Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Dragonite Island

Koharu was about to speak when Natsui's phone suddenly rang. She had no choice but to keep quiet, squatting on the ground with her chin in her hands, watching Natsui with a smile as she waited for him to finish his call.

Natsui glanced down at the screen; it was Sabrina calling.

"Hello?" When the call connected, Natsui didn't bother with pleasantries and got straight to the point, "How did it go?"

On the other end of the line, Sabrina's voice was as cool as ever, "I've already given the Silph Scope to Mr. Silph. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for you recovering it."

Natsui was waiting for more, but when Sabrina stopped, he couldn't help but ask in surprise, "Huh? That's it?"

Sabrina chuckled and asked in return, "What? You sound disappointed?"

"Of course," Natsui admitted freely. "After all, I got it back from Team Rocket. I was kind of hoping he might give me another Master Ball."

"A Master Ball?" Sabrina said, amused. "What do you think a Master Ball is, a regular Poké Ball you can find lining the shelves of any Poké Mart?"

"I know that, of course, but men are greedy creatures. We always hold unrealistic fantasies about the things we can't have!"

It's unknown if Natsui's words caused a misunderstanding, but Sabrina fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Alright, I'll stop teasing you. Actually, Mr. Silph knows you're continuing your journey, so he had someone modify the scope so that you can install it on your mask!"

Mask? What mask?

Koharu's ears immediately perked up.

"Eh? He's actually giving the scope to me!? Wait, since when do you tell jokes!?" Natsui said in surprise. Seeing Koharu eavesdropping on his conversation, he quickly turned away and lowered his voice, "Ahem, okay, anyway, thank you, and please thank Mr. Silph for me. Just hold on to it for now. You can give it to me when I have time to go to Saffron City."

In the afternoon, Natsui returned to the laboratory, but he didn't stay idle. Instead, he helped Professor Cerise and the others, lending a hand here and there.

Besides Professor Cerise, Ren and Chrysa also taught him many things, like how to write observation notes, use simple equipment, and analyze the essence of things. They truly treated him as a member of the laboratory.

Taking this opportunity, Natsui also studied diligently, humbly asking them questions and trying to absorb any knowledge he could about Pokémon.

...

In the blink of an eye, it was Monday. When Koharu went back to school, Natsui also set off on a new journey. This time, his destination was the city of the Fuchsia Gym—Fuchsia City!

The straight-line distance between Fuchsia City and Vermilion City wasn't that far, but because a sea separated them, there were two ways he could get there.

The first was to travel by land, heading east from the outskirts of Vermilion City, through a dense, deep mountain range, and then taking a detour from there, following the coast southwest until finally reaching Fuchsia City.

But this route, aside from being more than ten times longer, was also particularly time-consuming and laborious, clearly not worth the effort.

As for the second option, it was to take a cruise ship directly across the sea.

However, after a moment of thought, Natsui decided to try a method he had never experienced before!

"Come on out, Gyarados!"

As the Poké Ball opened, a Pokémon with a dragon-like head and a long, slender body appeared in the sea.

Natsui leaped forward, landing steadily on Gyarados's back.

Ever since coming to this world, he had always wanted to try riding a Water-type Pokémon out to sea. Now that he had such a suitable opportunity, it could be considered a wish fulfilled!

Setting his direction, with a cheerful shout from Natsui, most of Gyarados's body floated on the water's surface as it swam rapidly towards the other side of the sea.

The boundless sea, the blue sky, and the white clouds lifted one's spirits. Even the damp, salty sea breeze felt exceptionally comfortable against his skin.

Coupled with the occasional ship he encountered and the Pokémon that would leap out of the sea from time to-time, it added a bit of surprise and fun to this otherwise ordinary trip.

However, after a long time, no matter how beautiful the scenery was, it gradually became dull and boring.

Natsui yawned, feeling bored, when suddenly a strong wind blew. He looked into the distance and saw, at the very edge of his sight, a fierce storm approaching him!

You've got to be kidding me. Why do I always run into this kind of weather as soon as I go out to sea!?

Sighing internally, Natsui quickly directed Gyarados to change course. However, the storm was moving too fast. In just a few short minutes, it was already upon him.

The fierce sea wind was so strong it was almost impossible to open his eyes, and the pouring rain instantly soaked his clothes!

Just as he was hesitating whether to switch to Zapdos and escape by air, giant waves were already crashing over him!

In the face of nature, both humans and Pokémon seemed so insignificant!

Gyarados's body was completely out of its control, tossing and turning on the waves!

Natsui wrapped one arm around Gyarados's neck while his other hand reached for the Great Ball on his waist. However, at that very moment, he saw several Pokémon flying towards him from the sky, from far to near!

Their yellow, stout bodies seemed completely unaffected by the storm, making them exceptionally conspicuous even under the dark sky!

It was Dragonite!!

Before Natsui could understand what they were going to do, one of the Dragonite had already flown in front of him. Without a word, it used its claws to pick him up and flew back into the air!

Natsui looked bewildered. What's going on? Did they mistake me for a castaway?

Seeing they were flying further and further away, he quickly took out a Poké Ball and recalled Gyarados. However, perhaps because he didn't sense any malice from these Dragonite, Natsui let them carry him away from the storm.

Their wings flapped, and they flew far away from the storm. But then, Natsui saw the Dragonite carry him right into another storm.

Before he had time to be surprised, they had already passed through the storm, and the view before him suddenly opened up!

In mid-air, Natsui looked down from above and saw, within the ring-shaped storm, a lush green, isolated island!

Such a sight immediately made Natsui think of one place—Dragonite Island!

After the Dragonite landed on the island, Natsui stepped onto the soft sand. He looked up and saw the Dragonite gathered around him, all watching him with proud expressions.

They looked just like children who had done a good deed and were eagerly awaiting praise!

"Uh, alright." Natsui shook his head, cleared his throat, and said gratefully, "Although it wasn't necessary, I still have to thank you for getting me out of that storm...
