Darkness literally reshaped the sky, leaving even the stars clouded by darkness; the illumination of moonlight shining through my bedroom. It was a … strange night. I felt as though something was out of place.

It felt like …

I lost something in life.

My friend was staying at my house, his name was Kurayami, I call him Kura for short. We've been friends for a while now, and he had been having some problems at his residence, so he was invited to mine for a period to clear his head. We had dinner a little later than usual because of misconceptions with the chef and stuff, but it was … makeshift, to say the least. It was yummy, but I couldn't shake the feeling something was amiss.

Azazel, my older brother who we call Az, and Aika, my younger sister (the youngest in the family) were both watching a movie, the volume was blasting where me and Kura were staying for the night. My eldest brother, Atsuyo, or we call him Atsu, was on a stroll at this hour with a noble. Her name's Yume-Mi, a noble originally from a family overseas. I think he likes her.

Everything's going smoothly.

Chatter from the tv can be heard echoing to my room.

Kura and myself are playing a simple game of charades.

My parents are asleep, their soft snoring echoing throughout the corridor.

Everything is …

Perfect.

Too. Perfect.

Until. . .

A series of gunshots disturbs our peace.

It took a minute for the gunshots to actually go off, and it took us a few blows before we actually realized we were under attack.

CLICK.

CRACK.

POW!

Silence. A distant blow.

CLICK.

CRACK.

POW!

Silence, again. Another distant blow.

There were footsteps coming inside though, a bit too heavy to be Atsuyo. They made their way to around where my parents room was in the castle.

This was like a living horror movie, what was happening?

CLICK.

CRACK.

POW!

It was closer this time, it was inside our house, not outside, not on top of, but INSIDE. In the radius of my parent's room.

It was silent… again.

Is it over?

CLICK.

CRACK.

POW!

That answers my question.

That one hurt my ears.

It's silent again.

There wasn't a singular scream.

It was all… silent.

As if the world was undisturbed, as if nothing happened. As if the world genuinely stopped spinning.

The background sounds from the TV stopped, the charades cards stopped shifting in mine and Kura's hands.

The late night chatter from the townsfolk stopped.

There was no screaming, which would be expected from a shooting.

It was as if the guns silenced the world.

As quickly and as quietly as possible, Aika and Az rush into my room, all four of us looking at each-other in horror, realizing the severity collectively;

We were probably next.

Before a second more could pass, we all quickly rushed to our respective rooms with the revelation we are not safe, and could be next.

We all pretend to fall asleep. I don't know what happened to Aika and Az after they left, I don't hear gunshots. I turn to Kura, a tad bit of fear in my eyes for my older brother and younger sister.

We don't know what happened.

We don't want to know.

We'll figure it out in the morning. We know the killer's in the house. The gunshots were too close to us. It was safer to fake it 'til we make it.

We had a shooter in the castle, and most likely, two of those four gunshots belonged to our parents' heads, putting them into a permanent sleep.

Though, who did the other shots belong to? They didn't hit me, Aika, Az, or Kura…

Yume-Mi and Atsu went out, unless…

No.

I need to stop thinking.

Thinking will keep me up.

I can't risk the technical serial killer with that stupid crazed mind to kill people mid September to find me alive.

Right then, I could've sworn 一 before I actually shut my eyes, I saw an unfamiliar man glaring at me through the doorway.

I didn't dare to breathe.

I didn't dare to make any sort of sound.

I held onto Kura, scared for my life.

That could have very much been the killer.

I could've sworn we made eye contact.

This might have been the scariest night of my life.

I can't even imagine what just happened.

I cannot bare to think about who got shot this morning.

"I think I would be better off if I fell asleep."

I thought to myself.

And that's exactly what I did.

I fell asleep.

And I honestly wish I never woke back up.
