Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Setting Off to Hunt Soul Beasts

Faced with Dai Mubai's question, Oscar merely smiled and said, "Well, it's not wrong to understand it that way, but I don't actually have twin martial souls."

This response left Dai Mubai confused. What does he mean 'not wrong' but also not twin martial souls? If it's not twin martial souls, how is he cultivating the sword?

Oscar didn't intend to hide anything there was no need. After all, he used the Sky Blue Spirit Jade Sword frequently; unless he stopped using it altogether, it would be impossible to keep it secret.

Besides, with Dai Mubai now part of Shrek Academy, he wasn't leaving anytime soon. Oscar didn't see him as a threat. And worst case, there was always his teacher Gai Yue backing him. Unless a Title Douluo showed up, who could harm him?

And even if one did, Title Douluos wouldn't bother with external spirit bones unlike the six core spirit bones, external bones couldn't be removed after fusion, making them less desirable. Oscar had no concerns in this regard.

Outside of Shrek, Oscar would present himself as a sword type martial soul user, so no one would covet his external spirit bone.

Seeing Dai Mubai's baffled expression, Oscar raised his left hand a sky blue jade sword materialized. Then, in his right hand, an orange sausage slowly appeared.

Seeing the "martial souls" in both hands, Dai Mubai exclaimed, "Twin martial souls!"

"But this clearly is twin martial souls, Brother Ao, how can you say it's not?"

Oscar chuckled and explained, "My martial soul is the Supreme Sausage. This sword? It's my external spirit bone."

He dismissed the sausage, keeping the jade sword in hand to show Dai Mubai.

Now even more confused, Dai Mubai frowned. An external spirit bone? Is there even such a type?

And can external spirit bones be cultivated like martial souls? That's impossible, right?

Oscar, walking ahead, calmly explained the specifics of his external spirit bone. By the end, Dai Mubai was left feeling incredulous.

Never mind Oscar's luck his talent and willpower were simply beyond reach.

A food type spirit master, yet able to cultivate into someone on par with a power type master thanks to an external spirit bone. This was a true anomaly in the world of soul masters.

Dai Mubai didn't doubt Oscar's words. Whether it was from Ma Hongjun's earlier descriptions or Vice Principal Zhao Wuji's attitude, it was clear Oscar held an irreplaceable position within Shrek.

At that moment, Dai Mubai felt more confident that joining Shrek had been the right choice. After all, if a student like Oscar studied here, wouldn't he also improve by association?

You become red by proximity to cinnabar, black by proximity to ink. Oscar and Ma Hongjun were cinnabar red, burning bright.

More importantly, if these two with such monstrous talent could become his friends or even sworn brothers then perhaps they might help him survive his elder brother's pursuit. Or at least shield him with the power behind them.

Of course, this was just a thought. Whether or not it could happen depended on how Dai Mubai interacted with them moving forward.

By the time they finished touring the academy, it was already afternoon. Oscar hadn't eaten lunch, so after showing Dai Mubai around, he took him straight to the cafeteria for a hearty meal.

Dai Mubai was once again stunned when he saw the ingredients soul beast meat?

And judging by the energy within the food, these had to be from at least thousand year soul beasts!

This particular meal was from the oceanic soul beast Flander's team had previously hunted. The beast was so massive that even Shrek Academy's small group could dine on it for half a year.

The leftovers were sealed in ice by Gai Yue. When they needed food, they simply thawed a portion.

After their meal, the day's admissions concluded. As in the original story, only Dai Mubai passed the entrance requirements.

However, admissions were scheduled for three full days, so there were still two left. But aside from Oscar, no one else knew Dai Mubai would be the only student this year.

Oscar, of course, didn't intend to stay and wait around. He had already reached level 30, and obtaining his third soul ring was the top priority.

That night, after settling Dai Mubai in, Oscar went to see Gai Yue he intended to set off the next day to acquire his third ring.

Coincidentally, Shao Xin had also reached level 70 and needed one more ring to become a Soul Sage.

With admissions underway, only Gai Yue needed to accompany them. Oscar and Shao Xin would head out together to hunt their rings.

Because Shao Xin was a food type master, their destination this time was Sunset Forest, which was closer than Star Dou Forest. Sunset Forest lay just over 100 li south of Heaven Dou City, within empire borders.

The primary reason for choosing Sunset Forest wasn't just Shao Xin it was Oscar himself.

Oscar's third ring goal was the same as in the original story: a flight type soul skill. However, his target was much clearer than Tang San's.

Instead of the mediocre Phoenix Tailed Crest Serpent, Oscar aimed for the Sharp Tailed Swift, a pure agility type soul beast known for its top speed. A colony of them resided within Sunset Forest.

If you're getting a flight soul skill, you may as well go for maximum speed. Oscar wouldn't settle for randomness his years of effort demanded precision.

Having locked in his target and destination, the next day Gai Yue took both Oscar and Shao Xin to Sunset Forest.

Flander and the others remained behind to oversee admissions. After all, Shrek only had three students now (including Dai Mubai), not enough for a full team.

But Oscar didn't concern himself with that the knew Dai Mubai would be the only student this year, and none would come in the next two either. Only in the third year would more students arrive.

By then, if all went well, the Shrek Seven Devils would finally assemble.

That was something Oscar really looked forward to. Once Tang San arrived, he'd have a chance to receive a celestial herb like in the original an opportunity to greatly increase his strength.

It wasn't that Oscar didn't want to visit the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, but currently he had no access. If he did, he believed he could subdue Dugu Bo and claim the well for himself.

He hadn't wasted the last five years his pharmacology and alchemy skills had improved steadily. Coupled with his knowledge from the original, he had even run some preliminary antidote experiments.

He couldn't guarantee success yet, but if he got the chance to treat Dugu Bo or Dugu Yan, Oscar was confident he could quickly find a cure.

The Yin Yang Well held countless rare herbs. Over the years, Oscar had collected many books on medicinal theory some containing records of celestial herbs, which would be more than enough to work with.
