Palace of Jumbadiway Kingdom
Noon
The ambushes were well laid. Jumbadi had a nice defense. All they had to do was activate the already laid ambushes. Pereguin could not help but think of what the Duke was doing when she came in. He was the one sending the letters definitely! She could not believe because she was sure he was not a super being. Something was wrong somewhere. There was something mysterious then.
'Pereguin, Jumbadiway will never forget you for this' Lamidat said passionately.
Perriguin was really worried about the kingdom. The Duke of Noir was too cunning. She wouldn't be shocked if he had realized her absence. If he discovered, he would definitely kill her but she wasn't scared. She cared about the kingdom and that was all. The whole thing had to be hidden from the Duke's mother, Roria because she wasn't well.
'I pray it works...the Duke should have married her!' Perriguin exclaimed worriedly.
She was really scared. The Duke's brother and her were at the topmost floor, looking at the whole preparation. The Duke was seriously worried.
'Is that from your heart?' the Duke's brother asked. 'Cause I know you will not want that duchess to be the wife of your foe' he added.
It was true. Perriguin hated the duchess of Lumbidimaway with everything within her.
'You are yet to tell me about everything that happened...I was really...'
'There almost here!' Perriguin yelled, avoiding the topic as she looked through the scope worriedly. 'Let's go and mount on our horses and prepare for war' she added.
She held his hand and they moved down to the last floor. The Duke was already in his warrior' suit. His amour bearers bore his shield and spear beside him. He was on his horse. He looked very humble without his long cape. Most of his body was covered with the metal amour that included the helmet, breastplate and others. He had a mask on too. The mask covered everywhere except his eyes, nose and mouth. The soldiers were behind him in thousands. All of them were in their warrior's suit, spear, sword and shield.
'Is there an outfit for me a warrior's suit' Perriguin demanded worriedly.
Lamidat drew closerand held Perriguin's hands.
'Sorry... Jumbadiway's law is against women going for war'
The sound of horses interrupted. They were close! Perriguin looked at Lamidat and he looked at her too before mounting the horse. Perriguin really wanted to be part of it, the war. Before she could say anything, they moved quickly with great speed.
Perriguin rushed up to the topmost floor in order to have a nice view. They were getting closer and closer to the ambush! She smiled, waiting to see them defeated but unfortunately, they crossed over the ambush. Only one person fell. The others jumped over with their horses. Perriguin screamed when she saw that. Immediately, she ran the the Duke mother's quarters. She was in the midst of maids. Perriguin had to ensure she was safe.
'Perriguin...' she called out, sitting up.
She spread her arms for a hug. Perriguin hugged her tightly and withdrew almost immediately. 'Where did you... help me call Jumbadi' she said.
'Ahm... he's coming...let me get...' she stammered.
She had to find a way to activate the other ambushes. The whole place was chaotic. No one had an idea. All they knew was that the Duke and Lamidat left with his soldiers for war.
Perriguin rushed to the military quarters. The men on guard tried refusing her entry but she kicked them and threw dust in their face. She rushed in and dragged the ropes of all the ambushes. She activated all of them! Then, she took a sword, mask, amour, shield and spear. She also took daggers before rushing out. Some maids assisted her in carrying the heavy tools. They were asking many questions but she dulged all. She moved ahead and pulled out a white horse from the horse quarters and moved it to the outskirt of the palace.
On her way to the outskirt, she met the herbalist. He offered her a calabash of greenish liquid and yellowish liquid which she drank. Then, she chew some grasses, rubbed a black substance on her forehead and ran oil through her head. She placed five sticks between her lips and mumbled some words to Lord Zuzu before chewing the sticks. She exhaled, screamed and beat her chest before climbing the horse. Placing the daggers and sword around her, she held the spear with one hand while the other controlled the horse.
She did not put on the amour because it was to big and heavy. All she had on was her shua and mask. There was no protective cloth but she was assured by the herbalist that she wouldn't be hurt by anything. Using her scope, she checked. They had escaped most of the ambushes!
In anger, she screamed and moved on. She stroked the horse till it was moving at maximum speed.
