Chapter 25 - Survival of the fittest

There were too many skulls here.

Morris had only now realized that there were too many skulls in these catacombs. There were simply not enough people that have lived in this village to fill up like this. All the skulls were clearly old as well, leaving Morris curious.

In brook village there were a total of about 1000 people that ever lived here. 600 if you count the one's who left or passed away. Alot of slaves lived here too since this place was unoccupied by the government.

Maybe there used to be another civilization on this island.

Morris stopped abruptly and closed his eyes as he begun chanting over and over again.

"The location of the Cloth-wrapped Person's Crystal..."

"The location of the Cloth-wrapped Person's Crystal..."

He repeated it about 4 more times before opening his eyes and gasping. Infront of him was a trail of constellations that led him through the darkness. This trail of constellations also illuminated the dark hallways so it made it clearer where Morris was walking. He closely followed this trail that led him to a two meter tall door with holes in it.

Morris glanced at the astrolabe in his hand and took a step forwards opening the 2 meter door. Inside the room a desk was flipped over, a chair snapped in half and a closet full of spider webs.

There was a small box lying right in the middle of the room. The trail of constellations pointed right to it so Morris approached without much fear and opened it.

The instant he opened the box the trail of constellations dispersed and slowly faded away leaving him standing there in the dark room with the lantern as the only source of light. The Crystal didn't look as strange as he expected it too, it was a small red Crystal with an eyeball inside of it. He closed the box throwing it into his bag and then leaving the room.

"The location of a desiccated mature Black-spotted Frog..."

"The location of a desiccated mature Black-spotted Frog..."

Having this astrolabe was more than useful, Morris felt that this might have been set up by the Primordial Light because, there was simply no way this could be a coincidence.

Another trail of constellations appeared before his eyes leading him.

A light appeared at the other end of the hallway, a light that was slowly approaching Morris. It wasn't a lantern but a candle in someone's hand, from this distance Morris couldn't make out who the person was. He stuffed the astrolabe into his bag and pulled out his axe swiftly.

"Who are you? If you don't tell me then I'll have to hurt you! Speak!"

The person didn't stop and just kept approaching until their face could be seen. It had the body of a woman but the head was that of a rabbit! This "woman" wore a long floral dress that complimented her 2 meter tall figure.

Morris's heart began racing as he stared at the "woman" with fear in his eyes. When she reached a certain point she stopped and hunched a little, she stared back at Morris before rushing straight at him. Her dress flapped in the wind as she ran at a very fast pace.

Morris let out a scream and ran the other direction looking back a few times. Other than the urge to piss himself he was filled with pure adrenaline. Morris turned into another hall using the "woman's" tall size against her, she had to brake before turning around.

Her head snaped towards the direction he ran.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bright flashes of light illuminated the hallway each time Morris pulled the trigger of his shotgun. One bullet struck her chest, another her stomach, the third hit her arm and the fourth and last hit her collar bone.

Morris cut her ankle off with his axe before hacking away at her torso with desperation. Sweat paired with tears rolled down his face as he hacked away again and again. She didn't made a sound, instead she reached out with her long arm splaying her fingers to reveal nails as long as 20 centimeters. Morris stumbled back but she still managed to slash his face horizontally, one at the neck, one above the chin, one above the lips, one across the nose and one just above his eyebrows. Fortunately these were shallow but still enough to bleed and leave scars.

"DIE! DIE!"

he grit his teeth and threw the axe right at her face. Morris reached for his shotgun shells and desperately loaded the gun while she was busy with axe. Unbeknownst to him, she didn't care anymore. The woman got on her two arms and one leg crawling towards Morris with an axe right in her neck.

She launched herself of the ground with a leap, she was aiming right for Morris's head.

Morris acted quickly and slid under her, when they both got on their feet he was first to respond with a shot.

Bang!

A shot to the back followed by him grabbing the axe and twisting it in an attempt to cut off her neck. Morris climbed onto her back clawing at her face with one hand and trying to cut her head off with the axe. Unsurprisingly her skin was relatively tough and at the moment Morris was stressed, scared and anxious. His entire face was bleeding and his strength seeping away. He grabbed her bunny ears and with the help of the axe tore the head away. A geyser of blood painted the ground and Morris's face red.

It was a gruesome scene, but this was between life and death. A human against a monster. Morris stood up with wobbly legs and grabbed his axe. He wiped some snot away with his sleeve coating it in blood, sweat and snot.

His vision blurred and his face burned like fire.

At the end of the darkness another candle light appeared to be slowly approaching him. Morris's body shook uncontrollably.
