Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: The Operation Begins

Celadon City.

At nine in the morning, two black cars, one after the other, pulled up outside the Celadon Game Corner.

On the street, vehicles of all sizes flowed endlessly, and pedestrians, busy with their own journeys, didn't spare a second glance at the two cars that had suddenly stopped.

"Is it time?" From the passenger seat, a young man wearing a Gengar mask asked in a low voice.

The driver was a slightly frail-looking man. He glanced at the time on the dashboard and nodded.

"The time is just right."

"Do we move?"

"No, we still need to wait for the signal. This place is crawling with their lookouts. Everyone, be extremely careful."

"Understood!"

"Hey, hey!" The conversation between these two made Erika's face darken. She said helplessly, "Could you two please speak in a normal tone? Don't make it sound like we're undercover agents making contact!"

"Ah, sorry!" Looker said, embarrassed. "It's mainly this mask Natsui is wearing. He really doesn't look like a good guy. In this atmosphere, I just got caught up in the moment without realizing it."

Glancing at Looker, Natsui said solemnly, "Mr. Looker, please don't talk nonsense."

"Huh? What's wrong?" Looker was taken aback.

Why did he suddenly become so serious?

Was it because I said he didn't look like a good guy, and that made him unhappy?

Natsui said, word by word, "During the operation, do not call me by my name. Please refer to me by my codename—Player!"

"I..." Looker felt a surge of frustration, as if a breath was stuck in his chest. "I thought it was something serious, but you're just hung up on the name!?"

"That's right," Natsui said, as if it were the most natural thing. "This way, it makes us sound more professional!"

In the back seat, Erika covered her mouth to stifle a laugh, and even Sabrina had a hint of a smile in her eyes.

Just then, a sound of an explosion suddenly came from outside the city, followed by a series of crackling sounds like firecrackers. The noise, like a mix of gunfire and cannons, reached them even from a great distance.

The pedestrians on the street all looked towards the outskirts of the city, but with the tall buildings, they couldn't see anything.

"Is this the signal?" Natsui asked.

Looker nodded, raised his arm, and started timing with his watch.

"Alright, time's up. Let's move out!"

With Looker's command, the people in the car got out simultaneously. Behind them, Lance, Agatha, and Nanu also emerged from the other car.

The group, with serious expressions, walked straight into the Game Corner.

Here, many tourists were engrossed in playing various arcade games. They were startled to see a group of intimidating uninvited guests and cast surprised glances.

Ignoring them, Natsui and the others reached a hallway. When they came to a staircase leading to the second floor, they didn't go up. Instead, Looker fumbled on the wall for a moment and quickly found a hidden switch behind a poster.

He pressed it lightly, and the floor suddenly opened up, revealing a staircase leading underground right before them!

With that, the veil was finally lifted from the Team Rocket secret base that had been hidden for so many years!

Two Team Rocket grunts disguised as clerks heard the commotion and hurried over. When they saw that the entrance to the secret base had been opened, their faces changed drastically!

"Damn it! There are intruders here too!"

But before they could sound the alarm, Lance and Nanu rushed forward, grabbed them by the throat, and easily knocked them out with their fists.

Tossing them carelessly into a corner, the group entered the interior, only to find that the place was astonishingly large, far from a small-scale operation.

The entire base was brightly lit and had a high-tech feel. However, on the surrounding walls, red alarm lights were flashing continuously. This wasn't caused by them, but because outside Celadon City, the International Police's special forces were launching a full-scale assault on another exit of this base. This had triggered the alarms and drawn most of the Team Rocket grunts over there!

"Good, everything is going smoothly," Looker said. "Now, we'll proceed according to the plan and split up!"

The group nodded, released their Pokémon, and then split into two teams, heading rapidly down the corridors on either side.

Although they didn't know the specific details of the base yet, based on common sense, the important departments here would be none other than the control room, research and development lab, data room, armory, and power room. Therefore, to prevent data and information from being destroyed, they had to occupy these places before Team Rocket could.

The team assignments had been decided long ago, just as when they were in the cars. Now, Natsui, along with Looker, Erika, and Sabrina, advanced like a hot knife through butter, defeating every Team Rocket grunt they encountered!

However, as they went deeper, the resistance grew stronger.

Besides Team Rocket grunts armed with guns, they even encountered swarms of Pokémon that suddenly appeared from behind and launched attacks!

"Damn it! There are way too many people here!"

Looker barely dodged an Acid Downpour, and looking at the wall corroded by the poison, he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with lingering fear.

"Not only are there many people, but their strength is also much tougher to deal with than the common Team Rocket grunts outside!"

While speaking, Natsui commanded Haunter to knock out several Pokémon with Shadow Ball, finally dealing with that wave of enemies.

"Look at this, you guys!" Erika suddenly pointed to a shutter door and said to them, "Behind this are all computers and various machines. It looks like the base's R&D lab!"

Hearing Erika's words, Looker walked to the shutter door. After failing to open it, he could only peer inside through the thick, specially made glass of the door.

"That's right, it's definitely the place where they develop their technology and equipment! But this door is so thick, we can't possibly open it!"

"Leave it to me." Sabrina, who had been silent all this time, walked to the shutter door. Her eyes began to glow, and then the seemingly indestructible, fireproof, and explosion-proof shutter door was forced open by her psychic power!

After entering the R&D lab, they found it in a complete mess, with scattered papers and broken coffee cups everywhere.

It was clear that while the main entrance was being attacked by the special forces, the research personnel here had fled in a panic, leaving them no opportunities.

"Damn it! Are we too late!?" Looker gritted his teeth, walked to a computer, and began operating the system, trying to find any important files that might have been left behind.

Natsui also walked around the R&D lab a few times. He noticed that almost all the equipment here was still running, which showed just how rushed and urgent the Team Rocket researchers were when they left.

Just as he was turning around, a strangely shaped pair of binoculars suddenly caught his eye.

What is this thing?

He picked up the binoculars. He could see that not only was the entire body of the binoculars white, but the lenses were also emitting a faint blue light!

Out of curiosity, Natsui put the binoculars to his eyes and looked around. But surprisingly, it had neither a telescopic function nor any microscopic or X-ray abilities. Everything he observed was presented exactly as it should be.

Just as he was wondering, when he turned his head towards Haunter, something that astonished him suddenly appeared!
