Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Being Targeted

Chapter 27: Being Targeted

Wu Yifan had barely savored his success when Liu Wei's voice shattered the moment. His heart skipped a beat as he turned to find her grinning up at him, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Back so soon?" he groaned.

"What? You didn't miss me?" Liu Wei tilted her head, playful as ever.

"Of course I did," Wu lied, forcing a smile. Inside, he was panicking. *What does she want now?*

Liu Wei giggled. "You're just like the others—sneaking hugs when you think no one's looking. Admit it: you've been scheming to get close to her, haven't you? Lucky for you, I gave you a little push."

"Scheming? I was *saving* her!" Wu protested. "I'm a good guy, okay? Not some creep."

"Prove it." Liu Wei grabbed his arm, shaking it playfully. "What were you really talking about with her earlier? Huh?"

Wu's breath hitched. Her hand was dangerously close to his chest, and her arm brushed against his—soft, warm, *tempting*. He almost sighed, enjoying the contact, when a frosty voice cut through the moment.

"Actually, he's just a security guard at Infinity."

Wu froze. Ye Xiwen stood behind them, her face stone-cold.

"B-boss Ye!" he stammered. "I thought you were networking with the other bosses?"

Ye crossed her arms, her gaze sharp. "I figured I'd better check in before you caused another disaster."

"Disaster? Me?" Wu scoffed. "I'm a model citizen."

"Model citizen?" Ye raised an eyebrow. "Is that what you call—"

"Let's not rehash the past," Wu interrupted, his cheeks burning.

Ye huffed. "The banquet's over. We're leaving. Now."

"But I haven't finished eating—"

"Later," Ye snapped.

Wu groaned, but he knew better than to argue. He shot Liu Wei an apologetic look, then followed Ye toward the door, exchanging quick goodbyes with Zhang and Song.

Outside, Liu Wei watched them go, a thoughtful frown on her face.

"Security guard? That can't be right." She pulled out her camera, flipping through the photos. There was Wu, hugging Ye—grinning like an idiot. There he was, arguing with Qian Baoqing. There he was, standing toe-to-toe with Song Mingjie—no fear, no deference.

"A security guard wouldn't act like that," she murmured. "Not with Zhang Hualei kissing up to him. Not with Song Mingjie treating him like an equal."

She thought back to the rumors—the "Running Emperor," the man who could outrun motorcycles and take steel pipes to the chest. Could it be…?

Liu Wei smiled, tucking her camera away. "Interesting. Very interesting."

She pulled out her phone, dialing a number. "Hey, it's Liu Wei. I need a background check. Name: Wu Yifan. Works at Infinity KTV. Yeah, that's right. And hurry—I think we've got a story here."

In the car, Ye drove in silence, her jaw tight. Wu stared out the window, replaying the day in his mind. Eight enhancement points. Technical Precision. *Not bad.*

"You should stay away from that journalist," Ye said suddenly.

"Liu Wei? She's harmless."

"Journalists are never harmless," Ye replied. "Especially not one who crashes banquets and takes photos of strangers." She glanced at him. "What did she want, anyway?"

"Nothing. Just… curious, I guess."

Ye哼了一声 (snorted), but didn't press.

Wu checked his watch. The enhancement points were already in his account, waiting to be used. Technical Precision—what could that even mean? Lockpicking? Hacking? *Warcraft* skills?

He grinned. Whatever it was, he couldn't wait to find out.

As the car pulled up to Infinity, Wu glanced back at the city lights, a feeling of unease prickling his skin.

Liu Wei's smile, sharp and knowing, kept popping into his head.

*She's onto something*, he thought.

And that meant trouble.

Big trouble.

But for now, he had eight enhancement points and a new attribute to explore.

Trouble could wait.

For tonight, he was on top of the world.
