I paused when I saw a redhead sitting at my desk. I stared at the white cubicle and saw the red lipstick splattered on the edge.
It was my desk, alright.
"Who are you and what are you doing at my desk?" I asked.
"Mrs. B-Brown!" she yelped.
She stood up so fast, her knees buckled. I heard a sharp pop and grimaced. She grabbed her knee in pain and muttered profanities under her breath.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Ugh!" she cried. "I'm f-fine."
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Maddie, your assistant," she said.
I turned, only to see the entire office staring at me. Their eyes snapped back to their screens the moment my gaze landed on them.
"Since when did I have an assistant?" I asked.
"Since you got engaged," Oliver said, walking over to me.
"Oliver," I called softly.
I hadn't seen him in what felt like years. The last time I saw him was when he briefed me about Damien.
I couldn't imagine how he must have felt hearing my sudden engagement to Damien.
