Chapter 63 - Chapter 62

Alpha-4 ("Pony Express"): Primary Function: Specializes in intercepting, securing, and rerouting packages sent via public and private postal systems.

SCP-073 – Known as "Cain." A humanoid male with cybernetic-like skin and an excellent memory. Any harm done to him is reflected back onto the person or object that caused it, leaving SCP-073 unharmed. He is cooperative with the Foundation and spends much of his time helping with research.

SCP-049 – Known as the Plague Doctor. A humanoid entity wearing a plague doctor outfit that cannot be removed. It can kill living beings with a touch and attempts to "cure" them by performing crude surgery, resulting in reanimated, zombie-like creatures.

SCP-054 – Called the Water Nymph. A sentient mass of water that behaves playfully and can move around like a living creature. There was an incident where it became hostile to personnel.

SCP-1048 – Known as Builder Bear. A small teddy bear that is sentient and capable of movement. It creates copies of itself using human body parts. Like a teddy bear made of ears. It will act harmless then kill you.

SCP-939 – Carnivorous pack predators that lack eyes and use echolocation to hunt. They mimic human voices to lure prey, often repeating phrases spoken by their victims. There saliva has a amnestic effect.

SCP-150- "Body Stealing Parasite" and describes an anomalous microscopic parasite that gradually replaces a human host's tissues with its own cells

-----------Third POV-----------------

Selene watched as security came and escorted SCP-8937 out of the interview room. 8937 didn't even seemed bothered by it, and casually walked out with the guards still smoking his pipe. Selene couldn't understand how SCP-8937 changed so much. He didn't have those abilities the last time she seen him. The only anomalies capabilities that it showed were mind control, or soul control as SCP-8937 had called it, flesh manipulation, increase healing, increase strength and reflexes, and basic pyrokinetic abilities. It was something she didn't want to think about, but was it possible that SCP-8937 was actually self-evolving?

If that was the case, then they needed to understand how his evolution worked? Was it gradually, or did it have something to do with SCP-8937-1? Selene could tell if that was the case, then she was either going to get terminated or highly promoted. A self-evolving SCP that was fine with working with the Foundation and had human friends to anchor him to humanity. That was all a plus in her books, as long as nothing bad happened.

If something bad did happen, and SCP-8937 decided to turn against the Foundation. Selene thought that maybe she should write a will just in case. She should also talk with the Zeta-9, and Alpha-4 team. It was all three of them that had pushed for not only giving SCP-8937 what it wanted, but also being 'gentler' in its containment procedure.

As a former Serpent`s Hand member, Selene still believed that some SCPs were just misguided. She wanted to believe that not all SCP, wanted to kill all humans. Most of the SCPs that were in containment were mostly harmless. She was part of the fraction in the Foundation that believed that some SCPs could be used to further the Foundation mission and that they could be used for other purposes. SCP-8937 could be the key in making that a reality.

Besides it would not be the first time that the Foundation used an SCP for its own benefits. SCP-073 was the first one that came to mind to her. For all intend and purposes Cain should be considered an Foundation staff member. The only reason he wasn't was because of a few minor details.

Selene turned to look at her colleague Dr. Havelock. She wasn't too surprised to see him looking upset and frustrated with the whole thing. Dr.Havelock wasn't much of a fan for SCPs, after what happened with his family. He believed that all SCPs should be locked in containment, that that the treatment that the Foundation was giving some of the SCPs was quote 'too good for them.' The fact that SCP-8937 openly admitted that he could leave whenever he wanted to, and that he was able to bring in that pipe certainly didn't help the case. Selene could only sigh as she could feel Dr.Havelock`s blood pressure rising from where she sat.

"That fucking damn SCP. Who does it think it is O-5? Asking for a contract, HA! We will have to get tested for contamination or any biological hazards thanks to that damn smoke it blew in our faces. Damn things I tell you"

Havelock, continued to complain for a little more before pointing a finger at Selene.

"And you shouldn't have been part of this interview. Weren't you quarantined because of the effects of SCP-8937?"

Selene only gently smiled and said.

"As I have already explained to you multiple times. I have been cleared from quarantine. Need I remain you that I was requested to be part of this interview due to the rapport that I had built with 8937?"

"What good did that help us? Huh? That thing somehow changed? Or Morphed into whatever it is now. For all we know-"

The voice of the former, site director, now assistant Site Director sounded through the intercom. System "Enough. We don't need your little arguments on the official recordings. I want both of you back here."

Selene and Havelock both knew that Mr.Feldman the former Site director, was not someone who had a lot of patient. To be honest, Selene was glad that the man got 'fired' from his position. He wasn't cruel per say, but he certainly didn't care about staff members. Selene couldn't even begin to count the amount of patients she had seen specifically because of him.

""Understood""

"Good. Now get back here."

Selene got up from her chair, and made her way towards the back exit door. When she entered the observation room, she saw Havelock making a beeline towards the Mr.Feldman. Most likely to complain, she couldn't help thinking to herself. She did notice the new Site Director standing with her arms crossed watching the whole thing patiently. Selene didn't know much about the new site director. She didn't know her name, her research or field specialty. No, the only thing she knew was that when O-5 learned that SCP-8937 had knowledge it wasn't suppose to have about the Foundation they had called her in. She had came in to Site-17, and had basically told everyone that she was in charge now. That Mr. Feldman was no longer site director and that any complains should be taken up with the ethics committee. No one had said anything about the new management.

Selene had worked with Foundation long enough to know that there were some Site Directors that believed themselves to be king of a site. She had hear horror stories far worse than what Mr.Feldman had done. She had heard that some Site Directors had used personnel for 'research' purposes or had made cruel deals with certain SCPs. Rape, and other sexual extortion was extremely common for these types of directors.

So, when everyone learned of the new Site Director most people were waiting to see how she was. Was she the cruel type, the friendly type, business type or the 'I will be hiding in my office's type? No one knew. There was a rumor going around that she was related to Dr. Gears, due to her lack of facial expressions. Other said that she was actually an O-5 member and that was due to her constantly having high rank security personnel by her side at all times. Either way no one knew, and no one really wanted to risk finding out.

"Dr.Havelock, Dr. Selene. Please give me your honest thoughts on this…contract that SCP-8937 is asking for." The new Site Director asked.

"Nonsense I say. If we allow this SCP this contract it wants, then that counteracts the Foundation fundamental mission. We shouldn't be allowing a known cognitohazard SCP running free anywhere period! Who knows what it might do later. For all we know it could be waiting for us to let our guard down before killing us. I can think of multiple explains of SCPs doing the same thing. Acting kind, polite, cooperative before killing personnel. SCP-049, SCP-054, or SCP-1048 immediately come to mind." Said Dr.Havelock, Selene waited for him to finish speaking before making her point.

"SCP-8937 was originally human, and was reported to care greatly about his orphan friends. Not only that but Alpha-4 and Zeta-9 both reported that SCP-8937 was critical in completing their respective mission. I can speak from experience that without SCP-8937 myself, along with the rest of Zeta-9 would not be here. I won't deny that SCP-8937 is dangerous, but we need to look at the overall benefits of it. We could have a SCP on our roster to help with securing and containing other SCPs. Not only that but think of the knowledge we could gain from 8937. It is possible that he has knowledge of traumatology, possible future events. That is not including what we could learn from his blood or other biological samples."

The new director listened patiently to both points before saying.

"I agree with both of you. SCP-8937 is a danger, and should be placed in containment. The risk is that 8937 isnt bluffing and can escape whenever it feels like it. Having 8937 as an enemy isn't something the Foundation can afford right now. That being said, I have already talked with SCP-8937 in regards to assigning him to our MTF teams. I consider this to be a 'trial' period for it. We will see how it does in containment for one week. I will speak to O-5 counsel about getting a contract drafted."

The landline phone started to ringing. Mr. Feldman didn't look happy as he answered it.

"This better be import-. Huh…are you sure…got it. I will let the director know myself. Goodbye." He hung up the phone, looked at the Site Director and said.

"Apparently the research team has found something important in regards to SCP-8937 blood samples."

"What did they find"

"They found tiny worm like creatures. We don't know fully if this is an SCP-150 case. I think it is best if we go to the lab to see this for ourselves."

It didn't take long for the group to make their way into the 'Biological and Research' area of Site-17. Usually, it would have taken quite some time to get there, but Selene could tell that everyone they passed made sure to clear the hallways as much as possible.

When they got to the room, Selene could tell just by walking in where they needed to go. It was obvious what with all the researchers crowding around a microscope, and other equipment.

"Who is the senior researcher."

The group of researchers turned around, some looked like they just got caught doing something stupid. One of them an older gentleman pushed and moved his way towards Selene group.

"That would be me ma`am. Doctor Samuel Cross at your service."

"You called us here about SCP-8937 blood correct?"

"AH! Yes. It is absolutely incredible we-"

"Is this a possible SCP-150 biological contamination breach?"

"Oh..what. No.No…we thought it was but, no it wasn't. It…"

"Dr.Cross Please explain this, we came all this way here. The Site Director, and myself are both busy individuals."

"Right yes. Well, SCP-8937 blood was noted to have multiple anomalies properties. One of them being…and I wish I was making this up, but small worms. These worms appear to both repair all damages to the cells. Including actual DNA repair. These worms are actively repair not only 8937 cells, but his DNA as well. Not only that but even when we damaged his cells, they automatically repaired themselves. His blood cells are producing ten times the amount of ATP energy as a normal human cell.. When we added other foreign bodies to the cells do you know what they did?"

"Wh-"

"IT actively bonded with it. It took the parts from the foreign object and actually used that to repair any damaged cells. My God! If we find a way to harness this…we could be looking at a cure all. A medical cure for all disease. Everything…even genetic diseases. This..we are looking at a biological miracle. And that is not including the other properties."

"Which are?"

"Well based on the test we have run his saliva, could possibly be used for amnestic. From the hmm 'cough' Thaumatologists we have our on staff. They have stated that SCP-8937 blood is radiating some kind of energy. We don't know what it is fully, but we plan on doing a full test for it."

Mr.Feldman pinched the bridge of his nose, sighed and said.

"Let me get this straight. 8937 blood is a miracle cure an-

"Possible miracle cure..oh sorry. Please continue."

"POSSIBLE miracle cure, his blood is…what magic? And his saliva has amnestic properties? What`s next he shits gold? How do you even know if his saliva has amnestic properties?"

"We have samples from SCP-939. When we compared the two together, we notice some resemblance to each other. Mainly the same enzymes that are responsible for the amnestic effect. We wanted to see if his quote 'mind control' abilities were related to his biology."

"So we have a walking Keter class SCP. That has classified knowledge of the Foundation, can quote 'leave whenever it wants to', has the ability to use magic, flesh manipulation, mind control abilities, and to top it all off his blood can repair any damages, and his saliva is a possible amnestic"

"Yes. That is about right."

Mr.Feldman wanted to say more, but stopped when the Site Director started talking.

"This only changes a few things assistant Director. We need to ensure that SCP-8937 stays loyal to the Foundation at all times. Dr.Selene I want you to begin counseling SCP-8937. Find out what his likes and dislikes are. What we can do to ensure its loyalty even without this contract. Dr.Havelock, I want you to work with Dr.Cross and his team. Find out everything you can about SCP-8937 and its biological anomalies. I must remind you Dr.Havelock, Dr.Cross that if any of these blood samples of SCP-8937 get 'misplaced' or 'Lost' you can expect an immediate termination. Is that understood."

""Yes Ma`am""
