A column of granite launched Alaric through the air, far above the tornado and the dragon. When he reached the apex of his jump, a stone platform was waiting for him in the sky.
He flipped over, planting his feet on the platform. He crouched deep and launched himself from the platform, straight at Spiralus.
The platform made of granite shattered from the force Alalric exerted. His voice reverberated through the chaos.
"Dark Cloaked Black Blade!"
Dark magic slowly coated his blade as he swung his sword as fast as he could. A long blade made of dark magic erupted from his blade.
This technique extended the reach of one's blade. It was traditionally a quick draw technique, but Alaric worked with what he had.
Any normal person would be frightened by this battle. No normal or sane person had the balls to fight a dragon head-on.
The dragon wars that formed the nation of Draconia were a long, fought battle with millions of deaths.
After that war, one family and one dragon made history. Typhoon was known around the world as the strongest dragon ever to grace this world.
And the family that ended the war was House Stormblood. A family that breeds lightning users to assert their dominance over Draconia.
Spiralus was taken aback by how quickly the technique was executed. Alaric's blade cut through and cut off one of its arms.
ROAR!!!
Its roar vibrated the ground as it screamed in pain.
Spiralus was in pain, and Alaric had minor cuts on his body, using too much mana too quickly.
This wasn't a battle they could win through conventional means.
With each passing moment, Alaric felt himself growing weaker. But he could feel a presence off in the distance, growing stronger with each passing second.
"CASSIUS, REMOVE THE CHAINS!" Alaric shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Don't be stupid, Alaric! You know you'll kill everyone here if you do that!"
--
Jack felt his chest getting hotter and hotter. It took him a moment to realize it was from the pendant.
Draven's pendant had grown so hot that it was starting to leave a mark on his chest.
System, what is happening with the pendant?
[Analyzing...]
[Unknown energy signature.]
[Unable to analyze.]
The system's uncertainty was almost as disturbing as the pain. If it couldn't figure out what it was, then what could?
"Kid, whatever insane plan you're cooking up in that head of yours, forget it!" Finn grabbed his arm hard enough to leave a bruise.
"That is not an ordinary dragon. We need someone a lot stronger than your father to kill that thing!"
Jack shrugged off Finn's grip with surprising strength. Never taking his eyes off Spiralus.
Somewhere past all the wind and rain, his father was fighting for his life. Fear crept up Jack's spine.
Something inside Jack told him that he had to overcome his fear and help his father face the dragon. "He needs help," Jack said.
Those three words reminded him of a great challenge and his destiny before his fall from grace.
Jack looked closer through the rain and saw the devastation below. The entire landscape had been destroyed.
The soldiers had died, his father was bleeding, and the dragon's left arm was lying on the ground.
'System, analyze the dragon.'
[Spiralus]
[Rank: Disaster.]
[Level: 112]
[HP: 177,478/250,000] affinity: Wind, Water.]
[Jack, I would recommend that you run.]
'That's not an option system. I will not let my father die.'
Jack's heart sank, like a stone dropped into a bottomless lake. Even with the power Draven gave him, with all the system's help, and the advantage of being born into a high-ranking noble family, it all meant nothing in this moment.
Spiralus was over 10 times his level and had enough HP to treat humans like pesky mosquitoes.
But then Jack remembered something that Annabelle had told him before the partyDavidmetimGoliath greatest victories come not from your raw power, but from finding the weakness your enemy doesn't expect."
This had turned into a David and Goliath story, and all Jack had was his faith.
'System, any weaknesses you can see?'
[Calculating...]
[ Primary Weakness: lightning.]
Suddenly, Jack heard a strange voice.
"Finn, do you hear that?"
"Hear what, kid?"
The only sounds that could be heard were the pounding of the rain and a large gust of wind that flew by his head.
There was something else in the storm; the voice got clearer and spoke to Jack.
'My chosen one.' The voice of Dravenred and Jack could yell who it was. It was Draven.
'System, can you hear that?'
[I hear the weather, Jack.]
The system couldn't detect that Draven was speaking directly to Jack.
'The time has come for you to learn the true power of your blessing.'
'What, what do you mean?'
'Every chosen one possesses a gift beyond their blessed abilities. Gods usually don't tell their chosen ones until they've grown stronger, so their bodies can handle it.
But know that the pain that follows may kill you. This is not something to be taken lightly. The last time I had a chosen one and offered them the same deal, their heart exploded.'
Jack looked towards his father, barely visible through the rain. He hadn't shared too many memories with this family. But it didn't matter; they meant the world to him now.
'Are there any other side effects?'
'There is one other drawback I didn't mention. I don't care right now. Just tell me what I have to do.'
'Listen to the sound of my voice and repeat the words I say.'
The dragon roared again. It began to glow all over its body, preparing for another vicious attack.
There was no more time for doubt, no more room for fear.
"Finn, get ready to run."
Finn looked at Jack, confused, before realizing what he was about to do.
"Don't do it!!" Finn shouted. But Jack had already begun to chant.
"I call upon the power to split the heavens. Grant me strength to command the heavens. Let your divine wrath through, my hands. All father. I beseech you!"
Jack chanted a prayer to the gods, and Draven answered him in full force.
The battle between Alaric, Cassius, and Spiralus ceased, and they all turned to a massive surge of power that rained down from the sky.
Thunder and lightning erupted from the clouds above Jack.
[Primordial Skill temporary fingertips
Thunder and lightning boomed across the battlefield as it struck Jack directly. Jack could feel lightning and thunder between his fingertips.
,
His lightning changed colors from purple to blue to red to white.
Jack's hair stood up from all the electricity. He put his right hand out, and a white spear formed in his hands.
At this moment, Spiralus began to sweat and panic. This is what the dragon came here to stop.
Alaric saw the worry on the dragon's face and was shocked to see the surge of power that was coming from his son, Jack.
Finn was blasted back by all the lightning and thunder that had entered Jack's body.
[Pain is turned off until the skill is used.]
'This must be why dragons fear lightning so much. I can feel every ounce of energy in my body and in the sky.'
