Chapter 2 - Chapter: Awakening

Opening his eyes, Owen saw the familiar ceiling. He was lying on the soft bed in his own bedroom.

"Ah! Master, you're awake! Please wait a moment, I'll go call Lain Chief Steward right away."

A middle-aged maid carrying a wooden basin entered and happened to see Owen awake. She quickly put the wooden basin aside and excused herself to inform the castle's steward.

"That…"

The maid left too quickly. Owen had just sat up and raised his hand, but didn't have time to call her back.

"Never mind."

Lowering his hand, Owen shifted his gaze to the upper left corner of his vision, where there was indeed a red halo.

Wenster in the dream had said that the silver ball, which was Dimension Three, had already bound itself to him, and he could treat it as a System. Although Owen didn't know what a System was, he knew this thing could connect with Wenster.

Because Wenster had taught him, Owen boldly raised his left hand and tapped the red halo.

A semi-transparent interface, visible only to him, immediately unfolded before him. It had only one icon—two green arrows connected head-to-tail forming a circle.

This was the transfer function, capable of transferring things from another world, but it had complex usage restrictions.

For example, not much could be transferred at once; if too much, the channel connecting the two worlds would be interrupted; there would be a cooldown period after each transfer, and he could only continue transferring once the channel stabilized, and so on.

This was the only function he could use by himself. Wenster said he hadn't expected the third experiment to succeed because it had failed twice before, so he hadn't held much hope. Therefore, the System's functions were very rudimentary, and they would be gradually improved in the future.

However, for Owen, this function was already a godsend. Wenster promised to provide seeds suitable for planting in Border Garrison Town. He was full of anticipation for this; it was an opportunity to change Border Garrison Town.

"It seems like I tap here to close it."

Owen clicked the 'X' in the upper right corner, closing the main interface.

Ding!

At this moment, a prompt window popped up at the bottom of his vision. It displayed a section of otherworldly text Owen didn't recognize, with two icons, one red and one green, below it.

It didn't matter that he couldn't read the text; Owen knew Wenster was trying to contact him.

"I remember green means agree, and red means reject."

Recalling the contents of his dream, Owen reached out and tapped the green icon to connect with Wenster. After connecting, the prompt window disappeared, and a red icon remained in the lower right corner of his vision, allowing him to disconnect.

"Oh, this is your room? Not bad."

Wenster's voice rang in his mind. Owen knew the other party was observing this world through his eyes.

"Is that so? The Aisen Family was enfeoffed to a remote territory, and its financial income is not much, so there isn't much money to decorate the castle."

"You can communicate with me directly in your mind; there's no need to speak aloud, lest others discover something unusual," Wenster reminded him.

"Alright, I'll try my best to get used to this kind of communication."

This method of mental conversation was still very new to Owen and would take time to adapt to.

"Hey! Someone's coming."

Owen's gaze turned to the doorway, only to see an old man with white hair, dressed in a steward's uniform, hurrying in, followed by the maid who had just left.

This old man named Lain had a face full of worry and was very concerned about Owen's condition.

"My Master, you're finally awake! Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Does your head hurt? What about your body?"

As he spoke, he couldn't help but shed tears, completely disregarding his image.

"I was so worried about you, Master. If something had happened to you too, I truly wouldn't be able to face your father, and I would be even more ashamed to face the Aisen Family who showed me such kindness!"

Lain was already an old man, yet he was crying like this, which made Owen's heart ache.

"You made me worry, Lain. I'm fine, completely comfortable. If you don't believe me, look."

After speaking, Owen nimbly got out of bed and moved his limbs, indicating that he was perfectly fine.

"It's good that you're fine, it's good that you're fine," Lain said, wiping away his tears.

"Oh dear! Look at the good I've done, I'm truly sorry." Wenster couldn't help but blame himself.

"You should just shut up."

Owen and Wenster had a long conversation in the dream, and now they had become friends. This kind of friendly banter would not harm their relationship.

"Oh, right."

Owen suddenly remembered something he needed to confirm and asked Lain, "How long was I asleep?"

"Actually, not long, just half a day. The unconsciousness happened yesterday afternoon," Lain replied.

So that was it. Owen felt relieved now.

"I told you that the perceived time in the dream is different from reality, but you were still anxious to leave the dream. You just don't believe me, do you?"

Wenster seemed to have quite a bit of resentment towards Owen's actions.

"Sorry, I had to confirm it myself, otherwise I wouldn't be at ease. Next time, I'll chat with you to my heart's content."

"That's a promise! I still have so many questions to ask you."

In the dream, Owen and Wenster had chatted for an exceptionally long time.

When the existence of magic in this world was mentioned, Wenster showed extreme interest, saying he wanted to study magic and hoped Owen could provide some help.

Owen agreed, and both sides agreed to provide each other with what they wanted.

Additionally, Owen was also very interested in the magic-less world Wenster described, especially its historical progression.

During the process of understanding, Owen encountered many advanced ideas. For example, the feudal aristocratic System would eventually become an obstacle to social development.

This was a very interesting point of view, and as a noble himself, he actually strongly agreed with it.

Suddenly remembering someone, Lain voluntarily spoke, "Master, there is one more thing I need to inform you of."

"Tell me."

"Since the accident occurred in the experimental field you hired people to cultivate, the farmer responsible for the trial planting is highly suspected, so your Chief Knight has locked this person in the dungeon and placed him under strict guard."

Oh dear! It was that unlucky farmer.

Owen felt a bit sorry for him, as he had absolutely no connection to the incident. Fortunately, he hadn't been unconscious for too long, otherwise, he couldn't even imagine how the Chief Knight would have interrogated this farmer.

"Lain, that farmer is completely innocent. Go release him, and then take him to Clive to get 20 silver coins for him." Owen paused, then added, "Give him 5 more silver coins as compensation."

"As you command, Master." Lain placed his hand over his chest and accepted the order.

After Lain excused himself, Owen quickly washed up and then went to the dining room for breakfast. Since he hadn't eaten dinner last night, he was quite hungry.

Breakfast consisted of buttered bread, roasted sausages, vegetable salad, and dried meat soup.

He usually didn't find these things particularly tasty, but with his stomach rumbling today, Owen found the food exceptionally delicious and couldn't help but eat too much.

It was just that while he was eating, Wenster kept chattering non-stop in his mind, making Owen feel very noisy and annoyed.

Just after breakfast, Mapel rushed to the castle, presumably having heard the news of Owen's awakening.

Upon seeing Owen, she immediately knelt on one knee, blaming herself for not fulfilling her duty as a knight, allowing her liege to be harmed, and requested Owen to punish her.

Owen had no intention of punishing Mapel. The other party was from another world, and the silver ball was also an otherworldly product he completely didn't understand, so it was naturally impossible to guard against.

However, Mapel was exceptionally stubborn and insisted that Owen punish her.

As a childhood playmate, Owen knew Mapel's temper very well, so he had no choice but to punish her by making her complete double the training today, which finally made her feel a little better.
