary Pokémon.
Professor Elm nodded. "Mythical Pokémon are very rare. Sometimes they are considered equal to Legendary Pokémon, and sometimes they are grouped together with them."
After he spoke, the room became heavy with silence again. Everyone was thinking about who would make such a Poké Ball to capture a god of time.
After a long moment, Kurt suddenly sighed. "Well... this makes things difficult."
They all looked at him.
Kurt gave a bitter smile. "If this was just a normal Poké Ball, it would be fine. We could just put it aside if we couldn't figure it out. But now that we know the story behind this GS Ball, there could be trouble if people find out."
Professor Elm was silent. He was right. If word got out, there would surely be people with bad intentions who would want it.
He hesitated for a moment. "Maybe... we should give it to the police?"
Kurt shook his head. Give it to the police? He had lived long enough to know how dangerous the world could be. If they handed it over, and someone powerful wanted it, the GS Ball would be in their hands in no time.
Professor Elm realized this as soon as he said it and sighed to himself. But leaving it with Kurt would only bring him trouble. Even if they all kept it a secret, the ball had passed through many hands before them. Anyone could find out where it was with a little digging.
Elm glanced at Kurt and saw that he looked worried too. He had clearly thought of the same thing. Sighing, Professor Elm's eyes happened to pass over Natsui, and an idea suddenly struck him.
"Mr. Kurt, I have a favor to ask..."
"Oh?" Kurt looked at him. "Go on, Elm. You can say whatever is on your mind."
Professor Elm said, "I think that since we know its purpose now, there's no need to research it further. And since it's not safe to keep it here, I believe we should give it to the most suitable person to look after."
Kurt had lived for many years; he understood what Elm was suggesting as soon as he spoke. He followed Elm's gaze, and his eyes also landed on Natsui.
