Chapter 528 - When did this guy meet this girl?

"Not at all," Kaito said — and from Miko's question, he could tell she'd already noticed the bed he'd patched together last night. He went on, "Though it was getting close. The original bed really was too small — so I grabbed a smaller one and pushed it up against it."

As for nearly getting squeezed off the edge, Kaito wasn't about to blame Miko or Lumine for that. The bed was just too small. Fitting three people into it had always been a stretch.

"Ah, that makes sense. I was actually wondering why I didn't hear a thud last night," Miko said lightly, after hearing his explanation.

"The bed's not that high," Kaito replied. "Even if I had fallen off, I don't think it would've made much noise."

"Still would've hurt, though. But not falling off in the first place is what matters," Lumine added, sharing her own thoughts.

Either way, the important thing was that Kaito hadn't ended up on the floor last night. If he had, she'd have felt at least partly responsible.

"Honestly, I think Kaito might have put a dent in the floorboards," Miko said, giving him a teasing look now that the crisis had been averted.

She did genuinely think that, of course — he was anything but ordinary, after all.

Right... now that she thought about it...

Had Kaito ever shared a bed with Wendy, or Mei, or Kiana before?

Or rather... had they done that together?

The thought popped into her head out of nowhere, and Miko found herself genuinely wanting to ask.

But one glance at Lumine sitting right beside her, and she held her tongue.

Whatever else she was, she was still the Grand Guuji of Inazuma. She had an image to maintain.

Now, if it had been just her and Kaito, she wouldn't have needed to hold back nearly as much.

After all, she'd already done that with him — there was no reason to be coy about it anymore.

"I'm not that heavy," Kaito said in response to Miko's jab, firmly denying the accusation.

Then, as though something had just occurred to him, he continued, "By the way — were you two planning on going out to buy breakfast, or would you rather put something together here? If you want to go out, I can head out now and grab it."

Since they'd been cooking for themselves lately, he thought it was worth asking.

If it had been just him, he'd have gone out without a second thought.

He was, admittedly, a little lazy when it came to that sort of thing. Back before he'd crossed worlds, he used to skip breakfast entirely.

"Personally, I'd like to try what Liyue has to offer for breakfast. What do you think, Lumine?" Miko said, turning to look at Lumine as she spoke. She wanted to hear her take.

If Lumine wanted to make something at home, she'd pitch in and help.

"Let's go out and buy something then," Lumine said.

She didn't really mind either way, and since Miko felt that way, that was fine by her. Kaito wasn't particular about it either.

"Alright, I'll go get it."

Kaito gave a nod and headed toward the exit.

But just as he reached the courtyard gate and was about to open it, a knock came from the other side.

Knock knock knock —

Hm?

Who's here this early?

Zhongli? Or Childe?

He couldn't quite guess, given the hour. With that thought, he opened the gate.

"You're Kaito, right?" The moment he opened the door, a familiar voice greeted him.

Lady of the Night Sky?

One look at the visitor's impassive expression and the name came to him immediately.

Honestly, she was the last person he'd expected to see. Still, surprised as he was, he replied evenly, "That's me. And you are...?"

He knew exactly who she was, of course — but this was the first time he was meeting Yelan in the world of Genshin Impact. He played it as if he didn't recognize her at all.

"My name is Yelan. I work for the Liyue Ministry of Civil Affairs," she said, offering a brief introduction as she looked at the young man before her.

"The Liyue Ministry of Civil Affairs?" Kaito said, feigning puzzlement. "What business does Miss Yelan have with me?"

In truth, he already had a rough idea — he was just waiting for her to confirm it.

If his guess was right, she was here about the Mobius situation.

Though, of course, Yelan almost certainly had no knowledge of Mobius's existence yet.

"Actually..."

"Kaito, who are you talking to?" Before Yelan could finish, a girl's voice drifted out from inside.

"Someone's here for me," Kaito said, glancing back to answer Miko, then turned to Yelan. "Go ahead, Miss Yelan."

"Actually, the Tianquan — Ningguang — would like to see you. Would you be able to come with me now?" Yelan said, meeting his gaze as she stated her reason for coming.

Just then, Miko and Lumine came walking over as well.

This guy...

Since when does he know this girl?

And where are they going together?

Miko eyed the woman at the gate, a trace of displeasure crossing her thoughts.

"Is it urgent? If not, let me grab breakfast first."

"...It's actually not that urgent," Yelan replied, momentarily caught off guard by that answer.
