She doesn't mean anything to me. But you do, Aria.
I let out an embarrassing sound and buried my face on my desk. Damien's words rang loudly in my ears. I stared at the documents my assistant had laid down on my desk and picked one up.
But you do, Aria.
Heat rushed to my cheeks and I lifted the documents to hide my embarrassment.
It didn't mean anything, Aria. Don't think too much about it.
A loud knock interrupted my thoughts and I looked up. I cleared my throat and straightened.
"Come in."
Maddie walked in with documents in her hands and I rolled my chair closer to my desk.
"Some documents for you to sign, ma'am," she said.
"Thank you."
I paused when I felt her stare on me. "What is it?"
She took in a deep breath. "I just want you to know that it's an honor to work for you, ma'am."
Maddie reminded me of myself, back when I first stepped into Brown Industries—when the world laid at my feet, waiting to be conquered.
I liked that. I liked her.
