Gidaon City is the only large city near Gidaon Canyon and is located in the territory of the neutral kingdom, Scandinavia. The Scandinavia Kingdom treats both Coordinators and Naturals equally, neither looking down on one side nor flattering the other. Many other neutral nations share this stance, with the most famous being Orb, known as the "Lion of the Equator."
Although Orb is a nation of islands composed of numerous large and small volcanic islands and is very poor in resources, it possesses a high level of industrial technology and scientific power. Its semi-governmental military industrial enterprise, Morgenroete, Inc., also has products that are well-loved in the international market. Thus, Orb has a strong self-development capability in military technology, in no way inferior to ZAFT or the Earth Alliance Forces. More importantly, Orb's leaders are very wise. A powerful nation needs three factors: its people, its legal system, and wise leaders. Orb, precisely because it has a very capable leader, is highly regarded in terms of international status, even as a neutral nation.
But I'm getting ahead of myself; these are matters to be explained later.
Mikazuki and Lacus traveled for over an hour by car before finally arriving at Gidaon City. It was a very prosperous city, and the vast majority of people in this city were Naturals. Although the Scandinavia Kingdom was a neutral nation and didn't discriminate against anyone, it was still a Natural-dominated country. So, while Coordinators were present in this city, they were not numerous. To be precise, the Coordinators in this city were all peace-loving. Of course, regardless of whether they were Coordinators or Naturals, there was no shortage of people with ulterior motives. However, those with ulterior motives, whether Coordinators or Naturals in this city, would not cause trouble recklessly. This was a rule, an unwritten rule. Not everyone longed for war. In this era where war could erupt at any moment, a peaceful and prosperous land was a rare and precious thing.
Mikazuki followed Lacus's convoy to an independent villa courtyard. This was the stronghold arranged by Lacus's people. Lacus smiled at Mikazuki, who was looking around. "Mikazuki, I've already had your identity arranged. It will take a few days to complete the formalities, so please stay here for these waiting days. How does that sound?"
"Ah? Ah, thank you."
"Don't be so polite. If anyone should be saying thank you, it's me. After all, you saved us twice. Let's go in and rest. You must be very tired, aren't you?"
Mikazuki scratched his face with his index finger, replying nonchalantly, "I'm alright." His answer wasn't an exaggeration. Dealing with those four so-called Red Coat elites was barely a warm-up for him, so fatigue simply didn't exist. Back at CGS on Mars, at the age of eleven, he had once moved an entire day's worth of supplies, without any help from adults or companions. He had single-handedly moved two large truckloads of supply boxes; that was tiring. What was this compared to that? His extraordinary stamina and perseverance had been honed at that time, or even earlier, something a pampered young lady like Lacus, who had lived a privileged life and never endured hardship, couldn't possibly comprehend. Imagination wasn't the same as personal experience. Even if Lacus had seen the lives of people in the slums of this world, without having personally experienced the feeling of not knowing where your next meal would come from, no matter how eloquent her words, they would be meaningless.
Lacus herself might have understood this point, which was why she wanted to learn more about Mikazuki and his Tekkadan. Upon entering the villa, Hilda's two subordinates went with others to arrange security, while Hilda herself stayed by Lacus's side, never leaving her. Lacus personally poured Mikazuki a cup of hot water and smiled. "Mikazuki, you truly are amazing, to defeat the ZAFT military elites so easily."
Mikazuki took the water cup with both hands. "Elites?"
Hilda nodded. "Yes, if I'm not mistaken, one of those four GINN units was a High Maneuver GINN, piloted by an ace from ZAFT's Red Coat elite unit. So that was definitely a Red Coat squad."
"Is that so? I thought they were a bit weak," Mikazuki said before nonchalantly drinking his water, causing Lacus and Hilda's eyes to twitch.
Weak? Those were Red Coats! Not ordinary Mobile Suit pilots. Yet, in this young man's mouth, they were called weak. Well, he did easily defeat the "elites" they spoke of, so there was nothing wrong with him calling them weak.
"Mikazuki, is the Alaya-Vijnana System on your body really that powerful?"
Mikazuki's hand holding the water cup stiffened, and he stopped pretending to drink. "Didn't Orga already explain? The success rate for this system's implantation surgery is as low as twenty percent, and... it's not like implanting the Alaya-Vijnana System automatically makes one super strong."
"Then what exactly..."
"The Alaya-Vijnana System merely allows us, a bunch of ignorant guys, to more easily receive information transmitted by Mobile Suits. In our world, this surgery is seen as something utterly disgusting by the powerful, injecting certain things into the human body..."
"..."
Lacus and Hilda listened attentively to Mikazuki's narration. Their brows furrowed when they heard the latter part of his explanation. Mikazuki continued, "However, children like us cannot survive without undergoing this surgery. Being uneducated and knowing nothing means being unable to work. Those adults won't hire such useless people. So, in order to survive and find work that allows us to live, we can only accept the Alaya-Vijnana System and do some unspeakable jobs."
