Chapter 3 - First Death

Sonny wakes up, his neck feeling sore. Sonny sees his father sitting by his side with a cold face.

"Father!"

Sonny couldn't hold back his emotions, remembering everything that happened. Watching his mother die took a big blow on his mind.

His father looked at him with sorrow and pulled him into his arms, warm and comfortable.

"My boy, remember never to take off this bracelet no matter what."

Sonny was filled with confusion, and he looked down. A red bracelet with beads around his wrist, and he asked, "Why? What's so special about this bracelet?"

His father smiled at him. "This bracelet will save your life. It will hide your powers, making you look human."

His father's eyes turned cold when he looked at the door. He gets up and grabs him by the waist and pushes him inside the closet.

The clothes covered him like a blanket, and my father smiled, warm and loving.

He closed the closet door.

Sonny's heart raced; fear entered his heart. He wanted to cry and scream, but something tells him that he needs to be quiet. Very quiet.

He carefully pushed the door open with his breath quiet. He watched his father standing very tall like a mighty mountain.

However, his eyes widen when he sees his father holding his waist, his side bleeding very badly.

Sonny felt his heart drop. He can't lose his father! He can't!

An old man in a white robe entered the room with a long white sword. The old man stared coldly at his father. "Demon, it's time for you to die."

His father revealed a sinister smile. "Hmm. We will have to see."

The room was filled with tension; both of them jumped toward each other with the intent to kill!

The old man slashed his father's arms, and his father hissed, moved to the side, and then slashed the old man's chest. The white robe was turning red with blood and was torn.

The old man let out a sharp roar when the demon king grinned cruelly and stuck the sword into his left eye.

Sonny was shocked to see his father's viciousness. He knew that people feared his father because he's a demon king, but he never showed that side in front of him.

He has always been stern but kind.

Sonny felt his heart pounding when the old man glared hatefully, "You'll pay for that!"

The old man jumped, and his empty left eye was eerie, like a man set on revenge.

The old man grinned viciously and chanted some words, words that Sonny didn't understand. A dark shadow emerged from the shadow, insidious and evil.

The shadow had no form nor any face; it stood behind the old man, and the old man stared at the demon king, who pursed his lips with a frown. "What's this?"

The old man replied, "A phantom born from souls, and it can consume anything or anyone in its path. Leaving nothing behind."

The old man had a sinister look, a gaze full of hate toward the demon king.

The demon king stared at the phantom shadow, his red eyes narrowing sharply. "You are a hypocrite, old man, for you summoned dark powers beyond your understanding."

The old man didn't listen to what else the demon king had to say, and he spoke, "Get him."

The phantom moved like lightning and entered the demon king's mouth, and the demon king coughed out blood, and he fell to the ground.

The sword in his hands clang with a bang, and the demon king's face twisted savagely; pain twisted his insides unlike anything he had experienced.

He needs to kill this old man to protect his son! No matter what! He released all his strength with his demonic powers to throw the sword toward the old man!

The old man was struck by the sword, and he fell to the ground.

The demon king finally let out a smile before his eyes closed. His chest stopped moving.

Sonny carefully climbed out of the closet on his trembling legs, heading straight toward his father.

Sonny looked at his father's bloody smile, and tears came out of his eyes. He knew that he was alone, truly alone in this world. He lost his mother and father in the same night.

Sonny wept over his father's body, "Father! Please don't leave me alone!"

The servant who was hidden in the closet with the boy came out. He watched the demon king's son weeping over his father's corpse.

Seeing all the blood and gruesome scene sent a shudder down his spine. He wanted to leave and get out of here. But he was forced to be loyal, even if the demon king is dead.

The servant carefully walked to the boy and tapped his shoulders. "Hey. Demon boy, we need to leave, or they'll find us."

Sonny turned to the servant. "What? I can't leave my father here."

The servant pursed his lips. "Your father sacrificed his life to save you. Staying here means death. Do you understand that?"

Sonny knew he was telling the truth. No matter how painful it is, he needs to live for his parents.

Sonny wiped his tears and nodded, "A—Alright. Let's go."

The servant smiled with relief. They walked down the hall, filled with astonishment. Bodies everywhere, blood and death, people with wounds, blood, or heads cut off.

Sonny couldn't hold it in anymore and vomited on the spot.

Sonny recognized some of these people; they were his father's people who stayed in the sect.

Sonny wiped his mouth and said, "Come on."

The servant nodded with a grim expression.

They walked past almost all the dead bodies.

Once they reached outside, they walked toward the forest. Sonny had nothing on him—no clothes, no food, or anything.

But that wasn't on his mind. He was only eight years old. He lost everything in one night. His home. His parents. His closest people he loved.

Sonny and the servant walked deeper into the forest, carefully not to step over branches, mud spots, or poisonous plants.

Sonny remembers his father would take him into the forest and teach him about different things, about plants, about how they're useful, and about how one insignificant plant can save or harm someone, or save your life.

Sonny couldn't stop the tears coming from his eyes; his heart hurt so badly that he wanted to cry and drop everything and go back, but he knew it was useless.

The two people weren't aware that they weren't alone; there was someone else watching them with scrutinizing gazes.

When Sonny and the servant took another step, a sound echoed across the forest, and Sonny noticed something was wrong.

He lifted his head, many people coming into his vision, people dressed in black robes with swords in their hands. They came to surround them like capturing prey.

Sonny felt his heart pick up pace; a man who looked the largest and had the longest scar across his face spoke with a rough voice.

Sonny and the servant were trapped with no weapons to protect themselves, and Sonny just realized that. Lastly, he remembers his father sealed his powers.

Sonny picked up some of the words: "Come with us, and don't think about making any movements, or we'll kill you."

Sonny noticed the man was smiling crudely, and the group of men used their swords to push us to keep moving. Sonny turned to look at the servant, who had a panic-stricken expression on his face, his shoulders hunched.

Sonny didn't say a word; he didn't know what to say, and he was truly exhausted in mind and body.

They walked for hours, with weapons pointed at them, until they stopped at some point. Sonny could feel his feet aching inside his shoes, and sweat and dirt forming on his clothes.

The man with the scar spoke, "Hey, can you cook?"

Sonny turned to the servant, but that seemed to upset the man, who growled at them, "Hey, don't look at him; I'm speaking to you!"

Sonny turned to the man and replied cautiously, "I can cook a little bit."

The man narrowed his big eyes. "Hmm. What does that mean? Don't tell me you can't cook."

Sonny said nothing.

The man walked toward Sonny and pushed him. "Go and get something to cook for us."

The man's eyes turned vicious. "Know this—if you run away, we'll know, and you'll regret having that idea in the first place."

He said with a chilling smile.

Sonny felt a chill in his heart, and he nodded his head. All he can think about is surviving: "Alright, I won't run away, but what am I supposed to use to get something?"

The man narrowed his eyes. "What? You don't have a knife with you? What idiot doesn't bring a knife with them?"

The man said in a mocking voice, and he threw a small knife toward Sonny, and Sonny couldn't catch it with his hands, and blood trickled down his hands from being cut.

Sonny hissed as he grabbed the knife, and he turned around and walked deep into the dark forest.
