The storm had passed.
But the silence it left behind was louder than ever.
Ishita Ryu Joshi stepped into Section C, the only girl in a room full of noise, as usual. But this time, something about her presence made even the most restless boys glance her way—and go quiet for a second.
She didn't look at anyone.
She didn't smile.
She walked to her seat by the window, sat down, and opened her notebook like the world didn't matter.
A paper ball landed on her desk.
She picked it up.
Unfolded it.
It read: "Princess of Section C? Lol."
She folded it again, tore it cleanly down the middle, and dropped it in the dustbin without flinching.
From the back of the class, Reyan watched with narrowed eyes.
He didn't throw anything.
Not today.
Before the room could return to chaos, the door creaked open and in walked Mr. Avinash — sharp-eyed, sleeves rolled, and clipboard in hand.
"Alright, demons," he said. "Time to behave."
The class quieted down, sort of.
Mr. Avi scanned the faces. "From this week, we're appointing class reps officially. Reyan remains Class President."
Reyan stretched casually, like it was already written in his DNA.
"But we also need a Class Monitor and a Girl President, as per the new circular."
He pointed at the only girl in the room.
"You."
Ryu looked up, startled. "Sir?"
"You're it," he said. "Class Monitor and Girl President. Double crown. Wear it."
The class broke out into protests.
"But she's the only girl, sir!"
"She doesn't even talk!"
"She's gonna act like she's queen or something—"
"She already does," Reyan muttered under his breath, not loud enough for anyone but himself to hear.
Mr. Avi clapped his hands once. Loud.
"Enough. She's disciplined, focused, and doesn't treat the class like a wrestling ring. That's all the qualification I need."
He walked to Ryu and placed the green badge on her desk.
She stared at it for a moment... then calmly pinned it to her uniform.
No smile. No sarcasm. Just silence, carried with dignity.
And then, as the murmuring continued, a calm voice came from behind her.
"Congrats, Ryu."
It was Kabir — quiet, genuine, with a steady smile.
She turned to him slightly.
"Yeah," added Avyan, from the corner. "Honestly, it was about time someone responsible got the badge."
Ryu gave both of them a short nod. Nothing dramatic — but something in her eyes softened for a second.
Among dozens of loud mouths, two voices of quiet respect had found her.
Reyan saw it too.
And hated how it made him feel.
When the bell rang, and students began pouring out, Ryu packed her things slowly. Just as she walked past Reyan's desk, he leaned back and said, coolly:
"Let's see how long that badge stays on before it gets crushed."
Ryu paused.
Then, without even looking at him, she replied:
"If it gets crushed, it won't be under your shoe."
And she walked away.
Reyan smirked.
He didn't know whether he was annoyed...
Or impressed.
