Chapter One: The Transition
At 3:00 PM, on a city street outside Tian Xuan High School, boys and girls were now leaving school, splitting into pairs and trios according to their friendships, chatting about the topics they loved.
Xiao Xing and Yuan Bing set off on their way home. They weren't just best friends—they also lived in the same neighborhood. Their friendship had grown strong ever since Yuan Bing transferred to their current neighborhood during middle school.
Their bond deepened when the girls discovered they shared the same interests: anime, games, and especially web novels. Their favorite novel used to be Reverend Insanity, but after it was banned and they watched Lord of the Mysteries, it became their new favorite—although they each preferred a different path in the story.
Yuan Bing loved the Fool Path, for which Xiao Xing often teased her, saying she was a fool and that if she ever advanced down that path, she'd become a super-powered idiot—which was still better than being a useless one. In return, Yuan Bing teased Xiao Xing and called her "the charlatan" because she favored the Wheel of Fortune path.
Suddenly, as the two friends were talking and laughing, they heard a loud horn and saw a truck speeding straight toward them. In those final few seconds of their lives, the only thought that crossed their minds was how short sixteen years really were—and how cliché it was to die from a truck accident.
Then, everything went black for Xiao Xing.
After an unknown amount of time, Xiao Xing felt a sharp headache and her eyes felt heavy. She couldn't open them without effort. When she finally did, she saw a strange ceiling. After managing to sit up with difficulty, she noticed the room's odd yet elegant decor. But what struck her most was the red light glowing through the window.
When she got out of bed and pulled the curtains aside, she saw a huge, bright red moon. Her first thought was that she was experiencing one of those cliché moments of dying by truck only to reincarnate into a beloved novel. Yet what frightened her the most was the knowledge she now had—knowledge she wasn't supposed to know.
Xiao Xing:Oh God... I actually loved those few moments in this new world.
