In the evening they all sat around the dinner table. Yichen's mother set down her chopsticks and looked at Lu Nian with a thoughtful expression.
"Lu Nian, my friend told me her daughter was very sad after meeting you," she said gently.
Lu Nian's face drained of color. He lowered his eyes and whispered, "I'm sorry, Aunt."
She gave him a small smile, shaking her head. "It's alright, it's normal. I just think… maybe you both are not meant for each other."
Lu Nian's hand trembled slightly as he picked at his food. A quiet sigh escaped him. She didn't know what had really happened that night, and he had no strength to explain.
Across the table, Yichen ate peacefully, avoiding the tension. But his mother's eyes never left him. When her gaze fell on his hand, she froze. The ring glimmered under the warm lights, a ring far too precious to be ordinary. Her heart skipped.
He's wearing it again… That looks like a wedding ring…
