Chapter 39 - Escape

Trapped inside the barrier with the Poison Overlord was a disastrous situation for all the remaining immortals. The Fortune-Sealing Sect had intended for the Poison overlord to kill everyone else here from the beginning. This was to prevent any information from getting out.

"Elaine! Work with the Sacred Sect so we can escape." Warren transmitted over to her.

"Shit, this is an organic formation they really went all out for this." Elaine began muttering to herself. "I can create an opening but I need time and it won't last long!" She transmitted back to him.

"How much time!?" He asked currently working alongside Dianna to push the overlord back.

"Five minutes at least." She said a time that would feel like an eternity at their level. It would have been longer but she was going to use the power of the Sacred Sect immortals.

"We need to stall for five minutes." He said to Dianna before turning to the Life-Death clan. "If you want to live go join our groups but you owe us for this."

"We will be sure you repay the two of you." Their leader said as they flew towards Elaine. No one had a particularly good relationship with their clan but a favor from them was still incredibly valuable.

"So what do you think your chances of killing this are?" Dianna asked while the Overlord was covering the area in its poisonous webs.

"Depends." He replied.

"On what?"

"Without dying with it at best 1% otherwise maybe about 10%." He said as a killing path immortal his assessment would be incredibly accurate.

"Really? I would have given you a higher chance." She said not too disheartened since their goal was only to stall.

While they were conversing poisonous mist and webs began to spread throughout the area. Even if immortals did not need to breath any longer it was still entering there bodies through the skin. The overlord was not intending to spare anyone anymore this even included the other beasts that were also trapped here.

Seeing this the roc offered to form an alliance with Warren and Diana but the two declined having no need to do such a thing with a beast.

Once the spider finished spreading the webs and mist throughout the formation it shrunk its body to be only slightly larger than a human. Once it was that small it began using its webs to jump around the area moving even faster than it was possible for it to fly.

The first one it went to kill was the roc since it was isolated. The roc may not have been able to see but it could still sense the Overlord's energy but this caused it to feel a sense of dread. It could feel the Overlord's speed and the speed it was bouncing between its webs made it feel like it was moving even faster than by teleporting.

Feeling the fear of when the attack would come it reacted by choosing to act first. A dark mist began emitting from its body but it was weaker than the poison mist of the overlord so it was only able to spread out a dozen meters far smaller than normal. With the situation it was in it would have to make it work.

"Return my fallen god!" The roc shouted.

The darkness eventually began to solidify taking the the form of a larger roc but this one was far more sinister not just because it was solid black with white eyes. The energy it emitted felt evil in nature worse than the energy of most fiends even.

Before it could fully manifest the Overlord attacked. It jumped straight at the black roc that was manifesting aiming to destroy it before it could manifest. The roc naturally was prepared for this and went to block the attack but it had underestimated the power of the Overlord the power on the level of a divine beast. It easily broke through all the roc's defenses biting its head off and destroying the mist behind it in the process.

Poison was its second path not its first. This was because it was an ordinary beast from birth but through a fortuitous encounter it had gained its body had been reborn. At that time it had also gained the second path of poison allowing it to rise to power. Because of that in less than a minute it had easily killed the roc.

Once the roc was dead it turned its eyes to Dianna and Warren and they felt it's stare. The stare made them feel the terror prey had when they locked eyes with a predator.

"I had hoped it would have lasted longer." Dianna said.

"Focus its coming." Warren said as the aura of his killing path manifested around him along with a battle Axe in his hands.

Jumping from web to web the Overlord appeared almost instantly behind them ready to take Dianna's head off. Luckily Warren fast enough to react in time and stopped it from killing Dianna but he was sent flying and crash landed in the ground.

At the same time Diana fully manifested her Sacred path. The aura of it alone instantly began purifying everything in the vicinity destroying the spiders mist and webs.

The Overlord did not like that and began jumping between the webs that were outside her aura. Once it was behind her it pounced again going for the kill. This time however she had already experienced the speed and was prepared. A golden avatar manifested around protecting her and grabbing the Overlord.

She tried using her avatar to tear of its legs but they were extremely durable giving the Overlord more than enough time to react. At the same time Warren was coming back in but he was not fast enough to do anything.

The Overlord shot out web connecting it to the rest of its web and used that to pull itself out of Dianna's grasp.

"How much longer?" She asked.

"Don't think about just focus." He replied.

"Strong…. Rest weak." It voiced echoed out.

Hearing that Warren was going to go all out. He had long since offered it a chance to leave fulfilling the requirements for his binds.

"Protect them." He told Dianna as he dashed into the mist forcing her to do as he said.

Flying through the webs at a high speed without being able to see was incredibly difficult task because even someone at his strength would be stuck for a moment if he ran into them.

The Overlord realizing this was feeling happy it had separated them.

"1 more minute." Elaine sent to Warren.

He did not respond pushing away any thoughts that did not involve killing.

Once again jumping around the Overlord looking for the right moment to strike and it found it for a brief moment Warren had gotten stuck to a web. In an instant the spider was once again in front of Warren ready to take his head.

This time however he had been baiting it only pretending to get stuck for a moment. Fully infusing his battle Axe with his killing path he hit the Overlord before it could get him sending it crashing down this time.

It would not be seriously injured from this but his condition for victory was simply to buy time and now that he had got it he began flying back as fast as he could. Yet only seconds later the Overlord appeared in front of him attacking him.

In that moment the instincts of his killing path took over. Reinforcing his left arm he was going to let the Overlord take it as he rotated his body to block the brunt of the damage with it.

Biting onto Warren's arm the Overlord's momentum did not stop it continued dragging Warren along with it towards its webs. Yet before it could get him in the webs Warren swung his body onto the back of the Overlord.

Once he was on its back he cut his left arm off at the shoulder in one slash with his Axe to prevent the poison from spreading. After a moment the arm inside the Overlord blew up but it did little damage however what it did was release the killing intent inside the arm and where his left arm had once been an arm made of killing intent formed. Once formed he used the arm of killing intent to stab into the beasts body connecting it the killing intent inside the body.

Using the killing intent he flew down the beast body cutting it wide open but this would not be enough to kill it, it would only delay it.

Using that chance it was recovering it Warren began flying full speed to Elaine as she had told him their was only 10 seconds until the opening.

As he got to Elaine a hole in the barrier was opening up.

"Hurry it won't be open for long!" Elaine shouted as all the Immortals flew through.

Just as he was about to cross through the spider had already recovered and once again pounced on him. This time however with the rest of the immortals having escaped Dianna went back to help him.

However that was a mistake the Overlord was more cunning than they had given it credit for and using its webs it evaded the two of them heading for the exit.

"ELAINE CLOSE IT!" Warren shouted at her.

It would not be fast enough at her strength she would not even be able to resist it for a second nor was she able to close it in time. Daer and Sasha rushed over to try to protect her but even with their help it would only in three deaths instead of one.

Just as the Overlord was about to take her head a snap echoed out and it vanished. Floating in the sky was the woman who had taken the tortoise.

I've already changed one event today, so stopping the massacre should be fine? I hope.

Once they were saved the woman disappeared without a trace.

Meanwhile Elaine was about to collapse the true fear of death was something she had not experienced in a long time.

"Elaine are you guys ok?" Warren asked having finally gotten to them but her reaction was the worst.

"…yeah." She said but the close call had definitely gotten to her.

"Alright then lets return since we all manged to leave here alive." Warren said.

Indeed the massacre that was about to occur was fortunately avoided with the help of a mysterious individual. Today everyone had managed to survive even the beasts that were still trapped. The only exception was the roc that had been killed.
