Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Nanny and the Neighbor

"Bucky, I've already contacted someone about publishing for you. You just need to take the manuscript to the editor. I didn't expect you to have such a talent."

"What's so strange about that? You know Steve likes to draw comics, so what's so unusual about me liking to write stories? We even wanted to publish an illustrated novel back then."

Three days later, Bucky finished "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," the first part of the series, by typing at a speed of three hours a day, but twenty thousand words per hour, or rather, "thinking" words per hour.

Because it was expanded based on limited memory of the book and movie plot, the word count felt a bit less than the original, but it was still a complete story, and the narrative structure, plot rhythm, and so on were relatively reasonable.

This was certified by Skye, the first fan of this book in this world. Although she was by no means an authority, Bucky felt relieved that a child could understand and enjoyed listening to it.

Bucky then printed it out and asked Howard to help him contact his family's publishing house.

Not just any, but his family's. Howard, this super genius, had naturally published books himself, and he certainly wouldn't let his own works be criticized by the editors of those publishing houses. So, he simply acquired a small but formally capable publishing house.

Anyway, when he wrote books, it was with the mentality of 'read it or not.' If others didn't read the books written by this genius, it was their loss of opportunity.

Bucky also had great confidence in himself, well, in J.K. Rowling. Hearing that Howard had his own publishing house, he simply decided to print and sell the book directly. He wasn't in a hurry anyway, and would let the book slowly build its reputation.

However, Bucky didn't expect that Howard would also read his manuscript and even think it was well-written.

Thanks again to J.K. Rowling. Well, if there's a chance in the future, I'll inquire in Britain to see if this great author exists in this world. If so, having borrowed her opportunity, I should somehow compensate for the karma.

But what Bucky didn't know was that J.K. Rowling really did exist in this world, and she had the initial idea as early as 1989, but it wasn't until 1996 that the first part of the story outline was completed.

And in this world, the doppelgänger of that great author later saw that someone had already completely written out the story that was still a vague concept in her mind. She immediately suspected that magic truly existed in this world and even came here, hoping to join the creation. After Bucky, filled with guilt, recruited her, she wrote the later Harry Potter books and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and was the sole author of those works.

But those are stories for another time.

Bucky simply handed the first draft to Howard's publishing house, and then the publishing house hired a new children's story editor to help polish and correct errors, and then it could be printed directly.

Other specific matters were also handled by the publishing house.

All Bucky did was go through the story in his mind, and the computer typed it out for him. Then, all subsequent work was handled by the rich man's subordinates.

This made him experience unprecedented joy… Indeed, earning money while lying down is the most satisfying thing in the world.

After finishing the Sorcerer's Stone, Bucky planned to see the effect first, and then move on to copy "A Song of Ice and Fire."

Because Bucky inquired a bit these past two days, this world is somewhat different from his original world; there is no original author, George R.R. Martin, here.

George R.R. Martin is unlike J.K. Rowling; he has been famous for a long time, starting to write fantasy novels in the 1970s and winning numerous awards. He even won the Hugo Award, the most famous award in the science fiction community, and in the 1980s, he also entered Hollywood, directing Beauty and the Beast. His identity did not require much effort to inquire about.

The result was that no such person could be found.

This is also why Bucky copied it with a clear conscience; without George R.R. Martin, perhaps there would be no J.K. Rowling either.

And since there is no George R.R. Martin, as the most loyal fan, how could Bucky not bring such a masterpiece as "A Song of Ice and Fire" to this world?

However, that would have to be done secretly from Skye, and there's no rush. Bucky plans to devote more effort to meticulously restoring it.

"Senor, breakfast is ready. I'll go call Skye now."

"I know, Rita."

Another morning, a strange woman appeared in Bucky's home.

A plump, middle-aged Latina woman in her fifties.

After finishing the Sorcerer's Stone, Bucky also completed another matter on his mind.

That was finding a suitable nanny.

The plump woman's name was Rita, a Mexican immigrant who had legally immigrated to the United States with her husband and son. Her husband and son both had legitimate jobs, and her son was also preparing to get married.

She used to be a nurse, then became a nanny, and had just finished her last job. She had intended to rest for a while, but her son's wedding required money, and she happened to see Bucky's job advertisement, so she continued to work.

Bucky had asked Coulson to help him check these details, which is why he felt at ease entrusting Skye to her care.

Bucky was very satisfied with Rita, but Skye was a bit unaccustomed.

She was used to living with her uncle. With an extra person, especially a nanny who was taking care of her, she subconsciously felt it was a form of alienation.

But Bucky was indeed not suitable for taking care of people. Facing Skye, he couldn't put on a stern face at all, and he would spoil the little kid sooner or later.

So, after reviewing Rita's information, he made the decision directly. She had taken care of several children similar to Skye, was very patient and experienced, and would not spoil her just because the child threw a tantrum.

Fortunately, even if the little kid had some opinions, she wouldn't show them. She didn't want to get emotional with her uncle; she didn't want to do anything that might make her uncle dislike her.

And Rita's experience quickly conquered Skye's stomach with patience and delicious food. The unique female care also made the little kid quickly stop resisting her.

After breakfast, Rita went to take Skye to school. Bucky was about to continue "thinking" words, wanting to try to get the second part, "The Chamber of Secrets," out. He had only seen the movie for the second part, so this time he would have to put in more effort. Fortunately, having completed the first part, he had some experience, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

"Hello there, little sister."

"Hello, Auntie, who are you?"

"…I'm your new neighbor, little one, what's your name?"

Just then, Bucky heard Skye and a young female voice talking outside the door.

New neighbor? Bucky heard it, walked over, opened the door, and saw a tall young woman, looking a bit helpless at Skye's "sweet talk."

Skye called all young women Bucky met "Auntie." Melinda didn't mind it before, but the young woman in front of him, who looked to be in her early twenties, even younger than the rookie female patrol officer, exuding youthful energy yet possessing a cold and elegant demeanor, was clearly displeased with this address.

"…Hello, I'm Johnny Lind, may I ask your name?"

"Hello, Maria Hill, it's nice to meet you."

"…Mm-hmm."
