"So, would you like to keep him with you? Until, everything sorts out," asked Lindy.
Alice fell silent hearing her words. It never once crossed her mind that if Jacob didn't return to the orphanage... then he might have to stay with her. Did she want him to stay? Her eyes flickered when she recalled his look. It made her recall some awful memories... kind of similar to Jacob's experience.
"I should ask him. It should be his decision," replied Alice. A part of her was conflicted. Having Jacob in her house meant she had to care for someone other than herself, and it... was difficult. She couldn't take care of herself, so... how could she take care of a little child?"
Alice walked towards Jacob and crouched near him. His eyes lit up in joy when he saw her. This made her stomach clench with unknown emotions.
"You ate another ice-cream," commented Alice.
Jacob muttered, "Sorry." His tone was genuinely sad which made Alice more uncomfortable.
