Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The First Pot of Gold (Part 2)

Bucky bought the computer because he wanted to earn his first pot of gold.

After coming to this world, he was entangled with HYDRA, which was an unbreakable knot.

Therefore, cooperating with Howard and striving to upgrade and become stronger were Bucky's goals, or rather, tasks that he had to complete.

But beyond the tasks, there was also life.

Bucky cherished this most bizarre and hard-won second chance.

He could change his identity and start a new life in a completely new environment.

In the past, he lived a numb and mechanical life, working long hours, gradually losing himself, because the definition of self had become work, eating, and sleeping; everything was step-by-step, everything was repetition after repetition.

Bucky absolutely did not want to experience such a life again.

He also did not want to be entangled with HYDRA for the rest of his life; a centipede dies but never falls. Even when Bucky transmigrated, the HYDRA in the show had not been completely cleared yet.

He wanted freedom, he wanted to be unrestrained, he wanted to live a wonderful life.

And here, there were full of opportunities. Things Bucky only dared to imagine before, and only saw in novels, became reality here. They were visible and tangible. As long as he strived for them, he would gain unimaginable rewards.

Opportunities were right in front of him, so how could Bucky be content with the status quo just because he had already latched onto a rich patron?

Besides, relying on Howard once or twice was fine, but taking favors makes one feel indebted. Even if Howard did not mind, Bucky did not have the nerve to ask every time.

As for earning his first pot of gold, what Bucky thought of were nothing more than the deeds of those transmigrator predecessors he had read thoroughly before: copying songs, copying novels, various literary plagiarism, and then buying various potential stocks and so on.

As for copying songs, Bucky was tone-deaf, the kind who never dared to go to karaoke. Others sang for money, Bucky sang to rob money.

So, what Bucky thought of was copying books.

Yes, Bucky bought the computer for writing.

Actually, what Bucky wanted to do more was computer games, because in his previous life, he had some interest in this area and had even made some very simple pixel games himself.

But this idea was directly dispelled after understanding the situation.

Before, in Bucky's memory, there was not much information about this era, only a vague concept of the "nineties."

But in this period of computer technology explosion, computers in the early nineties and late nineties were completely two different concepts.

It was not like the later technology, where the CPU from ten years ago was still used when Bucky transmigrated, with not much difference at all.

At this time, the computer's performance was sufficient, far exceeding the mainstream game consoles on the market, but the computer penetration rate was too low. In this era, even in the United States, computers were not something every household had, and computer games were a complete desert.

Moreover, the initial investment for making games was too large, far less convenient than copying books.

And if he copied books, Bucky did not even need to type on the keyboard. As long as he connected the computer directly with the Network Access Pod, Bucky could communicate directly with the computer through the access pod's operating system.

Whatever he thought, text would automatically appear in the computer's document, which was much more convenient than voice recognition, and would make countless people with clumsy hands envious.

What Bucky wanted to copy, the first thing he thought of, was the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, which he liked very much before he transmigrated. At that time, he even found the English version and slowly read it.

But this book was too explicit, and its true popularity only came after it was adapted into the TV show Game of Thrones, which in turn boosted the novel's sales to tens of millions.

And given Skye's enthusiasm for computers, if she saw it when he was not paying attention…

It's better to create something for all ages; the audience is wider, and children's money is the easiest to earn.

Even if he really wanted to copy "Ice and Fire," he should do it elsewhere, not at home.

For all ages, the most famous is naturally the Harry Potter series. However, Bucky had only watched the movies in this series and only read the first novel. He did not really want to read the second one because J.K. Rowling wrote it for her child, and it had a fairy tale narrative style.

Fortunately, the movies were not bad. J.K. Rowling participated in the entire filming process, and the movies basically restored the story. All Bucky had to do was expand the plot from his memory into a book.

No sooner said than done, Bucky pulled out the data cable from the base of his left palm and connected it to the computer. The monitor automatically opened a Word document, and text automatically appeared on the document: Harry Potter, Chapter One, The Boy Who Lived…

"Uncle, I finished my homework. Can I play on the computer again? Wow, Uncle, are you really not a terminator?"

Skye probably finished her homework quickly. It was dinner time, but she did not say she was hungry. Instead, she was obsessed with playing on the computer. When she ran out, she saw that her uncle was once again performing an operation that was not human-like.

Fortunately, Bucky basically did not hide anything from Skye, even telling her his real name, but Skye did not know what that meant.

And Bucky's repeated extraordinary performances and behaviors were quickly adapted to by Skye, a seven-year-old child whose worldview had not yet formed and who was most open to new things, and it became easier and easier for her to accept.

"Are you hungry? I will get you some food."

Bucky was also having a great time "writing," "writing" like a flood. Before he knew it, he had written from Harry Potter's appearance to his encounter with Hermione Granger, one of the Golden Trio, in Diagon Alley.

He looked up and saw that it was getting dark, almost past dinner time. He quickly went to get food for Skye, not bothering about the little kid playing with the computer. Anyway, he could save his progress directly in the Network Access Pod.

He did not have photographic memory; he had image memory.

After simply heating up some instant food, Bucky thought about quickly finding a nanny so that there would be someone to specifically take care of the little kid, but then his behavior at home would be restricted, and he could not be as unmasked as he was now.

He would probably have to find a secret base or something, which would also be convenient for his street activities.

"Dinner is ready."

"Oh…"

Skye, however, was staring at Bucky's document, completely engrossed.

Since it was a children's fantasy story, Bucky tried his best to recall the style of the first Harry Potter book he had read, using the simplest plain language and the easiest descriptions to write. And this time, he truly experienced J.K. Rowling's talent.

It was such an easy-to-understand narrative, without any flowery words or obscure vocabulary, yet it could depict such a wonderfully brilliant fantasy world.

And with this writing style, even Skye, who had just started first grade today and had only secretly read some books and dictionaries left by the previous children in her foster family, could stumble through and get the general meaning, and she was immediately captivated by the story.

This dispelled all of Bucky's worries. The charm of Harry Potter was universal, no matter where.
