🌧️ Chapter Blurb:Â
What began as laughter and lighthearted teasing turns into a storm no one saw coming.
Ryu finds herself caught in the middle of a sudden clash — between two best friends whose unspoken emotions threaten to tear everything apart.
One pulls her hand with anger, the other with concern, and in that brief, heart-stopping moment, everything changes — friendship, loyalty, and the fragile balance they once shared.
✍️ Author's Note:
This chapter was one of the most emotionally charged ones to write.
It captures the fragile line between care and conflict — how a single moment can shift bonds forever. Ryu's confusion, Rey's protective anger, and Ravi's sudden reaction all come together to reveal the hidden cracks beneath their friendship.
As the story moves forward, remember — sometimes, silence speaks louder than any argument.
ARJUN POV:
She remained motionless, icy blue eyes lowered, her body trembling from more than just the chill. Hiding beside Mr. Joshi, she watched me silently with those same icy blue eyes. Her thick, wavy hair tumbled in a messy cascade, framing her cute face streaked with a little dust. Red marks dotted her small hands and legs, yet she remained quietly observant—a fragile mix of mischief and innocence.
HARSH JOSHI:Â Isha... Isha (Ryu)... Ryu, from now on, you are living with us.
RYU:Â Y... Yes, yes, uncle.
ARJUN POV:
Her little eyes seemed to forget how to recognize me. Her voice, so fragile, carried the weight of her suffering. The marks on her body, the fear in her eyes—it all spoke of battles no child should face. And in that instant, I felt a pang of something I couldn't name... a pull to protect her, even as her icy gaze held secrets I couldn't yet reach.
In present time:
ARJUN POV:Â
Now I when see her happy and smiling and deep sense of happiness rushed into me >> Her eyes seemed to forget all the heart aching memories that filled her heart with deep sorrow but that made her forget some memorable memories and memorable people but I knew this is best for her .
This was the day Ryu was leaving her village for next destination .
Everyone had gathered around the house, chatting, laughing, and planning their next destination. Aarav, Anika, Aryan, and Ishani looked excited as hell, while Kabir and Avi seemed like they desperately needed some peaceful sleep. Rey was talking with Aakash, and Arjun stood nearby, watching Rey and Ravi like a silent hulk, tense and ready.
RYU POV:
I was so excited for our next destination, but at the same time, I felt a pang of sadness leaving this place. It felt like I could cry at any moment, though I was trying my best to hold it in. I watched Arjun as he stood there, observing Rey and Ravi like a hulk. Maya said he really looked so weird—I laughed out loud—but deep down, I couldn't help questioning why he had told me to avoid them.
They were both my best friends. At first, they hadn't liked me and had treated me like an enemy, but now... now they were my true friends. I felt grateful for the amazing time I had spent with them.
I was still keeping my distance from Ravi, avoiding conversation, but when I saw Rey and Ravi exchanging those intense glares, something in my heart told me that something big was about to happen—something completely unexpected.
Suddenly, Kabir's mother said it was time to leave. At the same moment, my grandmother and uncle appeared, carrying a plate of tikka and some beautiful envelopes.
Ryu's uncle: "We are not letting you leave just yet. Come, take this first."
Maya's father: "This is not needed."
Ryu's uncle: "It is part of our tradition and heritage."
Everyone gathered and lined up. I could see the children smiling as they received their envelopes. Kiara and Siya quietly slipped theirs into their pockets, while others were already thinking about having a little party with the money.
I noticed Aakash standing apart, quietly, and something inside me ached. I asked my uncle for an envelope and plate and quietly walked over to him.
Ravi noticed and seemed like he wanted to help me, but his sister Siya held his hand firmly.
Aakash POV:
.She seemed so happy when Ryu did this. Seeing her care, even in such a small gesture, reminded me of my childhood. When I was little, my sister used to come running excitedly with a plate of tikka, tying a thread on my wrist with a shy smile. That memory rushed back now, filling me with warmth I hadn't realized I missed.
Ryu POV:
I felt my heart race as I held the plate and gently applied the tilak on Aakash's forehead. The warmth of the tikka, the slight brush of my hand—it all felt sacred and so delicate. His eyes softened, and for a moment, I realized how something as simple as this—just a tilak, a plate of tikka, a gesture of care—could carry so much meaning.
Ryu:Â You're our guest, aren't you?"
Aakash:Â "Ryu, it's not needed."
I tried again, softly, "If you had a little sister who gave you this money, would you still refuse?"
He paused, then said, "No."
So I gave him the envelope and quietly stepped back.
From afar, Rey and Ravi watched, visibly jealous of the moment.
Then I noticed from afar that Aarav was trying to snatch Anika's envelope.
Aarav:Â "Give it to me! You'll just spend it and lose it anyway!"
Anika:Â "Don't take it!"
They were about to start a fight, but suddenly Rey stepped in and grabbed both envelopes.
Rey:Â "Hey! Stop it, both of you. I'm keeping these. No fighting, okay?"
Rey (firmly):Â "Aarav, this isn't how you handle things. And Anika, don't let him provoke you."
Rey (smirking slightly):Â "You two need to learn to share... or at least keep your hands to yourselves!"
The children were gathered, and it was impossible not to notice the little sibling dynamics at play.
Kabir and Kiara were teasing each other, Kabir trying to grab Kiara's envelope while she held it protectively, giggling every time he made a move.
Avi and Aryan were busy comparing who got the bigger envelope, nudging each other playfully while keeping an eye on Rey, as if seeking approval.
Ishani clutched her envelope tightly, and her brother—yes, Aryan—kept trying to peek inside, but she held firm, giving him a mock glare that made everyone laugh.
Siya and Ravi were quietly observing the chaos. Siya held Ravi's hand firmly, stopping him from barging into the teasing matches around them. Even from afar, their bond was evident—they didn't need words to understand each other.
Now they are all leaving the village but gathering all the memories and hapiness .
Ryu standing on the road and seeing the house .
RYU POV:
I was excited to explore new places and meet new people, to see what the world beyond these mountains held. But leaving this place—my roots, my heritage, the land where my existence began, my hometown—was far harder than I had imagined. The days I spent here had been filled with laughter, warmth, and moments I would carry with me forever. Every corner of this village held a memory: the scent of pine in the early morning, the sound of the river rushing past, the vibrant chatter of children running freely.
Excited parents, elders, and children rushed down the winding mountain road, their voices carrying in the crisp air, while the adults warned each other, fearing someone might slip or fall. I watched them, my heart swelling with affection and nostalgia. This peace, this land, these people—they were all part of me, and I was part of them. Yet, as much as I longed for the adventures ahead, a weight settled in my chest. Leaving this place, leaving a piece of myself behind, felt almost impossible.
Ryu stood there, her eyes misty, looking at her village one last time, as if a piece of her soul had been left behind.
Rey noticed her and quietly came to stand beside her, a silent presence offering support.
Rey:Â "Already missing the place?"
Ryu:Â "Yes... it feels like my heart stayed here."
Suddenly, someone shouted for everyone to come quickly, and Rey and I moved quietly, trying not to draw attention. The bus ride that followed was surprisingly peaceful. Everyone settled into their seats, speaking only in soft whispers, if at all. I chose to sit beside Maya, enjoying the quiet companionship, while Rey decided to sit with his siblings, a gentle smile on his face as he looked after them.
As the bus rolled along the winding mountain roads, the rhythmic sound of the engine and the gentle sway of the vehicle seemed to lull everyone into a calm, tranquil state. Slowly, one by one, everyone drifted into a long, peaceful sleep. The soft hum of the bus, the faint chatter of the wind outside, and the shared sense of comfort made the journey feel almost dreamlike.
We reached the place, and everyone was so fresh at that time, full of energy and excitement. Each of us was dragging our bags behind, some heavier than we expected, while the children ran around, laughing and chasing each other, completely ignoring the weight they carried. By the time we reached Aakash's house, the weight of our bags had started to take its toll. We were all tired, our shoulders aching, hands pounding under the load, but the excitement of arriving kept us moving forward.
Then I was resting for a while, feeling relaxed after the long journey. The chatter around had started to fade when I suddenly noticed Maya quietly looking at Kabir from across the room. There was a soft, shy smile on her face, the kind of smile you give when you don't want anyone to notice.
Curious, I got up slowly and walked toward her. She didn't even realize I was standing beside her until I leaned closer and said teasingly, with a grin spreading across my face, "Smiling like a hyena, huh?"
Maya jumped slightly and turned toward me, her cheeks instantly turning pink.
Maya:Â "Ryu! Shut up!"
I couldn't help but laugh. "Wait, let me show you something," I said, pulling out my phone.
She raised an eyebrow but leaned in anyway. I opened my gallery and showed her the photo of Kabir and Avyaan sleeping side by side like two cute dogs, their faces squished against the pillows.
For a moment, Maya just stared at it—and then burst into laughter. She laughed so hard she held her stomach, tears forming in her eyes. Her laughter filled the room, making everyone nearby glance over, and I couldn't stop myself from laughing along with her.
Kabir and Avi, curious and excited to know what made the girls laugh so hard, rushed silently toward them. They tiptoed closer, trying not to make a sound, and peeked from behind to see what was so funny. To their shock, it was them—the photo of Kabir and Avyaan sleeping like two cute little dogs.
Both of them stood frozen for a second, staring in disbelief, while Ryu and Maya, completely unaware of their presence, burst out laughing again. The more they looked at the picture, the harder they laughed, clutching their stomachs and wiping tears from their eyes. Meanwhile, Kabir and Avi exchanged looks of embarrassment and fake anger, still trying to keep quiet so the girls wouldn't notice them sneaking behind.
It was one of those moments filled with chaos, laughter, and the warmth of friendship—where teasing turned into memories they'd laugh about for years.
Ryu was completely shocked when she suddenly noticed Kabir and Avi hovering over them, staring at the phone screen. Their eyes widened in surprise, and Kabir quickly asked, half laughing, "Where did you even click this photo?" while Avi looked just as stunned and embarrassed.
Ryu, still recovering from the sudden scare, tried to act calm but couldn't hide her smile. "I'm not telling you," she said firmly, clutching her phone close to her chest like it was a treasure.
That single refusal was enough to start chaos. Kabir and Avi exchanged mischievous glances, and before anyone could stop them, they both lunged forward in a playful chase. Ryu squealed and ran across the courtyard, laughing and dodging them as Maya stood nearby, laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
Everyone around burst out laughing at the sight — Kabir and Avi chasing Ryu while she tried her best to escape. Finally, at one point, they caught her, and Ryu shouted between giggles, "Leave me alone!" The whole moment turned into a wave of laughter echoing through the house — pure, carefree, and full of friendship.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Ravi appeared and without a word, grabbed my hand and pulled me toward him. The sudden action caught everyone off guard — the laughter stopped mid-air. My eyes widened in shock as I stumbled slightly, trying to regain balance.
Kabir and Avi froze, completely stunned by the sudden commotion, their jaws practically hanging open. The playful energy in the room shifted into stunned silence for a moment. And Rey — who had just taken a sip of her juice — literally spat it out in disbelief, coughing and staring wide-eyed at us.
For a second, no one said a word. The only sound was Rey trying to stop herself from laughing and failing miserably.
RYU POV:
I was completely shocked by this sudden commotion — the laughter we were all enjoying just moments ago had turned into a scene of pure disbelief. The person I had been avoiding for so long had suddenly caused all this chaos, and I couldn't even process what just happened. My heart skipped a beat as everyone around froze.
Rey literally spat her juice out in shock, coughing , while Kabir and Avyaan stood there with their mouths wide open, unable to utter a single word. Maya, on the other hand, looked utterly confused — like she was trying to figure out if this was real or just another one of our usual pranks gone wrong.
The entire room felt still for a moment, and I could only stare, my mind spinning, trying to understand what had just happened.
My mouth was also left open .
Ravi left everyone completely shocked when he suddenly said, "Leave her alone."
Kabir and Avyaan stood there, jaws wide open, unable to believe that a friend would ever say something like that.
Suddenly, Rey stormed down the steps, each stride striking like a bolt of lightning. His face seemed to carry a thousand emotions at once — shocked, confused, angry — all battling for dominance. Without hesitation, he came forward and grabbed my hand, making my heart race uncontrollably.
Rey glared at Ravi, then signaled to the others, "Go now." His voice was firm, commanding, and left no room for argument.
I found myself caught in the middle, standing between two best friends who now looked ready to fight. My mind was spinning. I couldn't believe this was happening — and when they both held my hands at the same time, my heart skipped a beat even more.
Ryu POV
I was trapped between two men who were best friends, yet the tension of this moment made my chest tighten. I felt my heart pounding as I tried to process everything, shocked that something as simple as holding my hand could feel like the center of a storm.
I quickly fled the scene .
The group slowly gathered under the shade of the old banyan tree. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dancing shadows on the ground. Everyone's laughter had quieted, replaced by a subtle tension in the air.
Maya:Â "Tension's growing between them," she murmured, her voice soft but observant. Her eyes flicked toward Ryu, noticing her shoulders stiffen slightly.
Kabir nudged Avi with a grin. "They've been best friends forever."
Avi:Â "Even before we joined. They just... understand each other, you know?"
I felt the tightness in my chest as I quietly stepped back, letting the group's conversation drift around me. My gaze wandered to the fading sunlight, painting the mountains gold. Avi followed, his presence a gentle reassurance.
Kabir shifted awkwardly, glancing at Maya. "Yeah... same," he muttered.
Maya:Â "I just hope they don't fight." Her words carried a sigh, gentle and hopeful.
As we moved away from the gathering, I felt my heartbeat slow slightly, though the heaviness of unspoken words lingered. The mountains seemed to echo the silent tension, a soft whisper among the trees, waiting for something to break the quiet.
Later, Maya stood near the courtyard, sunlight catching the folds of her Uttarakhandi dress. Kabir noticed the way the light highlighted her every movement, and a teasing smile curved his lips.
Kabir:Â "You look really pretty today."
Maya's cheeks flushed immediately, and she looked down, brushing imaginary dust off her dress. Kabir took a small step closer, a playful glint in his eyes. The teasing energy between them shifted, almost tangible, building a quiet tension filled with unspoken words.
Before the moment could grow more intimate, Ryu and Avi entered, interrupting like an unexpected gust of wind. Both pairs froze briefly, exchanging awkward smiles before quietly retreating.
Later, outside, Maya let herself breathe in the crisp mountain air. Kabir appeared behind her suddenly, hands wrapping around her to lift her gently into the swing.
Maya: laughing softly "Kabir! What are you—?"
Kabir:Â "Just making sure you enjoy the view."
Her laughter mingled with the rustling leaves, warm and carefree. The teasing continued, soft words exchanged, small smiles shared, and a quiet intimacy blossomed in the gentle swing's motion.
From her perch on the railing, Ryu leaned quietly, Avi beside her. She watched the scene unfold with a soft smile, amusement tugging at her lips.
Avi:Â "Enjoying the show?" he whispered teasingly.
Ryu:Â "Be quiet, you little monkey." Her voice was soft but firm, eyes still on Maya and Kabir.
The two laughed together, their ease and comfort stirring something deep within me. I felt a quiet warmth, observing from afar, knowing moments like these would be etched into our memories forever.
Ryu's voice faltered mid-sentence as a shadow fell over her. She turned slowly, and there he was—Rey, standing silently, his expression unreadable, his presence commanding yet calm.
Her heart skipped a beat. She tried to step back, but his hand reached out gently, stopping her. She stumbled slightly, pressing her back against the cold wall, eyes locking with his.
The sounds around them—the distant laughter of children, the whisper of the wind, the faint toll of a temple bell—seemed to fade. It was just the two of them, suspended in the quiet intensity of the moment.
RYU POV:
My chest tightened, pulse racing. The closeness, the warmth of his hand holding mine, it all felt like electricity. Words failed me; my thoughts scattered, yet I could not look away. Every breath seemed stolen, every heartbeat louder than the last.
REY POV:
Her trembling fingers in mine were small, delicate, and yet they anchored me. I wanted to convey everything without words—protection, care, and a promise that she was safe. Her eyes, wide and searching, mirrored the chaos I felt inside. For a moment, the world stopped, and it was only us, bound in silence and understanding.
We stood there, still and close, letting the unspoken speak volumes. The tension, the longing, the comfort—it all converged in that fleeting, golden moment, before reality began to creep back around us.
